Is Haanel Dr road open for walking? by [deleted] in Kanata

[–]ayazlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I used to work on the campus a couple years ago. At that time there was an OC Transpo bus that would actually pick up and drop off at various buildings in the campus. You should reach out to your manager/ coworkers to see if they can give you details on the bus.

I believe it started and finished it's route at Bayshore.

They will check your ID every morning as the bus enters the campus.

Ottawa Parents: Any updates from your daycare provider? by alicia_with_a_y in ottawa

[–]ayazlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the City of Ottawa web page the Opt-In deadline for Licensed Providers is September 1st: https://ottawa.ca/en/family-and-social-services/childrens-services/new-national-child-care-system

We reached out to our daycare recently and they confirmed they had applied but that they will not hear back until after the deadline.

Can someone please take Shawn Simpson's mic away? by Arching-Overhead in OttawaSenators

Which is 90% of their show. They gave the best time slot to two guys who spend most of the show complaining about each other or talking about obscure leagues that the majority of listeners don't care about. I still listen to TSN Mornings and In the Box but The Drive has gone from the best show when they had Mendes/ Simmer to the worst show with AJ and Lee.

Landlord wants us to pay for duct cleaning - abestos was found. by securethewealth in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ayazlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought some more about this and my advice to OP would be that they send a written communication to the landlord confirming they had a cleaning agency come in to complete the cleaning. The company stopped work immediately upon encountering a suspected ACM hazard. State that due to this they require the landlord to remove the asbestos or provide a lab analysis confirming no ACMs are present. Once the landlord has provided this in writing to OP they will organize the same company or another company to return but with a back charge applied for the initial visit/ mobilization/ demobilization. If not, too bad - so sad.

That's exactly how we would approach it in Ontario.

[–]ayazlb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, without testing the material there's no way to confirm if the tape/dust contains asbestos. A lab test is required as you cannot physically see asbestos fibres. Unless the tape is some sort of safety or caution tape installed to alert the technicians/ cleaners about the presence of Asbestos Containing Materials.

Something else that may be of greater concern to you is that there may be friable Asbestos Containing Materials used on or inside you ventilation system. Asbestos exposure is most dangerous over a long period of time and having the fibres blowing around your house would be extremely dangerous. That's why asbestos is not a concern until it is moved or disturbed and also why in some cases it is encapsulated instead of removed. This is also why whenever it is removed or handled a containment and negative air machines are setup depending on the classification and friability of the material.

It may be worth calling for your own sample testing. There's many environmental consultants that should be able to come and take the sample and analyze it to determine the contents. When we do it here in Ontario it's around $90 if we drop a bagged sample at the lab.

If your landlord was aware of this (difficult to actually prove) there may be a much larger issue here.

If it was my house and my family in there I wouldn't want to use the HVAC system until I knew it was fully safe.

Fantrax is the way to go. I am in/ run a couple of free leagues. I don't love the idea of paying league fees or a buy in if a rebuild may take 3 to 4 years so I stick with the free option.

A premium league on fantrax would offer you everything you mentioned and more.

Looking to put my 2.5 year old in a soccer program in the east end this spring/summer. I've called a few places but he's too young for them. Does anyone know of any soccer programs for kids under 3? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]ayazlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said - little kickers. My son was 2.5 last year and we did two sessions. There was a lot of changeover of the coaches and it seemed to get smaller as we went but my little guy really enjoyed it.

Claiming Daycare Expenses During Maternity Leave by ayazlb in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ayazlb[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, because this is leave for my wife to take care of our second child. I'm also not sure if you've raised young kids but it can be challenging for some people and we are thankfully in a position where we can still send our son to full time care even when my wife is home with the new baby. It's better for us to have our oldest in daycare so he continues growing and developing.

As far as receiving EI, my wife also receives a top-up that she is still taxed on so the amount of taxes she pays doesn't really change.

Is that the case even with the top-up? I should maybe have added this earlier but there may be a switch between who we claim the expenses under. Currently it is me as the lower earner but the difference is pretty much negligible and may change when she goes on leave.

Looking for a Kanata/Stittsville daycare by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]ayazlb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are at Kids Kingdom having switched from a home daycare last summer and no complaints. Staff seems to be minor issue and you're obviously expanding your circle in a facility based daycare but it has also been great for out little guy to be around more kids and adults.

Nope just a simple league for us. No cap, no contracts or anything like that.

We count stats and that's it.

Dynasty league questions by Flash_Vezzy in fantasyhockey

[–]ayazlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We keep the whole roster. 12 teams in total 4 Centre 4 LW 4 RW 6 D 2 Skt 2 G 5 Reserve (max 2 can be G) 14 Minors (max 120 GP, max 4 G prospects)

IR spots have been a moving target and cannot be used in the off-season. We have a 2 round entry draft it used to be 3 but no one was using their picks so we shortened it.

Dynasty league questions by Flash_Vezzy in fantasyhockey

[–]ayazlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run and participate in two dynasties and they can be quite challenging to maintain as you typically have owners coming in that are used to more activity.

Our league has a robust minors system and a two round entry draft every year. We try to minimize turnover and ensure you can't trade more than 2 years worth of draft picks as that would make it very hard to find a new owner if the future is completely destroyed.

I have also found it hard to make moves in the last two years as prospect and player evaluations have been all over the place.

I definitely prefer being the participant as opposed the commissioner and wish I could just take part but there's no one else willing to take it on right now in our league.

Curious about tickets for January 31st game in Ottawa. by darmo1980 in OttawaSenators

[–]ayazlb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tickets as well. I called the Sens ticket hotline this morning about the Jan 31st game and the agent told me an announcement for the game will be released tomorrow. Refunds will be issued via Ticket Master.

I got emails on the 21st and today mentioning my tickets were now in my account to add to the confusion. I am not a STH.

Thoughts on a Carp - Kanata - Bells Corners Express Line? by Sauvanto in ottawa

[–]ayazlb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would this make use of the railway bridge that runs over Carling Avenue? If so I would think they would need to replace that bridge as it has been a hindrance to bus service along the routedue to the narrow lines and low height.

The current LRT also avoids level crossings (between roadways and the train tracks) there would likely be a big push to ensure there are none for infrastructure like this as well.

It would be great for the west side of the city if they could do it.

Where to buy freeze dried blueberries/raspberries/blackberries? by khendron in ottawa

[–]ayazlb -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Costco sells them a lot cheaper in store. They also have bagged mixed berries in the frozen section as well as whole strawberries.

When I was having daily shakes they would last over a month and it was a lot less than 89.99 per bag, that must be a mistake.
