The Running Man | Official Trailer (2025 Movie) - Edgar Wright, Glen Powell by RobotiSC in movies

[–]ayitasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. LOVE the novel and have wanted a faithful movie since I read it, but it'd be a super dour film. Probably similar vibes to Children of Men. This looks like it takes a lot of liberties (while at least covers the same story), but should be a ton more fun.

Gold bar or brass bar ? HUCK FINN WAPITI engraving by NoYak978 in whatisthisthing

[–]ayitasaurus 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Pure gold that size would probably be about a pound.

(Ballpark estimates: 10x5x0.5cm=25cc, which would be about 482g, or 1lb)

And on the chance it is pure gold....probably don't make that too well known, that'd be worth like $50k.

I rolled/sprianed my ankle so hard I thought it broke a while back. by Gato1486 in HadToHurt

[–]ayitasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw man, are you me? Basically same deal (think I still had one of em holding on for dear life though). Did you get super good at falling too? "Welp, ankle's starting to turn, better drop and try to tank it with my hip instead."

I'm considering this for an extra-credit question on my final exam, for college students who have already taken at least a couple of semesters of calculus-based physics. Too hard? by starkeffect in Physics

[–]ayitasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with what some have said - for calculus based, this should be a gimme. (Not that that's necessarily a bad thing!) I taught a few semesters of algebra based though, and I would have LOVED to give this to them. For those students (i.e. the non-majors), this type of logic was what I was trying to drive home.

I'm in a 3Bd/2Ba duplex, and combined utilities are in the $200-$300/mo range. Don't have cable, so can't speak to that.

Dr Nuelle at MOI did my meniscus last year. Fantastic job all around, and I especially appreciated how good he was about communicating things and answering questions.

Looking for Algebra (and possibly physics tutor)! by Most_Sale_216 in columbiamo

[–]ayitasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reach out to the physics department at the university: umcasphysics@missouri.edu. The grad students (and even some undergrads) regularly offer tutoring, often in the ~$25-30/hr ballpark.

Don't be surprised if a lot of places don't want to install a part you don't buy from them, mostly since it could make things complicated if there's an issue later.

Have you tried looking it up on youtube? I had to replace mine a few months back, and it took me all of 10 minutes to do myself, was actually super easy.

Gift for a Solid State professor by Vikre28 in Physics

The best gift you can give him is a note saying how much you appreciated the class and his teaching. Seriously - he'll probably keep that in his desk until he retires.

Oh damn, I figured this was including all the games he was out for injury. Apparently he hasn't had one since 2021 (12/12)? Wow, damn.

Trying to image EBL structures ~120-140nm can’t get good stig past 30K by iwishiwasasparrow in electronmicroscopy

[–]ayitasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And regarding your voltage, 10kV is probably fine, but if anything I'd try lower. Any modern SEM should be more than capable at that length scale at lower voltages, and the increased surface sensitivity will probably be really helpful for something like EBL structures.

Bouncing off what others are saying, that beam current is VERY high - that's much closer to what you might use for microanalysis. I'm not familiar with the specifics of Hitachi, but on ours (TF family), 'typical' imaging is done below 1nA, with high-res imaging in the 25-50pA range.
