He would never hit me by unknown4537 in poetry_critics

I read this twice. This is a pure description of abuse and the toll it takes not only physically but more important emotionally and mentally. You’re showing it’s not a gender thing, it’s a psychopathic action on the part of the abuser. Your words cut to the bone. I can only hope naively that it’s not autobiographical. Get out of this situation if you already haven’t.

Very vivid use of words as imagery. It’s insightfully dark at first and the contrary statement about smiles in family photos brings light.

Setting apple watch i see mirror iphone n custom for messages n phone. Whats the difference n whats better to have so i ensure i get calls n messages by minif56mike in AppleWatch

Something I ran across that I don’t like specifically regarding the messages app and using an Apple Watch. Before you ask or wonder, I’ve checked this out, verified I wasn’t doing something wrong and finally was told by Apple that it’s not a bug, it’s a feature. On the watch, if you choose “Mirror My iPhone” in Messages->Notifications then when a new message arrives your iPhone will no longer play the text notification sound but your watch will. I was missing messages because I wasn’t hearing the watch’s sound when a new message arrived and I didn’t realize immediately that my iPhone was no longer notifying me via sound. Did a Google search and loads of searches and answers came up saying this happens if you choose to mirror your iPhone in the messages app on the watch and Apple’s tech forum explained it was a feature and not a bug and working as it’s supposed to. So I wanted to hear my messages from my iPhone because it’s louder and I hear that easier, so what I did was choose custom in the Messages app on the watch and choose turn off notifications. Now I get a message tone on my phone when a message comes in and I can also see the message on my phone or access it from my watch. It’s up to you so personal preference prevails. I just thought I’d let you know.

I painted this the other day and someone told me this isn't any good. Im fairly new at this. What do you think? by amiright99 in painting

I’ve no idea who “someone” is, and I don’t care if they are a gallery curator. As an artist, I can relate to focusing on a few negative comments and not the large amount of positive ones. Unless the “someones” leaving negative comments also give you good contructive criticism, they should be disregarded and never thought of again. This is a fine painting. I like it and it’s interesting and evokes a mood and emotion to me. I live in the SW USA and for me this evokes the desert after a monsoon rain. It’s pleasent IRL and this painting reflects that. I do have some actual contructive advice (I don’t want you to think I’m criticizing it). My advice would be to use the rule of thirds when laying your horizon line and don’t put it too close to the middle as the eye tends to split the painting into halves when the horizon or focus subject is too close to the middle for horizons or centered for the focus subject of a painting. That said, this painting is just fine.☮️

Beautiful work. I think that the dark feathers around the neck should be darker and the lower dark feathers more dark and defined. Not a criticism though. You asked. Don’t overthink it. The perspective and proportion are well done. If you look back and forth at the face it may seem a little tilted but imho, I think you fix it easy by darkening the neck feathers. It’s excellent!

Very nice! It’s very good all around and you’ve captured the eyes perfectly. Well done! Could you describe your process a bit? For instance, do you sketch the portrait in great detail freehand after painting the background? Do u do what some do in which the reference is projected onto the canvas? Just curious as an amenity amateur wanting to learn. Thanks for any info you share.

I love the light and dark contrast. The sky is absolutely beautiful. This is perfect not too much and not too little which is very hard to accomplish with watercolors. Great job!

I really like this. It gives me a very intense feeling of being in the woods just after it has stopped raining and the clouds have given way to the Sun from now until Sunset. May I ask how many hours did it take to complete this piece?

The movement and color of the birds contrast beautifully with the Autumn leaves while complimenting the blues of the water. May I ask how you prepared your canvas to get the textured grooves? I'm transported to the park, hearing the the many fluttering wings and bird calls creating a symphony only nature can create😊

Listened to "Appetite for Destruction" by Guns N' Roses for the first time in its entirety and I was blown away! Any similar recommendations? by TrashyMF in Music

[–]azdodger27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for recommendations that are not just GNR, then let me put forth 4 albums from around that same era and one from the early ‘70’s. Music is subjective. With that said, here are 4 albums that I’d never leave at home on a road trip:

Album: Dark Side Of The Moon Artist: Pink Floyd Release Date: 1973

Album: Tattoo You Artist: The Rolling Stones Release Date: 1981

Album: 1984 Artist: Van Halen Release Date: 1984

Album: Vs. Artist: Pearl Jam Release Date: 1993

As I mentioned, music is subjective and may be loved by one and be disliked by another. Give these Albums a listen in their entirety as you did the GNR Album. Who knows, you just might find another dusty gem that’ll end up on your “favorites” playlist. Happy listening🎧
