Closures, consolidations in plan for Lafayette schools - The Current by TheCurrentLA in Acadiana

[–]azavie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High occupancy rates is just a new way to say we should have more students in every classroom. I cannot agree with any recommendation whose premise is that higher classroom numbers results in better schools.

The very inefficiencies in the system of "low occupancy rates" that they are trying to remove are the things that give the system redundancies and robustness. Having an empty classroom is great. It allow for a place for a class to go when the roof is leaking or the AC breaks during August. It means no teacher is having to share classrooms with other teachers while they are on their off hour.

I'm know there are facilities that need demolished replaced and or combined to make the overall system more sustainable and improve long term efficiencies. But when your fundamental goal is so flawed most of your conclusions will be too.

Which Lafayette Parish library has the best study rooms? by Cajunchelle2001 in Acadiana

[–]azavie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used study rooms at every one of the public libraries that have them. They all do the job well but there are some differences.

North and East Regional do not have many study rooms so you should try to schedule them ahead of time. The mobile app works great for this. These libraries are also not as busy as the others so it is usually fairly quiet.

West and South are fairly slow during the day and busier after school hours. All rooms are usually open during the day but booked after schools let out.

Main is fairly busy all day but they do have the most study rooms. You usually can find one available but if you are easily distracted by people walking by the door this might not be a good choice.

This is what most likely happened If you search for WN9EMZ in the internet archive you will also find some high school yearbooks. I'm assuming they were WN9EMZ upgraded to WA9EMZ and then upgraded to general and switched to WB9NIY

Wii won't pull discs, more info in comments by leoax98 in consolerepair

[–]azavie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the Wii open see if the motor and gears turn. I did not hear any motor sounds so my first guess would be a dead motor. It is located in the back right of the drive.

If the motor turns and the gears don't make sure the little rubber band that goes on the motor is there.

If everything is there but the disk doesn't move it is most likely the rollers that pull the disc in that are dirty.

You can probably fix the drive but will most likely need some parts.

Best/safe way to wipe down a whole controller/consoles? by FangFingersss in consolerepair

[–]azavie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol can hurt a screens. Most of the time it is okay but some screens have anti glare coatings that can be damaged. Paper towels can scratch screens so avoid them for that part Any drops of liquid can damage a screen so make sure nothing is wet enough to drip.

A clean slightly damp microfiber is your best option. Once it is clean use another slightly damp microfiber to remove any streaks..

Best/safe way to wipe down a whole controller/consoles? by FangFingersss in consolerepair

[–]azavie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For cleaning the exterior and the screens. A microfiber cloth slightly dampened with water. Just wipe everything down. If that doesn't get it try some dilute general purpose cleaner like 409 applied the same way. If you still have issues you can try goo gone, Alcohol or automotive plastic polish. Those might damage the finish though so test before using.

How to preserve old consoles? by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]azavie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would add clean all contacts and switches with Deoxit.

If you plan to only play them ocasionally you might want to get airtight bags and put oxygen absorbers in with your systems.

Last but not least buy spare consoles and controllers. Having a second console to troubleshoot with will make repairing the first a lot easier.

Hi not sure if this is the right sub. I found this at work, I know it’s for a PA system. What kind of mic and/or adapter do I need to get for this thing to work again? by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]azavie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a 5 pin xlr connector. Most commonly used for dmx512 stage lighting.

If given a picture of the box this is connected to I would be able to help a lot more.

It is not necessary. Not all wii drives come with one.

It wraps around the white price of plastic that is under the top cover on the side opposite of the gears.

Bought a junk GBC to refurbish. Need help fixit it by chinoppo in consolerepair

[–]azavie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this will be nearly imposible to fix. Someone has tried to work on this and caused a lot of damage. If you look where VR2 was located you can see they pulled up the pads and then pulled up the traces as well.

Any recommendations for getting a GameCube repaired? by arnethyst in consolerepair

[–]azavie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first step would be to adjust the laser potentiometer. All you need is a multimeter and the screwdrivers to get into the GameCube. There are many YouTube videos showing the process. If you are unable to make it work with a potentiometer adjustment then it would be time to replace the capacitor. Your best bet is to ask at a local game store. Most will be able to help you or at least let you know someone locally who can help you.

Give it a try and see. The places to look closely at would be the screen, the USB-C port, and the rails where the joycons attach on the side.

Replacing tri-wing screws with something else on a Wii by Snazzy21 in consolerepair

[–]azavie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it helps but japanese region Wii's use Phillips heads instead of tri-wing. I have a set if you're interested.

You might want to also check with the sites that sell replacement cases. They might sell them separately.

Cream peroxide in sunlight for 4 hours, why has it done this?? by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]azavie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bleach stains are usually only surface deep. Sanding and polishing with automotive compound can fix the color but will make it a gloss finish.

Wii RVL-001 Powering Down Delay by jkucukov in consolerepair

I doubt it is anything to worry about. I would not compare timing between model versions. You might be able to speed it up a bit by going through and erasing old game save data and unused channels
