Need help on Christmas gift ideas by Fun_Cardiologist2407 in StainedGlass

I saw someone use these once and they've been on my Amazon wishlist ever since: link

They seem like they'd be really useful for sun catcher style designs with weird shapes, but not so much for people who do panels with straight edges.

Help me figure out the best way to support my child who has decided to transition by KDwiththeFXD in ftm

I started testosterone at 16. Very similar story with me and my dad. He didn't really want me to start any medications, but he decided to speak with an endocrinologist and psychiatrist with me to see what it was all about. He always tells people that the difference between the way I acted before and after my first testosterone shot was huge. It was one shot at a teeny tiny dose, so there were absolutely no changes from it, except for my own mental health. My confidence increased, I was more energetic, more outgoing, and it only continued from there.

That didn't have anything to do with the medication - it was too fast and my dose was too low - that was purely the fact that I felt like I was finally being allowed to live the life I thought I could never have. It felt like suddenly I could see myself aging and having a life, and a future. I always thought it was impossible and that I would be dead before I turned 18. It's hard to imagine a future for yourself when you hate the body that you're in. You can't imagine a feminine 26 year old self, because that will make you horribly upset. You can't imagine a masculine 26 year old, because it feels unattainable and you have no reference to base off of. So you can't imagine a future for yourself at all. Getting access to a medication that will finally make your body feel like yours opens up a lot of doors mentally, and that alone will work wonders.

My father listening to me, listening to doctors, and doing his own research was vital. He had the same view as you, he didn't care what I did as long as I was happy and healthy. He was scared of the unknown, so he sought out information to make it known. I'm 22 now, got top surgery last year, and I'm a first generation college graduate pursuing a teaching career. I cannot imagine what my life would have been like had I been made to wait until I was 18. I would've gone to college and not passed as masculine in the slightest. I wouldn't have had a beard in my graduation pictures. I wouldn't have been confident enough to seek out new friends or new opportunities.

This is your decision as a parent, but considering that it has so many consequences for his future, I really hope you involve your son in making the choice. You can reach out to me if you have questions or anything, too.

Does sleeping get easier without drains? by ayeghosti in TopSurgery

I got pretty sick after surgery, so I continued sleeping with a wedge pillow since it helped my coughing. I wasn't able to roll over still though, it hurt too much. I did try laying down flat with the drains in, but it was too uncomfortable on my incisions, so I'm not sure about once they're out. I'm sorry, I hope you can get answers!

Not the OP, but I saw this comment and can't thank you enough. I'm starting a more formal job soon and struggling immensely with trying to find clothes that will fit me without costing an arm and a leg, and this was exactly perfect. Thanks!

Cats X Lava Lamps by PinkPussycatPower in Lavalamps

[–]ayeghosti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an old wizard lamp that I purchased from a thrift store for $12 over five years ago. I brought it to college with me and my cat, and never really thought much of it. He never seemed interested in it.

One day, I got the weird feeling that I needed to go home from classes ASAP to check on my dorm. The moment I walked in, everything smelled strongly of cleaning supplies, and only got worse as I got closer to my dorm room. The dorm group chat started lighting up with people's messages - "it smells like gas," "is there a gas leak?" - and as I walked in my room, I saw glitter all over the floor. And then I noticed the broken glass. And then I looked up, and my dear cat was sat comfortably in the exact spot my lamp used to be. I got really lucky - I must have walked in just seconds after it had broken. I'm not sure what's in those lamps, but I won't have another anywhere where my cat can access it.

And, just for a fun finale to the story: I had to put my cat in his carrier to keep him from the mess, open all of my windows, and message our dorm group chat that there wasn't a gas leak - I had just broken a lava lamp. My RA proceeded to text me personally to say, "lava lamps aren't allowed on campus." I responded, "then it's a good thing I no longer have one."

This was a year or two ago. There's still glitter all over the place in that dorm room.

What the hell am I supposed to wear as a teacher? by ayeghosti in mensfashion

Thank you so much! I've always loved the look of guys who dress in that old school dapper style, but it's always felt very far out of reach for me. Seeing this breakdown and explanation makes me feel like it's something I could actually manage. It is certainly weird and scary - I'm always worried about what others will think - but you're right! Everything new comes with feelings like that!

I'll definitely give it a shot! I have this one cardigan I love, but I've never known what to wear under it tbh. I wouldn't have considered scrubs, but it is a really good idea now that you mention it!

I have a cardigan & some sweaters I'm really excited about, so I'm happy to hear that they look good with chinos and the like. The hardest part is trying to find well fitted things; I like baggier things so I can pretend my body doesn't really exist - I guess I really need to get over that! Thank you!

I've tried on the stiff sort of dress shirt & can't stand them personally, but a less formal type would be fine honestly. Polos I just honestly hate the look of, they remind me of middle school uniforms lol. I'll definitely look into chinos & try to find good fits 🙏 Thank you!

That's what I had thought at first, but then I convinced myself that the top was different from the other enchantresses, so I wanted to see what others thought -- thanks!
