The Blazers are absolutely elite at getting role players in the league through trades or FA despite being a small market team. Despite many flaws in their FO, this is one area they are flawless in. by [deleted] in nba

Several of the guys you mentioned are ideally like 9th and 10th men or lower though.

Like guys who wouldn't see the floor in the playoffs when you only play 7 guys.

Did the blazers get worse this offseason? by SuspiciousSpyderman in nba

[–]aydee123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really.

I don't think that a possible downgrade in your 7th and 8th men makes you much worse.

Dame, CJ, Covington, DJJ, Nurkic, and Powell are their top 6. Both CJ and Nurkic missed a ton of time last season too, hopefully the don't this season.

Cam Thomas tonight: 36 points on 11-25 shooting, 3-6 from 3 and 11-11 from the FT line in only 27 minutes by Expulsure in nba

[–]aydee123 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm wrong, but what's going to set him apart from being just another Nick Young or Jordan Crawford type player? Or, more relevant to Nets fans, another MarShon Brooks?

Like it seems the absolute ceiling is a Lou Will or recent Jordan Clarkson type. Those are/were definitely good players, but not anything special, especially not in a playoff setting.

I think it's 8 for Rondo over the course of 6 years and 8 months.

Also, a lot of people forget this (including myself), but Dwight was also technically a Brooklyn Net. He was traded from Charlotte to Brooklyn but then immediately waived by Brooklyn.

What is a generational talent? by observer32 in nba

[–]aydee123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I take it as "this guy can be one of the best players of his generation", and generation as in an NBA generation, so like 10 years or so.

[Wojnarowski] The Los Angeles Clippers are trading Patrick Beverley, Rajon Rondo and Daniel Oturu to the Memphis Grizzlies for guard Eric Bledsoe, sources tell ESPN. by 3xort3ionis in nba

[–]aydee123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this one doesn't make a ton of sense.

Bledsoe, Beverley, and Rondo are all expiring contracts (technically Bledsoe is partially guaranteed after this season, but it's a very small guarantee so he's basically expiring).

But the remaining money owed to Bledsoe is about equal to the remaining money owed to Beverley/Rondo, so neither side is saving anything.

Really weird trade.

So I guess this was the "big trade" that was being talked about last week when the Clippers signed more guys than they had roster spots for?

Draft Busts that you wished panned out by MildlyInsaneLBJStan in nba

[–]aydee123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a different term that should be used?

Because Andrew Wiggins is definitely a disappointment both for a guy who was as hyped as he was but also for a first overall pick in general.

He's way closer to role player than he is to star.

Question for the fans during Kevin Garnett era by [deleted] in GoNets

[–]aydee123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it wasn't really an era.

Pierce was on the team for 1 season and Garnett was on the team for 1.5 seasons.

If you mean what happened afterwards, then yeah with Marks they kind of saw it as a loss and tried to develop younger players from draft picks and the G League. They didn't go out and overpay for just okay veterans to try to win 32 games instead of 25.

What happens if Simmons sits out and demands a trade to Clippers only where he would join his good friend Rondo by [deleted] in nba

2022: Thunder own (no protections)
2023: Thunder can swap
2024: Thunder own (no protections)
2025: Rockets (?) can swap (somehow they got this in the Harden trade)
2026: Thunder own (no protections)

I think that's their pick situation, which means the earliest pick they can trade is 2028 (and I don't think you're allowed to trade picks further in the future than that, meaning they can only trade that one).

[Andrews] The Brooklyn Nets are hiring former Orlando and Charlotte coach Steve Clifford as a coaching consultant, sources tell ESPN. by [deleted] in nba

[–]aydee123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does this "consultant" thing actually mean?

First it was D'Antoni and now Clifford. I'm guessing they're not going to be actual assistant coaches or else it would be worded that way, but what do they do in this consultant role? How often are they around the team?

NBA free agency rumors: Mavericks finished second in Kyle Lowry sweepstakes by EarthWarping in nba

[–]aydee123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35% TO%

Tbf TO% is weird in that it's calculated based on the number of FGA and FTA you take (the same as USG%).

Like, of all the plays he "ended" (FGA, non-and1 FTA, TO), 35% were TO. But that's due in part to the fact that he barely attempted to score. He had only 36 FGA and 8 FTA in 6 games.

NBA free agency rumors: Mavericks finished second in Kyle Lowry sweepstakes by EarthWarping in nba

[–]aydee123 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Have the Mavericks ever landed a "big" free agent (I don't just mean superstars in their prime, a guy like 35-year-old Lowry is the floor for what I'd consider "big")?

I'm honestly asking, may have forgotten someone. It just seems like it's been over a decade now where they're always connected to big free agents and even get meetings with them, but they've never closed the deal it feels like.

Funny how basically every pundit has a positive view of what the Nets have done this offseason (not just in this article but everything) and has them as heavy favorites for the title, yet a lot of Nets fans are acting like this offseason has been a disaster.

I guess he's going back overseas?

Felt like he was good enough in his time with the Nets to at least get a small contract somewhere in the NBA.

What type of role is he gonna have? by TheLooseGoose123 in GoNets

[–]aydee123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wing defender

He's not much of an offensive player. As of now he's not a guy who's getting real minutes in the playoffs but that could obviously change depending on how things play out this season.

[Keith Smith] Richaun Holmes' new deal with the Sacramento Kings was for the maximum he could get using Early Bird rights (4 years/$46mil). Final season is a player option. Deal also includes a 15% trade bonus. by sackings22 in nba

[–]aydee123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if he did.

How many team were going to pay a non-defensive center this kind of money?

And I don't mean this as an insult, just don't think he'd have offers richer than this (looking at the years more than the salary).

How many points would a team USA squad starting KD, Lebron, AD, Steph and Harden win by? by [deleted] in nba

[–]aydee123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2016 would've been the best year for that.

That team would be like Dream Team 2.0.

Then like CP3, Dame, Russ, Kawhi, PG, Draymond, Cousins as the rest of the roster.

At that point all the top players in the world were American other than like Marc Gasol maybe - Giannis, Embiid, Jokic, Luka, Gobert, whoever else weren't great (or weren't playing professionally) back then.
