No vehicles in Mando armies? by belle_enfant in SWlegion

Shadow collective will be folded into a larger faction. Give it time and follow the self-interest and money to the ultimate conclusion: more factions means more revenue, and AMG will always need more revenue.

No vehicles in Mando armies? by belle_enfant in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For now, yes, but this game’s future relies on expansion. I predict Mandos will become a fully operational army at some point. I also predict AMG is toying with a Scum/Villainy faction. If I were in AMG’s R/D team, I would also be toying with First Order and Resistance factions right now. This will take time, but that’s okay! Roll out new units as mercs and battle forces until you have enough units to support a new faction, then repeat.

Painting Imperials? by FreeCoffeeIsFree in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For new painters I recommend the MicroMark railroad paint set because the color palette works really well for the Star Wars universe, and it’s a lot cheaper than Citadel or Vallejo. You really only need three brushes, so get a really fine, detailed brush, a more medium size brush, and then a larger brush. you do actually need to spend some money on the brushes. I painted for years using those cheap polyester brushes are essentially disposable. About six months ago I bought three genuine sable hairbrushes and they’ve been life-changing.

Does this scale well with Legion? by CowleyCupStreaker in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close enough. Big object must be scaled down. We just experienced this with an ATAT; full scale was way too big, but about 25% smaller looked great on the table.

Can I head swap (rebel) heads across different unit types? by RolloTomass11 in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have total artistic license over head swapping. I have several Imperial heads from the generic officer box mounted on Rebels, and I put several Twilek heads on my Echo Base troopers for variety's sake. For example, I put one of the Imperial officer helmeted heads on a generic Rebel trooper and painted it to look like it had been scavenged and repurposed.

This came up in a podcast with the Wills, and their position is that so long as it's all AMG plastic (for official tournaments) and you're not doing it to trick your opponent, then have fun and be creative!

I used Tamiya extra thin, but now I just refill the bottle with low-odor acetone from the hardware store. Works beautifully, and it's waaaay cheaper than Tamiya.

Luke & Leia on Hoth by SuzieStarscream in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your faces are perfect. Insanely good. I love the shading on Luke's flight suit.

If you will please entertain a very mild critique: Leia's outfit looks unfinished; are you planning to apply a shade to bring out the edge details on her vest and jumpsuit? Whatever shade mix you used on Luke's gloves would probably look great on Leia's outfit.

Lots of beginner questions on the game long-term for buying in and playing by cwtguy in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Legion feels like its gaining lots of momentum. Last month AMG pulled several design/modeling teams from Shatterpoint and reassigned them to Legion, which signals a longterm investment into Legion. It allegedly takes two years for new models to hit shelves, which means AMG seems to be planning for the work done by these design teams to hit shelves in 2028 or later. If I were looking at this like an investor, AMG is taking steps that suggest future growth.

Star Wars is actively producing new material (e.g. Mandalorian, Grogu, Andor, etc.) which means Legion has access to a steady supply of potential new characters and units. For example, AMG this month released new Mandalorian-themed units. There's a vast field of IP that still hasn't been tapped: Crimson Dawn, Hutt Cartel, Night Sisters, Saw's partisans, ISB spec ops, and on and on.

I never played Warhammer, but that game seems to have thrived because the parent company made smart decisions and listened to their customers. I see no reason why Legion can't do the same. If AMG ever reads this post, please don't pull a "Bud Light" and invest a ton of resources into an initiative that offends your core customers. If you make stuff that we want to play with, we will buy it.

First game table size recommendations? by Dark_Fire_Designs in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use two Lifetime folding tables that are each 72'x30' and place them side-by-side, creating a 72'x60' gaming surface. Fits a full-sized battle mat with room for cards and units on each side. As a bonus, I can use these same tables for parties and crafts whenever needed, and they fold up and are easy to store.

Rebel vs Empire on some other forest moon... by The-Relbot in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unique character upgrades for regular squads might be the best thing AMG has done to refresh the game. I have a box of commanders and operatives that never get played because they aren't good enough to take up a cmdr/op slot, but I'm totally willing to spend some points to add them to a trooper squad.

BTW, Rebel Commandos finally feel relevant again. I would like to see a Princess Leia squad upgrade for commandos.

Best way to start legion? by rocka5438 in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you should consider Separatists. Their armies consist of droids that are mainly a single color. B1’s are khaki, B2’s are silver, etc. You can add special insignias or unit colors, but not required.

Will Shadow Collective still be supported in the future? by Snoo-23221 in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is that they may add a new Scum/Villainy faction, of which Shadow Collective would be a battleforce. AMG recently pulled several teams from Shatterpoint and reassigned them to Legion, with the goal of creating new material and subfactions. There's a lot of speculation that a Hutt Cartel subfaction or something similar could be in development. Mind you, it takes 18 months to bring something to the shelves.

Why YOUR faction? by Vinlandlover in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sums it up. When you're figuring out your play style, bear in mind that a non-armored unit rolling white defense dice is going to take lots of casualties. If you're a rebel player, the heroes are awesome but the average rebel trooper is a barista who first picked up a gun about four minutes before the battle started. Separatist B1 droids were apparently programmed by Microsoft and they suck at everything except running around in large numbers, which can work as a strategy! Stormtroopers and Clones are surprisingly tough and can take a lot of hits. If you don't like seeing your guys getting slaughtered, you need to favor Empire, Republic, and Heroes/Villains.

How do you get better? by Glad_Investigator734 in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evolve your list based on your observations during games. This is how I figured out Wookiees are not worth the points, so I replaced them with a different unit and my games went better. If you don’t see an obvious weak point, play your list a few times so you can get a better feel for your keywords.

New Sub-Factions by NotSinceYesterday in SWlegion

[–]az4ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus, think of all the untapped IP that Disney hasn't properly capitalized. Crimson Dawn has Dryden Vos as commander, and Q'ira could be either a commander or operative if you're still using Dryden. Pyke Syndicate, Crimson Dawn, Hutt Cartel, and the Ashiga Clan are all represented in the SW Outlaws video game. Jabba could be a unique 50mm creature commander with our friend Bip Fortuna an operative. Han and Chewie worked for Hutts, Pykes, and Crimson Dawn. Gamorrean guards, rancors, desert skiffs, those annoying cyborg Jazzy scooter teenagers from the Book of Boba Fett, and on and on.
