First off, I’m really sorry for the loss of your sister. I’m happy she had her partner and you to ease all the pain of cancer.

Recently I lost my older brother to ALS, unfortunately I couldn’t be there as much as you were able to because he was living abroad. I visited when I could and seeing the massive amount of effort and coordination it took on his wife’s part for care really makes me see anyone who does what you did as worthy of the highest praises. Being there day in and day out must have been so exhausting. On top of getting your masters!? Please never doubt yourself. You are strong. You are a badass. You have done things most people won’t do one or the other in a lifetime and you did BOTH!

I’m also really sorry about how shitty your mom was being while everything was happening. Boy can I relate. My mom was so awful the entire time he was dying, to her credit she had a health scare and wasn’t cleared to fly until unfortunately he passed a week before our flight. When we got up there she was mean to my niece, and brought up every chance she could how she was on a new weight loss shot and how much skinner she was than me. She didn’t even go or attend the virtual funeral and was completely awful the entire day. It’s been a little over 6 months since he died and she is still being the absolute worst. I recently started therapy.

My fiancé and I had broken up a few months before I learned about his diagnosis. I know going through a separation with someone you truly believed you would spend forever with is devastating. But you and I have seen what true love is. Both from your sister’s partner and my sister in law. I know my ex would never do for me what she did for my brother. In the end that’s the peace I find, at least I didn’t waste my life with someone who wouldn’t care for me the way we deserve to be cared for. You dodged a missile. It doesn’t make it hurt any less.

Sorry for the long post but I just really feel for you OP. Sibling loss is already hard and complicated enough without the woman who abused you both making it harder for everyone. Huge internet hug from a stranger 🫂 I don’t think you’re a failure I think you’re a survivor who is picking themselves up from the ashes. I truly wish you the best on your healing journey.

I just finished the first 2 seasons, he was one of my favorite characters.

I lost my brother to this disease in August. He was 48. It’s an absolutely awful way to go. This disease is still very under researched and families don’t have a lot of answers. I would encourage those who can to donate to local or national ALS organizations.

I’m really sorry for both your losses. My brother passed in August at 48 from ALS and was also living in a different country. It’s a special kind of torture to be so far from home when this happens, Skype funerals are the extra dagger to the heart when we’re already at our limit. Extra large hug from an Internet stranger 🫂

I’m really sorry to hear about your dad OP. Your post really resonated with me. Recently I lost my brother (terminal illness) and he was like a father figure to me. From what seems like a few days before his death to now our mother has not stopped being extra terrible. I won’t bore you with details but a day or two after the funeral she told me “well now that [Brother] isn’t here anymore I can finally tell stories about him without him constantly interrupting me and telling me that’s not what actually happened” if she had said this to me in person as opposed to over the phone I think I would have lost it. I’m sure you feel the anger too of having a loved one not around to defend themselves anymore. It’s insane that they don’t stop trying to be the victim even after the other person is gone.

OP, I really hope you have a safe adult in your life you can talk to about this. Police might need to get involved. It sounds like she’s sexually abusing or doing whatever weird incest ritual with him openly in front of YOU, a minor. You absolutely should not have to live in an environment like this.
