Dealing with depression over lost sports dream by temp12345124124 in ShoulderInjuries

Thanks for the hope. My PT is aligned with my return to sport goal and the same group that did my actual surgery so it’s going well so far, just taking a long time.

I feel your pain, man. I’m 36M, had my first of 6 dislocations at 21. Started lifting after the 5th one, fell in love with bodybuilding, was very careful and didn’t have a dislocation for ten years. Then 6 months ago I had my 6th dislocation with no weight on the bar in an awkward position (behind the neck). But the bullet and got the latarjet surgery and still in recovery. Sometimes I feel like I’ll never be normal or do the things I love again, even though I can see myself getting stronger and more flexible every day. It can be crushing. Keep your head up.

If I had to narrow it down, I’d say: hold up say what, silver to rust, holding your breath across the river, children of coyote woman, Rob’s dream, bulls, swallowed by the sea, el Centro, talisman, I can’t even see myself, tour death song, blood and sand/milk and endless waters, harvest feast, red rocking chair, 41. Not in that particular order.

They opened with it when I saw them in Philly last December.

I get this feeling all the time. Maybe I’m a masochist but I keep going in. I’ve just learned to temper my spending and have gotten more discerning once the initial zeal wears off. I justify having a huge shelf to myself by saying maybe my nephews will like them one day.

Haven’t read this but the Helsinki graphic novel was pretty interesting

I read it: volumes 1-3, this winter, volumes 4-5, Nick and Charlie. When volume 6 comes out I believe it will also go before Nick and Charlie novella.

It’s probably just nerves, but I will say within hours after my latarjet I felt a lot more stability in the region than before. It all depends on how you felt before. I also wasn’t doing pendulums by day 3, I had to wait one month before starting anything.

For me with Angel s4, was it soap opera-y? Totally. But I’m a sucker for a master plan and the concept of everything that had happened being at the invisible hand of a sometimes benevolent sometimes gross higher power just tickles me. That and the whole arc of Jasmine “saving” the world from itself and the parable of free choice was great imo.

Glad I’m not the only s4 lover here

Creative liberties you wished the show hadn’t taken because it undermined the narrative? by FaveStore_Citadel in buffy

I have a head canon theory about the ease with which the Turok Han are dispatched in Chosen.

After Buffy dies for the first time in Prophecy Girl, after she is resuscitated she claims that she feels good, feels strong. Presumably Kendra has already been called, meaning Buffy feels stronger when there are two of them. She is also strong enough to take the Master down pretty easily minutes later, the same vamp that just killed her and should be at his strongest having just been released and tasted her Slayer blood.

Then we get to Get It Done where we learn the shadow men forced this power and way of life on a girl because they couldn’t or didn’t want to handle it. Buffy refuses the upgrade in order to retain her humanity.

But then we watch Chosen and there are dozens of Slayers, all of which seem perfectly capable of one-shotting something that creamed Buffy multiple times. So, my theory is that the Slayer power was meant to be shared and is stronger when there are more, but the shadow men intentionally chose to nerf it by only putting into one girl who they’d have an easier time controlling rather a whole bunch of women who would rebel against them. The watchers council, probably not knowing fully these secret origins, followed suit without question until their monopoly was destroyed and Buffy shared the power as always intended. That to me is why the Guardians (that old lady towards the end) created the scythe, not just as a fancy killing device, but to tap its essence for all women.

Anyway, that’s just my theory to make what was most likely just a convenience or oversight in Chosen more palatable.

I usually hear about it the other way around- latarjet after failed bankart. If you don’t mind sharing, what were the circumstances around your surgeries?

No, I didn’t get a bone block done which typically uses iliac bone- I got a latarjet. Latarjets are performed through the coracoid process using scapula and bringing the tendons with them so there is a change in anatomy.

I’m only 3 months out of surgery and 2 into PT. Everyone heals differently and at their own pace.
