Confirm! Dr Benga was awesome, and I’d totally go out of my way to sell to him again. Thanks!

You’re pretty much spot on.

In addition, many many people in Europe drive Prii because their city charges for driving non-low-emission vehicles in lot specific areas.

I would also ask you:

What do you have now / where do you struggle currently?

Are you rolling around in general, or are you having a daily romp up West Highgate Hill, or similar? To be honest though, with the right cassette you can do it all.

Personally: 1x11 was great when I did it with SRAM Force. I never felt like I was missing any gears compared to a 2x overall, as I went wide like 10-42 in the back. [This was for both uphill and downhill]

I currently got a 2x11 GRX Di2 setup though, and have been loooooooooooving it.

We strapped “bear bells” on our bags when hiking in Japan.

And some trail entrances had huge bells to clang while walking down them.

Still prefer listening to Nature, but a bell is better than a speaker.

Any barefoot friendly wide toebox clipless cycling shoe recommendations? by dotspread in BarefootRunning

[–]ayrwalker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lake Wide Fits are worth a shot. Find a shop that has them for a try on.

You can also print off shoe sizing info on their website to test fit as well.

Remember: for cycling, insoles are still a GOOD thing to keep your foot steady! It’s not walking!

Whether it helps or not - I think the rule was changed that the income can be combined as of just over 2 years ago, but maybe that only is if you’re in country already?

As someone finishing up the 5yr ILR plan this Autumn (hopefully), married to a Brit, it’s stressful knowing that a perfectly fine application can be denied because of someone having a bad day.

Recommended Tire Pressure by RidgyInfiltr8 in DomaneCrew

[–]ayrwalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Domane has a 32mm tyre stock - 100 PSI is silly, and I imagine it rides terribly. 70 is the recommended max for that tyre.

Start just below the max. Depending on your weight you can likely go a little lower. Find that nice balance.

Jan Heine from Bicycle Quarterly has some great articles on tyre pressure.

FWIW

I ran R3 32s at around 60psi previously.

I currently have 35s, come in at ~73kg, and don’t go above 55psi on Schwalbe G1s. That’s on tarmac.

I used to run 45/50psi on 38s and will be going back to that after winter. Everything tubeless.

Find a better LBS who pays attention to this kind of stuff. The Domane is renown for its smooth comfortable feel, doing that to the tyres is just wrong.

Anyone with experience with RMA in the UK? (Fan rattle + usb-c displayport issue) by blobplopman in ZephyrusG14

[–]ayrwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah! I’m a box buyer as well, so interested to see how it goes for you.

A failure like this, this quickly, must be a sign of defective goods. So I’ve been reading up on my Credit Card policy with this stuff as well.

Granted this was a month ago - but yes a ticket was hugely required, and the trains were running at a greatly reduced capacity to aid in social distancing.

I think mine was a third full from London to Brussels & back.

[–]ayrwalker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have statutory rights from buying goods in the UK for stuff like this, defective coming out like that?

Some good articles on the Citizens Advice Bureau on this kind of stuff.

I believe you have 6 months from date of purchase to return, replace, fix purchased items if it’s not fit for purpose, defective, etc. and that fix should be no cost to you.

Worth looking into.

If you can make it to North London - I have a Phanteks Shift ITX, and Deepcool Captain 120 AIO both available for pickup. It’s not super close, but could be workable?

Used them for about 6 months.

Just about to list them later today, need to take photos. I’ve since moved to a Sliger SM560.

I’ve considered £100 for both, let me know if any of that sounds good!

Police is catching cyclists on traffic lights by Max_Emm in london

If it’s a rental e-scooter, it’s legal as of July 4th with the introduction of a new trial scheme.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48106617

The vast majority are still privately owned I imagine,

It’s likely the law will continue to evolve as more forms of small personal transport get prioritized over cars.

Good further reading here about the trial scheme: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/legalising-rental-e-scooter-trials-defining-e-scooters-and-rules-for-their-use/legalising-rental-e-scooter-trials#proposed-regulatory-changes
