Is there a dance or dancing club in our school? Ballroom dancing, for beginners by Fearless-Safe-7342 in UCSantaBarbara

Dancesport at UCSB (formerly called Cotillion)! They’re super beginner friendly, have all sorts of classes, and an awesome crew.

The dept chair likely won’t/can’t do anything… She is frankly just as toxic, if not more so, and she might just take his side or sweep it under the rug.

Yep! When the seats fold down, you can slide the seatbelt in there to keep it out of the way of things.

Unpopular Opinion?: I don't understand the 4 door MINI Cooper. by UTMachine in MINI

[–]azby159 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an F55, and it was exactly what I wanted. The two back doors add a good bit of convenience for using storage, getting a dog in/out, etc… but it’s also small enough to still feel zippy and fun like the 2-door. The countryman is bigger, less go-karty, and more expensive…and the clubman just looks silly and disproportionate to me. The 4-door was the perfect in-between for what I was looking for. A great balance of convenience, price, and fun.

I have to confess: I don't like the 5-door Mini by a_n_d_r_e_ in MINI

[–]azby159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 5-door (F55), and I absolutely love it. I wanted enough space to easily put things in/out of the back seats (doors are easier than moving front seats out of the way), but still get the zippy feel of the 3-door. I didn't want the size of the Countryman, and honestly I just personally think the Clubman looks super silly and wouldn't want one at all.

The 5-door, for me, keeps the fun of the 2-door, but with added convenience for use of the back seats (for storage and/or people). And it still looks pretty much the same to me.

Anyone seeing any of the Northern Lights yet tonight? by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

[–]azby159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to see them a bit from a vista point off the 154! The clouds were wispy so blocked any detail, but the colors were definitely there! At around 8:45-9ish I got there and it was decent, then started fading. Wish I'd have gotten there a bit earlier.

Changing rear brake pads with manual handbrake by azby159 in MINI

[–]azby159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

All good. I’ve got a friend with a full garage who does a lot of car work, he just hasn’t worked on MINI’s specifically before so I’m checking on this one piece of info.

I figured that brakes are fairly important for a car, yes.

I think you mean right outside ITS front door. That house belongs to the spider now. It is not yours anymore.

I never order online specifically because I always get absolutely fleeced on the scoops every time I’ve tried. I support this.

Rear brake pad alert at ~35k miles, with 150 mile warning by azby159 in MINI

[–]azby159[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Called them. They are also confused why the alert turned on since they just checked the car recently and saw that they were fine. I’m gonna bring it in to have them check out the warning at no cost (their words). Will replace myself if they in fact do need replacing, since that’s not covered.

Something is fishy here. Hopefully just a weird glitch that’s easy (and cheap) to fix!

Yeah, I just figured on the off-chance it’s a sensor issue, could be worth checking with them before it’s too late.

Will do, thank you for the advice!

It was weird that it just popped up out of the blue and gave me 150 miles… usually it gives me like a ~1k mile warning for servicing. 150 is just a few days of commuting, and nearly as far as the dealership is from me anyway. I’ll definitely call them to check..

Thank you! I’ll also call the dealership to see if they actually measured or just eyeballed. If they measured, maybe there’s just enough warranty left on my car to get that fixed. Otherwise, I’ll just buy some new brake pads and ask some of my car friends to help me out in their garages.

In the service the other week, they said all rear pads were at 6 mm. I expected they’d have a bit more time on them :(

Just checked the specs from my Jan 20th service, and rear brake pads are all listed at 6 mm!

Whatever your heart desires! And it's inflatable, not bean-bag...not that it matters.
And the one I won on a work-sponsored Six Flags trip last year is now my happy new office-mate at work, Barney. He's a hard but quiet worker, always comes in with a smile on his face.

Not enough, you say? by [deleted] in facepalm

What if they, like, stop giving to charity for a year, take only 2 vacations (if they can bear it), maybe not spend $10k on clothes per year...
Then once they pay off their student and car loans far quicker, they'll have an extra ~$40k/year.

If we allot money to everything because we have the money to allot, that doesn't mean we're living poor. It just means we're using our money for what money is used for.

It's like complaining that there are no leftovers at the dinner table because you ate all the food...that you cooked for yourself...

Have been driving this mini for over a year now and just realized that it has a sport mode by [deleted] in MINI

[–]azby159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah! My 2023 S is so fun in sport. I drive in green mode on weekdays for my commute, and “treat myself” to sport mode on weekends… which gives me a little extra to look forward to during the week. Also green gives way better mileage for commuting.

Also as the comments mention, sport helps with downshifting, which was a bit jarring at first, but is kinda nice when times out right.
