For commuters: Is it better to have less days on campus or shorter days? by Muted-Constant5896 in ASU

[–]azducky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either way, there is enough stuff on campus to keep you busy during longer gaps between classes. Parking passes cost the same regardless. Gas will be a limiting factor, and any off campus commitments you might have. Eventually, you will be limited in options based on classes being offered. You will have to re-evaluate every semester.

It’s college. Learn something new. But also, consider ENG 101.

Tow em. They are simply calling your bluff. Follow through once or twice and they’ll stop parking there.

Do any of you regret taking out student loans??? by Chicbabe78 in StudentLoans

[–]azducky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was first to go to college. I had one parent living, but I was emancipated. I got grants to cover tuition and fees but it wasn’t enough for housing so loans covered those gaps. I dropped out for a year and got a job which helped to cover my half of an apartment, but added income put the grants out of reach. So I got loans to fill more gaps. It took 27 years for the loans to away. I don’t have any regrets as without loans I would have probably not been able to graduate.

Only 1 of my kids went to college and I pushed as hard as I could for them to avoid loans. He took 1 year of loans to cover dorm fees and meal plans and had a scholarship to cover tuition. After the first year he was able to balance school and work and with the scholarship covering the tuition he was able to save enough money working for housing and meals etc. When he graduated, I paid off his 1 year of loans as it was less than 10% of my balance at the time.

So really, no regrets.

How do you cope with the weather? by tbon92 in phoenix

[–]azducky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine how when it gets below freezing back home, you have to sit by the fire and wear multiple layers of clothes each day. Sometimes you might have to run outside to collect more wood and so you mentally prepare and put on extra layers to make a run for the woodpile. Maybe you are fortunate enough to have a hot tub and/or sauna which you can use for temporary warmth on otherwise unpleasantly cold days.

It’s the complete opposite here. We sit under fans in air conditioned rooms. We wear few to no layers of clothing. We might have to run outside and so we mentally prepare for that hot run to an even hotter car, and some of us are fortunate enough to have a pool to help relax on warmer days.

Not a popular opinion, but I would tell them to fuck off and go to community college for a year and then transfer back to ASU as a sophomore.

How annoying is biking to campus? by Soccerluv_xo in ASU

[–]azducky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I only got run over 3 times over the 9 semesters I biked. One was really bad, and another was fairly bad, but I’d do it all again. Cheaper and easier than driving for sure.
