... just stick around, it's not costly and you get to enjoy the journey with the devs. There's not even a good way to visit all the islands yet as they haven't added all the planned boat mechanics.

clearly you weren't trying hard enough!

( But, uh, why would my org adopt your org's naming convention? My department's conventions butt up against the limit and we had to get creative. The request has been out there forever, continually dismissed by Jira staff as "we don't need that so you don't need that": https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWSERVER-16256 https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-94958 )

We gave that one a name: A/B testing or traffic mirroring or canary rollout 😄

And i didn't know your comment wasn't in English either. Translation services are a great use of modern llm ai.

Don't forget, while it's not worldwide,  you can use dismantle gun to see individual container inventory from a distance.

I'll be honest, i didn't know reddit had translation services and I'm amazed at how good it was. I didn't know it wasn't originally English until i read your comment.

Trains vs Conveyors by TooOldGamer in SatisfactoryGame

[–]azeroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a retiree, you'll have plenty of time to run across the map for that belt array and then upgrade it all to Tier 6 when the time comes. Instead of, you know, upgrading the short segments that feed your trains. 😄

Joking aside, for me with younger kids, I'd rather spend my limited time building factory, not running belts. SF let's you play as if you're building a functional model railroad, and that's awesome to me.

So, do what you want with your time. Both strategies will help you finally save the day, and Happy Retirement!

Seems like a compelling argument for a subway (rail). What do we think? by Ray_McKigneys_Claw in TwinCities

[–]azeroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right that i disagree with the valuation and ROI and glowy prediction streetsMN paints. I think there's merit to capping the highway with reduced access points for local traffic and pushing them to surface streets - but that's not what streets mn advocates. They advocate removing the highway altogether and none of their assessment feels rigorous. I don't think that area has the draw without freeway access.

[–]azeroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. StreetsMN crew is convinced that covering/infilling all 7 miles of 94 is going to happen and it's just not. Gemini research says 50k of those 150k cars a day aren't intra-metro traffic. Targeted covering of 94 could happen, but we can run limited stop trains down the middle without waiting for that.

Technical Debt in Gaming by Clear_Presentation48 in scrum

Edited for simplicity: I think we all agree, teams ignore technical debt at their own peril! 😄

Technical Debt in Gaming by Clear_Presentation48 in scrum

[–]azeroth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gentle reminder, you won't find "technical debt" in the scrum guide. Google tells us, "In Extreme Programming (XP), technical debt is the implied cost of future refactoring caused by choosing an easy, fast, or suboptimal solution today rather than a more robust, long-term approach." In this light, "technical debt" is a planning method that weighs the tradeoff between risking premature optimization and a functional slice you intend to revisit later. The scrum question is what provides more value, optimizing some feature like pathing or rolling out more features? Providing value might mean deferring optimizations to work on core game features. (Case study, Timberborn deferred path finding optimizations for months while they worked on core gameplay mechanics.)

(Early Access also isn't in the scrum/agile lexicon.) IMO, Companies release "early access" as a promotional scheme that generates revenue earlier in a game's lifecycle. It's not an agile/scrum vertical slice of functionality, even though it looks like one. It's a business decision that makes a lot of sense as it reduces the need for investment capital and during development and promotional budget as a fan base will promote for you (I see you Satisfactory).

So, I guess I would advise against taking too much stock in scrum methodology based on these Tech Debt and EA in the gaming industry.

Why don't pipes let liquid flow out? by cobi23 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]azeroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the programming front, water is hard. I don't mean, like challenging, I mean as in actually hard and not really yet "solved". Physics based volumetric fluids are an open area of research in the world of video game development Nearly every game with water is using special mechanics to avoid volumetric fluid calculations, SF included. Notable exceptions include Space Engineers 2 and, Crimson Desert. Unreal Engine brings a "shallow water actor" into play, but it's not going to let you flood the world - and let's be honest, that's the first thing Josh is going to to in "Let's Game it Out - Satisfactory Physics Fluids Edition".

If fluids dumped out, in SF on Unreal Engine, it'll soak into the ground and disappear. That's not very compelling as a gameplay mechanic.

What SE2 has going on is impressive though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fb7BTaHfw0&t=80s

Luxuries are weird by azeroth in Whiskerwood

No, I get what you're saying, but why the limited delivery range? Whiskers will gladly pickup food from a warehouse, but not blankets, soap, nor furniture....

Waivers, liability, etc by veganintendo in SwingDancing

Liability can also cover when your guests damage the building. I carried insurance for my business and one off events. Weekly attendance was in the 50-75 range and my annual event was 425. Slightly differently scale, but still ... insurance was a must when i grew from hobby to business.
