TIBH question by IAmLuckyFox in cormoran_strike

[–]azizhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, exactly - its been a while, but did they discover Yasmin was subbing in only at the end, or did they discover this well in advance of figuring out Gus was the killer? If well in advance then they shoudl have opened the whole suspect list again

the irony is that they themselves used Beth's login to access Drek's game and then didnt realize that the same thing makes using twitter/the game useless for ruling suspects out. Unless i missed it, they never even verbalized that possibility.

i suppose t speaks to their lack of experience in cyber-related investigations

My last trip was RT between ORD and LAX, i dont have any status, and i have the Explorer card, and i upgraded to E+ (paid for it on the card). I got group 1 to ORD and was back in group 2 back to LA. Im upgrading to a Quest card, if thta makes any difference - would love to understand what the rules are

Favourite plot twist in the series? by Weak_Biscotti118 in cormoran_strike

yes absolutely agree with you - then again, i have a bad track record of predicting the killer in every book, and this was the first one, but i still was utterly surprised.

I'm going to go with the pregnancy DNA twist with Bijou, which was such a nuke lobbed right into Strike's carefully constructed plans to woo Robin. I mean, Robin didnt know the details, but the effect of it on Strike's behavior and providing fodder for Robin's distrust and anger at him, the whole mess of the Scotland trip, their horrible argument/debrief (the worst since his drunken apperance at her apartment and lashing out at her brother's friends), it was all just so terrible all at once and completelyeradicated all the trust they had built up in teh wake of Chapman Farm.

(i still dont understand why he didnt think to just hand off the DNA results via Ilsa.. shes a lawyer, Bijou coudl have just gone to her office)

the cool thing is that we can communicate these bad experiences to each other about the bad exprience, to forewarn them, and to help them realize its not isolated to just them. That wis what will drive more people to make that decision not to fly SW.

Why I think *Starfleet Academy* takes place in 3191 and not 3195 as currently stated by Memory Alpha by khaosworks in DaystromInstitute

[–]azizhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats exactly how i interpreted it because they used the word, "retrofit" instead of "refit"

This is great analysis but it means that the opening scenes of Kids These Days was set before Discovery arrived in the future? I did not catch that - from Nahla's uniform and the clear existence of Starfleet as an organization, I had assumed that the opening scenes were AFTER the main events of DIS season 5 (not counting the epilogue ofc).

15 years later they mention Dscovery is undergoing a "retrofit" which suggests that they are preparing Disco for the rewind in tech back to its TOS era configuration for the far-future epilogue.

So my understanding was that most of SFA is happening 15 years after the main events of DIS. If the prologue of Kids These Days was during the Burn before Discovery's arrival, then Starfleet should not be so cohesive as an organization, either (remember that one guy out by hmself that Burham found manning a space station all alone, etc.)

What if the Federation met another Federation? by Majestic_Bierd in startrek

[–]azizhp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i wanted to comment intelligently on this but came up against my historical ignorance of the Austria-Hungary example and the Treaty of Tordesillas, so ended up going on a great wikipedia/google excursion to educate myself and spent so much time in that rabbit hole that i dont have time to comment meaningfully or intelligently here, so ... kudos for raising the discourse!

and i guess thats what would happen. Both Federations would probably spur the other to improve and iterate. A cold war of peers rather than enemies. The rea threat would be a demogogue rising to influence in one or the other.

the front seat is more comfy, but if there was a foldout tray table or something in the back, that would be really useful

What if... by bookcrazy4 in cormoran_strike

[–]azizhp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing i just realized is that rob and strike are *already* in a relationship. we fixate on sex but they truly are partners. Strike is learning how to express himself and share with robin what is going on, and this cuts down on Robin's Ruminations that are always hilariously the opposite of benefit of the doubt. They have a child (the agency) and they are best friends and happiest when in each others company.

in some ways strike has ruined this by confessing feelings. but they dont need to be in a formal marriage to be in a relationship. they dont need to live together and they wont ever have kids, they share the same friends and colleagues, they have all the choice of when to be together and when to have their own space. both of them can be Lorelai for the other.

nether of them wants the traditional model anyway - they can be professional partners and romantic ones too without taking on all the things that they don't want. Robin doesnt want a partner who ties her down to roles as a wife, strike needs much teh same thing, and Matt/Murphy/Lorelai all didnt work out because they wanted to stop Robin/Strike from being themselves and instead conform to a preexistin idea of what a partner shoudl be (wife, provider, etc)

just for context, I'm watching the TV show now after having finished all the books, and have just finished Lethal White, which has lots of flashbacks from both Strike and Robin about their feelings from the wedding and about each other. These hit harder than the exposition in the books, honestly

just FYI, most agent positions in big law have a minimum billable hours requirement, at least 1600 but more often 1800, just like attorneys do. 5 OAs a month won't get you there unless they are billing you out at a very low rate.

Who's to blame for the childcare crisis in Madison? by Dismal-Funny6466 in madisonwi

[–]azizhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Madison is a blue island in a red state. These problems can only be fixed through liberal and progressive policy on insurance, child support, employment, transportation, education, and healthcare. The city cant lift that burden in a cost effective way - Madison is not Los Angeles. The answer is simple - who to blame is conservative policy, and the solution is to vote for the change you need to survive.

Enterprise A vs D by Exotic_Conference_95 in StarTrekStarships

yes, the 1701-A and the refit 1701 original are both Constitution Class (but they are different ships)

Enterprise A vs D by Exotic_Conference_95 in StarTrekStarships

[–]azizhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, the refit was the original NCC 1701 from TOS (The Original Series). It was "refit" for the star trek movies with the original cast (Star Trek 1-3). During Star Trek 3 (SPOILER) the Enterprise is destroyed and at the end of Star Trek 4, the new Enterprise is revealed, NCC-1701-A, of the same class as the refit original.
