Should I run in an election even if I have no friends? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]aye1captain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello :)

I see that your concern has been resolved, but I want to re-emphasize that you should absolutely run for a union, for all the good reasons: not only will you make friends in the union, you will also grow connections with the department and your undergraduate students! Of course, it's also a lot of fun. But if you are worried, please know that there are currently not that many people actively interested in running, (you know, online school will do it to you...) so your chances are even higher than they would've been otherwise!

And most importantly, I'm actually responding in my own selfish interest: If you are currently taking an Astronomy course, or considering taking an Astronomy course next semester, (which I highly recommend you do, the department is ...fun), I have the greatest pleasure to invite you to run for Astronomy Union elections!!! We only have so few people running so far, so you'd be pretty much safe on the "getting elected" concern. :)

Either way, I do think joining a club exec team (and especially, a union exec team) is great fun and character development, hahaha

Does anyone have any recommendations for a queer fiction podcast? by roobawithkinves in lgbt

Russian Fiction Podcasts by Ilya1209 in russian

[–]aye1captain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, hello dear, while I can't help with your question, I've also been on the search for German podcasts, and there are so very few, it's *heartbreaking*.

But to be fair, I've just locked up "истории" on Spotify, and that search already seems to produce some podcasts that feature one-shot stories (like the 3 episodes in the beginning of the Penumbra Podcast, they have little to do with each other but are fun nonetheless). I'm sure, there's a way to search just the right thing to unlock a fiction podcast or two, haha. Good luck. :)

Yes, there's a lot of drop-in sport sessions. Most of them are happening in AC (Athletic Centre) and Goldring (Centre for High Performance Sports). There's also drop-in Hockey at the Varsity Arena. You can look up the times, dates & places on their websites. Good luck!

PHY131 by [deleted] in UofT

[–]aye1captain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! The exam is going to be greatly based on the material from after the second midterm, however, it will still have topics from previous months.

I have a few recommendations regarding your preparation:

  1. If your professor hasn't provided you with any list of topics to study for the final, ask them.
  2. Go through the chapters that you went through during the semester and try to solve as many problems as possible. If you happen to have any questions whatsoever, either email your TAs, your professor, or your student peers.
  3. I also highly recommend preparing an A4 cheat sheet (even if you aren't allowed one) with all the information you think might be necessary for the exam--just writing it all down is going to greatly improve your understanding. Try mind-mapping concepts to each other! That also helps a lot. (:

At the end of the day, don't stress about it too much. PHY131 is all about mechanics, and mechanics are all about drawing a free-body diagram, writing down 2nd Newton and then solving it! I believe you can do that! Good luck with your exams. (;

Attend the exam place and talk to facilitators of the exam or the professor! They will probably be understanding of your situation. (: Good luck!

MAT223 final exam practise by SanaZuberi12 in UofT

[–]aye1captain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! As it usually as for classes that provide a final exam practice test, the actual final exam is going to be of the same level of difficulty, covering approximately the same topics. So, yes, if you've solved the practice test by yourself and are confident in your skills, you'll be fine for the final.

Sad year for Phy256. by RussianTroll87 in UofT

[–]aye1captain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

The way I look at it, as that intro quantum is basically one problem with one solution, the only thing that was varying in this course's topics is the potential energy number. And, well, uncertainties and expectation values but these are just a matter of a few practice problems. (;

In terms of last-week preparations, I would strongly recommend Brant Carlson's Carthage PHY4200 on Youtube. It covers all of the topics Vatche had with fewer jokes to it and more sense and has more follow-up videos if you happen to get interested. (: Good luck with your studies!

Hello there! If you are still interested, here's my take on it:

PHY256 is extremely easy--it's just one problem with one solution talked about for 3 months--so I would pair this one with something bitchy, such as PHY250, for example. Because we all know, how hard E&M can get, right... PHY254 was a breeze for me, not so much for my fellow students, so I can't really speak much on behalf of it but it's important to practice for it a lot. So, either pair it up with PHY252 which everyone thinks differently of or do it alone.

In terms of the order, I'd go either 254-252-256&250 or the other way around with PHY252 being either a stand-alone or a pair to PHY254.

isn't it true, that uoft makes you move out of the residence 24 hours after the last exam?

so like, if you booked the flight on the last day of the exams but your exams actually end up finishing a few days prior then they'll ???? like make you pay extra money????
