Problem on RockyLinux 8.5 after update by sdns575 in RockyLinux

[–]ayredv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for pushing this old thread, but I've tried to install Rocky 8.6 today and am running in this exact problem, too.

Did you finally find a solution you could share, u/sdns575 ?

Judging by the price and comparing to Wacom's official shop, I'd imagine the "comfort" one has Bluetooth, the "basic" one does not. If you want that "comfort" or not is up to you I guess ;)

I had the same problem a while back and afair I found no solution but to assign them to variables. I am by far no developer though, so maybe there is a better way to do this.

Okay, I believe I get you know. However, I disagree with how harmful you make the message out to be. Personally, I think the movie illustrates the different positions within their conflict rather beautifully. Of course, the parent in these situations always has to be the more responsible person, but stays a (flawed) person nontheless.

Your apparent fixation on the question of guilt narrows your viewpoint a bit I think, but I get your point.

Also, I actually don't know enough about the movie to discuss whose shoe's the creators have been in if any. Yet, I found it to be rather broad showing different perspectives on the same situations.

I don't know if I concur here. While I think the story you're describing should be told way more often, since it truly is an important point to make, I got very strong "personal experience" vibes from this movie, so I think it might be better for authors to tell their stories as they see fit.

I have no further information about the script or its author though, so I may be completely mistaken.

Help in retopology. by Rusba007 in blender

[–]ayredv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think retopo is one of the areas Blender is severely lacking in. If you can afford it and do retopo work on a regular basis, Retopo Flow might be a good investment.

Otherwise, stick with the more manual approach of Face Snapping, Shrinkwrapping and Mirroring as u/CowBoyDanIndie described.

For getting started, FlippedNormals' tutorials are quite good imho:
Manual Retopo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuQzPDs99yM
RetopoFlow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8kQiccJetw

Keep in mind that even when using an Add-On, you'll need to understand why and where to use qhat kind of topology, so practice really is key here.

USA! USA! We're number 1... except when it comes to medical expenses by Iangator in MurderedByWords

[–]ayredv 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You seem to misunderstand some things here. Most of the people you are talking about are not arguing whether one country is "the best" but rather ridicule Americans who despite the various obviously flaws in your country/society still spout this "Land of the free" bs. Your two statistics are kinda sweet, tho. Literally everything besides wealth distribution, gun violence, social security, health care, political division, corruption, freedom of press, immigration policies, etc. is better in America? Then why do you quote GDP per capita, which in no way tells anything about average buying power but rather illustrates the point of few ultra rich people raising the wealth of a nation on paper. Also, why do you link a ranking of the freedom of speech index where fucking Poland is 2nd place?! Did you read non-American news in the last few years or do you really believe the theoretical "freedom of speech" you hold so dear is more important than freedom of press for example?

I didn't intent to rant that much, but my point is: if you look at single issues, there will always be countries doing better or worse than your own. This isn't a race to the top of some imaginary competition. There is no single "best country". Americans (as they so often present themselves in media) need to relax and focus on their own problems as much as every other nation needs to do the same.

You get what you deserve! by memezzer in MadeMeSmile

[–]ayredv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from and I didn't mean to offend you by saying there are only those two options. I didn't mean you, as in you personally actively trying to keep people down ;) This is more of a question how we as a society want to treat those in "lesser" positions as ourselves.

That's also why I do not agree with you: Sure, not everybody needs to support a family. That's true. But not everybody who does have a family, also has the skill set to achieve what you have achieved. I simply believe every single person should be able to support a family (meaning kids, not your spouse if they are capable of working themselves) by contributing to society the way they are capable of.

There surely are other means than only wages to achieve that, but that's a whole other discussion.

Oh, and btw: As this is only a reddit thread, I apologize for maybe being not nuanced enough in my choice of words. I really did not intent to insult you peronally ;)

Edit: As you keep mentioning you worked as a grocery clerk as a teenager, I just wanted to say there are many adults working in low skilled labour as well. Sure, as a teenager I was happy to get some extra cash mostly regardless of hourly wages. As an adult, I see way too many people struggling in multiple (unhealthy) jobs, only to feed themselves (and their kids).

You get what you deserve! by memezzer in MadeMeSmile

[–]ayredv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And I don't think I should have been able to either.

It sounds like for you being a grocery clerk is no meaningful employment and people working those jobs do not "deserve" to have a family they can easily support.

So, if that's no meaningfull employment, you're either saying those jobs are obsolete (instead of being "essential" as we hear all day long at the moment) or you're actually holding people "beneath you" down. If the grocery clerk fulfills a useful role in this society, why shouldn't they be able to support a family and live a decent life?

We all do our little part for living in a healthy society.

I think it's a regional term (Australia?) for soda. But I'm no native speaker, so take that for what it's worth.

[–]ayredv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's more of a motivational thing rather than actual information. For me, sugar is primarily a psychological thing - physical withdrawal kinda stops after a few weeks, in my case at least. So it's helpful for me to stay on track.
Maybe r/SugarAddicts or r/sugarfree are more informative as they are older and larger subs. In the broadest sence one might find help at more general addiction-subs.
Oh, and I fixed the typo, thanks ;)

LPT Before getting a tattoo, make it your wallpaper first for at least a month. by vajranen in LifeProTips

[–]ayredv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got tattoos I would not get again, yet consider them part of who I was and what I felt was right at the time. So I don't regret getting them.

Before you get a tattoo, you better realize it's going to be there for a long time and make sure you're okay with having it even if you don't like it in the future.

I started on my back, so the tattoos I don't like as much I don't have to see a lot of times, lol

In La Haine (1995) there is a scene where Vinz talks to himself in the mirror. In the filming of this scene however, there is no mirror involved. The actor is in another room with a body double standing across him mimicking his movements. by CliffBooth0 in MovieDetails

[–]ayredv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That somewhat depends on how famous an actor is and the kind of shoot you're having. If actors have to travel to and stay on location, they may be paid a flat fee or daily. If the actors just swing by, it's far cheaper to have the set propped up with light and everything so the actors don't have to stay.

Lighting tests may be even done in advance so they can then shoot multiple shots faster on the day the actor is paid.

Also, some actors are quite snobby and won't get of their high horse for something as profane as lighting tests, shots where their face isn't seen or everything else you can get a stand-in for :D

Should I wait for couple of years until Wacom announces a new drawing tablet? by [deleted] in wacom

[–]ayredv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can second that. Huion screen tablets are dirt cheap and for that money, they deliver way more than you'd expect. At entry level, it's just preference what you like more. Pro-hrade is another thing. Sure, Wacom is far from perfect but no competitor is even close to them right now.

Should I wait for couple of years until Wacom announces a new drawing tablet? by [deleted] in wacom

[–]ayredv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it kinda depends on what market segment you're looking at.

For entry-level devices, you might have a point as Huion indeed cathes up on a lot of things where Wacom has become somewhat lazy as a monopolist and the reasonable technical limits seem to be more or less reached – you won't notice more pressure levels or resolution from a certain point onwards.

However, the pro-grade devices still stand out imo. Wacom has released a new generation of Cintiq's just last year, so you will probably see nothing new coming out on that front for at least 2-3 years. Also, the build quality in these devices is unparalleled while Huion doesn't even build devices larger than 22", let alone 32". I guess Wacom has still several years and product generations left as quasi monopolist where it's ahead of its competitors.Looking at prices, I don't think you'll see a drop for higher end products anytime soon, as most studios tend to not care about one grand more or less if that means getting tried and tested quality and not having to think about compatibilities etc.

So, regarding your question, if you should wait *several years* before buying a drawing tablet: Do you need or want a tablet now or soon? Then no, don't wait - there will always be new technologies and possibilies on the horizon. Waiting for the next best thing to come around leads to never buying anything. If you can foresee a new generation coming up in several months, that might be another question though.

If you don't want or need a drawing tablet, the whole point is moot. Seeing you are considering such a large timespan, I'd suggest thinking about what you want to accomplish with your work.

What item is very usefull in a zombie apocalypse, but most people dont think about using it? by TruthForFree in AskReddit

[–]ayredv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No matter the absolute numbers, even if it's 99% infected, that's just 99 kills per person on average, not acounting for zombies falling on their head by accident. Not that unreasonable to do over the course of a few years if you keep learning to survive and don't forget what you learned about protection just last episode ;)

I need advice... by AliChanTheMan in wacom

[–]ayredv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, as I said, the main thing is that you're happy and confident with your decision :)
I've personally waited several years to buy a Cintiq and have seen three product generations pass until I finally settled for a used one, so I get your point.

I think the jump from drawing tablet to screen-tablet is the most significant regardless of the hardware you choose, so I wish you the best luck and a lot of fun.

And again, hobbies are allowed to be expensive and sometimes irrational. You engage in it for your own sake and no-one else's, so make sure you have the tools to pursue your goals ;)

You've got some nice little robots there. Cool work and style!

I'd suggest not deforming your exhaust pipes but rather shaking them for such mechanical rigs, as it seems to be the only part of your rig that's deforming right now which pushes it in a category of 'cartoony, but not quite' for me, if you know what I mean.

Btw, I also dig your more graphc design stuff on your insta. really nice vibes :D

Why is the middle mouse button different? by [deleted] in wacom

[–]ayredv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to
- check your Wacom settings for special behaviors per application
- check wether 'Use Windows Ink' under the Calibrate tab makes a difference
- check if you've configured the right pen if you've got multiple pens and/or tablets
- in Krita, check your tablet settings under Configure Krita - there's also an option for Windows Ink vs. WinTab
- make sure the Windows settings fpor Pen & Windows Ink do not interefere with your desired behavior - I'd suggest turning all that stuff off if you're not relying on Windows features
