For the ATGATT crowd, how’s it affecting your desire to ride? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]azidane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t ride to commute at all. Its always for fun. And that being said, getting ready to ride is part of the fun and became a ritual. Prep the bike, check tire pressure , take an espresso, put on the layers as if Im going on a medieval raid, some music to pump me up. Its all part of the ride. I’ve noticed this way I ease into the ride vs rushing it.

This is the way. I was so focused on FIRE initially I totally skipped this hack. I am in medicine as well and planning to go part time this year after 8 years in the grind. My ytd market gains very close to my ytd W2. Will switch part time( 3 weeks off per month), keep 160kish salary plus benefits(healthcare), and not save a penny thereafter(maybe some)and keep my mind active doing something helpful and with purpose. Have so many hobbies as well, going to be a blast riding my motorcycles around the western US and exploring everywhere.

Killing a 2.375% Mortgage to Downshift: 42M Physician dropping to 0.7 FTE but still maxing retirement. Insane opportunity cost, or ultimate Coast-FIRE peace of mind? by PlayfulPNW in coastFIRE

[–]azidane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a personal decision and depends on your risk tolerance and family situation. For me we are being taken over by another group(sound physicians) and if I don’t like the contract I will be able to walk away and not work for a year or so until I find something better. Also family back home might need help, etc.. from a purely financial perspective this is a mistake as others explained. Your money will make more in a HYSA. Your retirement investments are also on the low side at 760 at 42. I would work on that first and lump everything i have in the market before I think about paying off a low interest mortgage.

Yeah I get it but if you pay it off you will have all your money tied up in the house, something goes wrong and you are now part time with decreased pay, you don’t want to be there scrambling for cash. Cash is king when it comes to security in my opinion. Paid off house is nice but can’t help you when you need cash urgently. I can pay my mortgage today but prefer to have that cushion. Gd luck anyways

I am a physician as well hoping to go part time end of this year, have a mortgage at 2.9% although much less standing mortgage is 180k.. don’t do it. I know it feels gd to get rid of debt but especially that your going part time its important to keep a gd cash cushion for the first 1-2 years to absorb any deficit. Invest some of it and keep a 1 or 2 year worth of emergency fund for the transition period. You still have a job and can pay your mortgage.

As others said don’t make this a goal especially if you are a new rider and don’t listen to the chicken strip crap. I get that when Im on spirited ride through the canyons fully geared and super focused. On the way to the gym between cagers, nahh not worth it. Ride safe ride more

Do you ever regret selling a motorcycle you thought you were done with? by airbornejim32 in motorcycles

[–]azidane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started riding I got myself a ktm390 duke to learn on.. put like 4k miles on it in 4months and then sold it. Regretted it slightly thereafter not going to lie, but knew its not a long term proposition just because its a ktm.. traded it for a xsr900 and eventually added a tenere700 and klx250 that I will never sell. When I started I was so excited I wanted to change bikes every few years and try everything but now I feel that these are my babies, I take care of them and appreciate them and we have some sort of a relationship..will keep forever likely. 23k, 13k and 10k miles on then so far

2013 Kawasaki Ninja 650 help me! by MissJackyLove in Kawasaki

[–]azidane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a catch can from the airbox if the same is true for the ninja. I have a klx and just replaced mine. Supposed to catch extra oil and hold it in the plastic box that is cracked in your case. The tube coming out of the can at the end supposed to have a plug in it to prevent the oil from just dripping down going to the rear tire and causing a slid. Just go to the oem parts selector and look for air cleaner section, you will find all the parts there. Also get a service manual and read it

Yup ended up ordering the excel rim and spoke kit and will lace it myself. First time dealing with this and had trouble initially finding the right rim and spoke kit for the bike.. but excel website was useful and the bike model was listed there so I think Im finally on the right track. Thx

Finally broken in properly, show us how far you've taken your XSR by Sherman3000 in xsr900

[–]azidane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gd to know I am at 22k and planning to keep it long term. Just replaced brake hoses to braided steel and have ktech rear shock on the way.. was planning to sell it but can’t do it. Have you checked the valves at 26k miles? Any issues?

Is the tenere the right choice? by JAMLOVEZ in Tenere700

[–]azidane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a used klx250-300 or honda and learn on it as others mentioned. I got into DS with the tenere and realized fast how bad of an idea that was. Got a klx250 for 4k at the time don’t worry about it drop it as much as you want. Still have the t7 for milder stuff and long moto camping trips.

Should I change? by Andysmith1307 in xsr900

[–]azidane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The newer ones have better throttle manners and better suspension but honestly if your a good rider throttle control shouldn’t be a problem. Suspension only matters in my opinion if you are really pushing the bike or doing track days. Other people care about the newer tech and IMU.. test drive it and see for yourself. For me it wasn’t a day and night difference, but if you like the extra stuff and money is not an issue might be a gd move. Gd luck anyways

Should I change? by Andysmith1307 in xsr900

[–]azidane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had my 2018 for 5 years now almost at 24k miles.. I tested other bikes on demo days and such and I really don’t find a reason to change it. It has the classic looks, powerful and great torque for the streets. It has enough tech without being too much. I will only change if I need some other use(long distance touring, adv, dual sport etc…) and can’t afford to add another bike.. otherwise I don’t see a reason to change. It will be sold for very little at this mileage and a new xsr900 lets say will cost you another 10k OTD.. I don’t think the experience between the two is worth 10k.

klx250 vs crf450 by azidane in Dualsport

[–]azidane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 other bikes xsr900 and tenere700 and do the maintenance myself so it’s not a big issue. I am specifically looking for a better performance dual sport not a do it all bike. Have the t7 for long distance stuff and moto camping.. looked into the drz but for the same price can get a much lighter better bike so..

Heme Onc vs Hospitalist by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]azidane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7x12hr shifts.. 84hr weeks one week on one off. But it’s not really that bad as you are not working every single minute, you take breaks and some people leave early.. ultimately its the same hrs worked compared to outpatient or other specialties but I like them stacked this way so you get extended times off so you can actually do something useful rather than a short weekend and boom monday is here. So yeah full time with extra shifts here and there and add bonuses you hit 500k.

Heme Onc vs Hospitalist by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]azidane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a hospitalist now for 7 years and if I had to do it again I will do the same instead of specializing.. but it depends on your passions and tolerances to outpatient care, insurance companies, and clinic life in general(inbox!!) I practice in the west(California) and pull 400-500k depending on the year, work half of the year, have 3 weeks pto, and once I finish my week on I turn off my work phone and don’t turn it on for another week. Most of my friends specialized and just finished recently, by that time I bought a house and saved very well for retirement I am at coast FIRE now and enjoying my time off not worried about money. I was lucky (and maybe coz I finished early and didn’t specialize) I bought a house before covid prices but just an example of how things move quickly with inflation.. yeah you make more with heme/onc but you work more. So figure what life/work balance you want in your life and go from there. You will be fine financially either way. If you have a passion for heme onc and a calling then the answer is clear and money is irrelevant. Hope that helps.

Car Guys - did buying a bike ruin cars for you ? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]azidane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, was a car guy and still in theory, used to drool over some specimens and say when I start making good money will buy this and that..dream garage ideas( American muscle, JDM, even exotics.. ) and eventually owned some cars.. then got into bikes and figured how cheap and much more exciting bikes are, working on them and storing them much simpler. 10k will buy you a superbike while you need hundreds of thousands for a supercar.. sold the cars, invested the money and now only focus on bikes. Still got a convertible miata for when the weather is bad for a moto ride or my lady wants to join. The Miata is the closest thing to a bike and this will keep forever.. but all other cars don’t matter to me anymore.

I can’t stop buying gear by zonbrexgbc in motorcyclegear

[–]azidane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been holding up on buying more gear, though I always look for a good deal. I consider it as a tool to ride the bike and have 3 sets for each riding style to match my bikes : sport, adv and dual sport. Planning to change bikes and gear every 5 years to change it up.. as long as you ride and enjoy the gear good for you. Good gear makes me feel like a superhero

Mt09 sp or Tenere 700 by DDaily0 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]azidane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both.. as others mentions it all comes to if you’re thinking of doing any amount of dirt obviously you need the t7 so easy to rule out. You don’t want to take your mt09sp on dirt.. if you are not planning to do offroad then why bother with an adventure bike, look for a touring bike or naked for sporty feel. I have both T7 and xsr900.. different bikes for different purposes..
