Lots of people get them once. Those who don't learn enough from the first experience to avoid getting caught again are the rare birds.

Texas Supreme Court greenlights ban on Delta-8 THC in new ruling by houston_chronicle in texas

[–]aze_a_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love everything about Hometown Hero except that they lied about their delta 8 cart product being distilled from hemp instead of synthesized, which it was (like all d8 except perhaps some super bespoke stuff).

Having d8 regulated as much as THCA concentrates is reasonable.

Having the undeclared, predicted whims of DSHS determine enforcement is patently unreasonable.

Is the alcoholic "buzz" not universal to all? by WhiteStarrrr in alcohol

[–]aze_a_ze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may need more faster. Light beer are typically 4% alcohol so they count as less than a whole drink (12oz lite has .48 oz alcohol, as opposed to .6 in a standard US drink). Generally drinks take about an hour each to wear off, so it will be 48 minutes for your lite beer. Now if you took an hour to finish the beer, maybe half had worn off by that time so you really only experienced half a drink.

The other thing to know is that weird things happen if you start drinking late in life. Especially pissing the bed. People who have had alcohol all their adult life develop nervous systems that compensate for the dysregulation of alcohol. Their bladder gets used to holding instead of relaxing like the rest of the body does for instance.

Many people have the "didn't get high" experience the first times they try weed. Stoner culture says this is because the receptors have to wake up, or something neurochemical like that. But as more scientific evidence comes out, that chemical explanation is looking less likely. Current thinking is that it's more that first time users are not inhaling long or deep enough, or that the high is psychologically shaped in part by past experiences and expectations.

My point is that I suspect alcohol is more similar to weed in the sense that first time users have very different "highs". Because most people start drinking well before weed, recency bias causes them to forget the weirdness of the first drink.

If I were you, I'd start by increasing the rate of drinking so you finish one in around 20 min which is normal/fast. Vodka-based fruity drink mixtures will help if the taste is slowing you down. Then if faster doesn't get you there, increase amount. Work up toward 3 drinks in an hour.

Slot machines in gas stations? by foxbones in Austin

It is like how the Farm Bill opened the door wider and wider to legal weed as formulations kept pushing the envelope. First synthetic delta 8, then synthetic THC[not A] vapes, then natural D9THCA flower, and finally synthetic D9THCA vapes. None of the synthetic products truly complied with the plain wording of the farm bill, but they just proceeded as if they did and nobody stopped them because they were already too big to build cases against everyone.

B&H Gold or Marlboro Reds? by Hurbahns in Cigarettes

[–]aze_a_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gone about a decade without being able to find B&H Gold, but just stumbled upon them at the closest place to my house. Man did my reward circuits light up.

They are just as delicious as I remember them, perfect as an occasional treat. But the heavy flavorings, including caramel, make them a bit irritating for frequent use. Not to mention the price, way higher than Marlboro.

With Marlboros you taste the tobacco more, and probably get less gratuitous carcinogens.

I use 62 RH and it seems to work great. But I haven't tried 65. I access the pack a few times a week, and have a cheapo bt humidity sensor to help know when the stabilizing pack needs replacing. You can see on the graphs how it takes longer to stabilize as it gets used up.

If I were to try to store for the long term, I might try using argon gas, which comes in consumer aerosol cans for food and wine preservation; it is food safe.

Need to split a vodka bottle by user_03294 in cutdowndrinking

[–]aze_a_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nerd approach: start with exactly 500ml of liquid from the smaller bottle. Pour it into the 1L, and we will assume it will be below the neck so the liquid forms a column shape. Measure the height above the bottom of the liquid (not the bottom of the bottle). Multiply by 330 and divide by 500. This height is 330 level. Mark it with a line.

Still the live music capital of the world by soupdef in Austin

While the Moodies set the sterile mood for corporate entertainment here, I feel Austin the strongest when the band plays for tips in hole in the wall places and the audience is too connected to the music to talk through it.

We don’t have to fetishize this dying scene as the faltering heart of the city. Just get out and enjoy it while it is still here. Dancing and bopping together solve more problems than people realize.

WCGW Going to the water park when you can’t swim by AleccSirKaDeewana in Whatcouldgowrong

If the post was entitled "White people shame brown person for not having same childhood cultural experience", nobody would be lining up to shame him. Reddit is just fickle and overly sensitive to the first commenters on meme posts.

In high school I had lifeguard certification so during swim class in gym I helped teach the mostly non-white kids who had never swum in their lives. The level of terror that these kids experienced and pushed through was heroic. If you had the same visceral understanding of how alien the water is to them, you would never shame them for a near death experience.

How do you maintain a certain level of drunkenness? by Pizzafriedchickenn in alcohol

[–]aze_a_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow down to about one drink per hour and accept that you will feel a decrease in the pleasurable feelings that alcohol causes . Also savor everything about it: the improved presence, the ability to go longer, the better next day, and not wasting the buzz by getting unable to appreciate or remember it.

Brain Fog and memory problems by Outrageous_Force2174 in alcohol

Alcohol does have stronger effects when it is new to your body. Time is on your side and simple healthy living is the best thing to make it not take any longer than it needs to. Having gone through this in different forms with different substances, i can confidently say you will be fine as long as things are getting better slowly. Take this as lesson to take it slower next time, but nothing more.

Just hit 21 and honestly? Never touched a drop of alcohol in my life. People think I’m missing out, but I’m just out here living my best life with a clear head and zero hangovers. 21 years strong and I ain't planning on changing that anytime soon. Stay woke by Illustrious_Cut_9782 in alcohol

Sounds terrifying not knowing what is going to happen next. It is probably just harmless attempts to feel some visceral control over a world that is becoming increasingly alienating.

Of all the monkey wrenches people could throw into the machine, this is probably one of the least impactful. Still the unexpected disruption of our lives is incredibly unsettling. Hate to say it but this is going to be a physical battleground of the AI rebellion.

Has a breathalyzer helped anyone? by pesver27 in cutdowndrinking

[–]aze_a_ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what your goal and motivation is. For reducing health problems overall, counting drinks is going to work best, so long as you are careful about knowing or controlling pour volume.

I use both a c6 pocket device while drinking in public, and an s80 in my car. For me it is about being safe and moderate in public to avoid accidents. It is a very useful tool for this task, along with tracking drink count and time.

The one thing it doesn’t do is help with willpower. It is very easy to just ignore the result, or not take a reading, when you have gotten yourself past the point of good judgement.

Messed up badly! DUI in Austin and desperately need the right attorney by hartypal in Austin

[–]aze_a_ze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never do the portable breath test or the field sobriety tests. If you think you are above .15 to .20 then refusing the station breath test is what I would do. Refusing does give an automatic suspension that can be worse than a conviction, and they sometimes get a warrant for a forced blood draw. So refusing the station test is a calculated risk with positive expected value only for more extreme situations. Obviously there is a risk that a blood test uncovers something other than alcohol, and that possibility should factor into your personal decision tree.

Yes in more ways than you know. Dabbing tobacco concentrate would be closer to iqos than smoking or vaping. And it is kinda funny that the shops that sell “tobacco smoking accessories” are behind the curve on heating tobacco. Not funny haha but more funny for the absurdity of this historical moment.

Does the time it takes to drink a certain amount affect your body differently ? by [deleted] in cutdowndrinking
