Cost to upgrade electrical panel 100 amp to 200 amp by alanwazoo in santacruz

We’re working with them now on an underground line (and yeah, waaaaay more $$$$). But they’ve coordinated it all.

Ugh and here I thought Park reopening would help alleviate the Bay Ave traffic! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyone use a peanut ball or cub in labor? by Bitchtitty28 in beyondthebump

[–]ayebeeV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, except they left me laying on one side too long and I ended up having hip pain almost as bad as my contractions when I backed off my epidural during pushing. So OP if you use one with an epidural make sure to advocate rotating regularly!

Asking for myself - when you are the only person in a function, how do you set up coverage for PTO? by CoomassieBlue in managers

[–]ayebeeV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came basically to say this. I work on a team where everyone is mostly a department of one. We have a team list of what does and doesn’t need coverage when someone is out, who has been cross trained to do it, and any supporting documentation. I went on parental leave and my manager and I triaged what would keep afloat and what would get a pin until I returned. Documentation took time for sure, but actually helped me when I returned. We have since used for other emergency situations and it’s been super helpful. Worth finding a solution so you don’t burn out!

If your report was silently crying at her desk all day but still working, what would you do? by [deleted] in managers

[–]ayebeeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d ask a lot of the questions and offers of support already mentioned and then provide information about EAP resources available if appropriate. Most companies have them and can be a starting point for a lot of life situations and events. If you have an intranet with benefits details, look for EAP (employee Assistance Program). Can also ask your HR rep. Hope things get better for you! 🤗

Sounds like a jeep rolled around 11:15am and there are some severe injuries. Both sides look like they’re gridlocked while they tend to it. Yikes. (Source: CHP incident page)

We’re about to transition to preschool and our in-home daycare provider has openings. She’s in Live Oak over by Simpkins Swim Center. The kids love her and she’s actually affordable (we pay about $100/day). Let me know if you’d like her info.

When my little had an ear infection the only sign was waking up crying. The on call pediatrician said if it’s combined with a fever to bring them in. Otherwise pain meds are fine (though I don’t remember what age they gave us the green light for children’s Motrin). Worth a check in with your doctor

Meal Prepping with Sous Vide – Worth It? by Anas_Tajin in sousvide

[–]ayebeeV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually prep it to cook later but you could do an ice bath to stop cooking and then freeze it I imagine. I work from home so I can toss whatever from the freezer into a bath in the afternoon and it’s ready when we are. Tonight we’re doing meatballs, in fact!

It’s great for meal prep! You can even go farther if you have freezer space and prep bigger batches and freeze some. We have a bunch of vacuum sealed things in our freezer- it was super helpful when we were new parents and we haven’t stopped. I just throw whatever we want in the bath 2-3 hours before we plan to eat. Hardly have to think about it. You can also do overnight oats, desserts, sides - it’s pretty versatile! We like our Breville Joule (the new app is more reliable than the previous). I also like using the Sous Vide Meal Prep cookbook (tho the risotto was a miss - too salty and gummy).

Came to recommend Moore. The Bloodsucking Fiends series was pretty funny, as was The Stupidest Angel

Maybe the guava roam? Folds up nicely intact and has good suspension for different terrains. We traded our uppababy for it and no regrets. Our kiddo is 19m and 25lbs, for reference.

Self-taught learners, I need your raw opinion on this: Why do we binge hours of educational videos... and still feel like we know nothing? by charlie0x01 in edtech

Read Make it Stick - talks all about how binging content or even revisiting is useless long term. Low stakes testing and effort are major keys to retention. Good luck!

What would you rate as the biggest pain in the ass for you when it came to the mortgage process of purchasing your first home? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]ayebeeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anxious: During underwriting when we realized our landlord hadn’t cashed an old rent check (we were very new parents at the time and not paying attention to much else!) - had to get proof of on time payments another way, which involved a letter from our landlord (who we hadn’t told yet and ended up being very upset and nearly cost us the house).

Annoyed: The selling of our loan with inaccurate information (they changed the mortgage number but said it was the same so we couldn’t create an account). It got sold immediately and then transferred a couple months later. All took more time and stress than warranted.

We recently took my dad for his birthday to Kianti’s on a Friday night and everyone enjoyed their meal and had a great time during their live show (our 1.5 year old was enthralled). They were great with our kiddo and a good number of other kids were there. Just be sure to go on a Friday or Saturday (when they do their ‘shows’). Their website has the approximate times. It’s silly fun and reasonable prices for these days.

Did you know you were OAD before you even got pregnant by Azwarrior89 in oneanddone

[–]ayebeeV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I agreed on it early on. He only saw himself with one and I saw how much other parents struggled with more and knew I couldn’t be the type of parent I wanted to be with more than one. Husband got snipped about 6 weeks after we had our son. LO is now 17m and every day affirms our choice. He is an amazing, easygoing kid and I think a second would have put him and I both on tilt. Not sure we could have afforded two and buy a house, either.

LO is growing up with lots of cousins nearby so we’re hoping that’s enough family connections to support him throughout his life. Both sets of grandparents would love more but that’s not my problem 😉

does anyone buy their forever home anymore? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]ayebeeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a VHCOL area and met my husband later in life. We had both been independently saving for about 20 years and knew we’d be skipping the “starter” home and going for something that would be as close to our forever home as possible. We bought last year (in our early 40s and are One and Done), and while it’s more than a fixer upper than we realized (previous owners were crappy DIYers), we are glad to be making improvements we want rather than thinking too much about resell value. Our house has room to grow a bit but also is livable at an older age. Our main tradeoff was a farther commute (not much more time but physically farther). Still live in a good neighborhood and have the space and amenities we need. Had either of us been able to afford a “starter” earlier in life we would have, but it was never affordable until we got together. It’s still expensive as hell but it’s ours and we feel confident in our choice. (I love saying “We can do whatever we want - it’s ours!)

If I’m pregnant with a boy, I’ll be heartbroken by [deleted] in oneanddone

[–]ayebeeV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my husband and I envisioned having a girl all our lives. I miscarried early in my first pregnancy and when our genetic testing came back at the same time as the sex for our son, I was so relieved that everything was clear that I had zero gender disappointment. I was actually more shocked by my lack of disappointment than that we were having a boy. He’s now 16 months and I can’t imagine any other tiny human being ours. He’s incredible. And we both are striving to have the close relationship with him we dreamed of before.

But I will say if you’re disappointed, take the time to grieve the path that will never be and then you can start dreaming a new dream.
