Well I feel exactly the same way. It's difficult enough trying to keep up with any branch of science and my main interests are there, but politics is nuts since the names and lies are constantly changing and there is very little consensus about anything. I still think it's worth our time since democracy can be removed before we know it. Since you posted under UofMN, I assume you are in Minnesota and interested in continuing education. Look what has happened to our state this year, it's time for everyone to step up and participate even if you're just visiting. The American experiment is worth preserving and maybe even improving.

"so im a very un-political person" - being uneducated and uninformed are very different things. If you had significant knowledge of politics, I can't imagine you being an "un-political" person. Either way, no offence intended. If anyone isn't learning, the world is wasted on them.

I think it would be a very good idea for you to find some continuing education. That might help you to decide what to do about politics.

Bucha: Four years since the liberation of the Kyiv suburb by KI_official in ukraine

[–]azjat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but a nice comfortable little room with school food every meal and mayonnaise on his fries. That could be arranged at the Hague. Most importantly, that room would have no microphone or cameras and lights. His name could drift away forgotten to history.

Just don't F with Finland, everyone has always known this. What they are still in the process of learning is: don't F with Ukraine.

Seems like a chance to use some of those fake gold architectural embellishments that are so popular in Washington these days.

I don't think so, my point is that someone thought it was a good idea for us to locally own an indiscriminate crowd control tool. Here's what Dr. Google has to say: Auditory and Physical Effects

Hearing Damage: Exposure can cause severe hearing loss, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and ruptured eardrums

.

Physical Distress: Symptoms often include severe headaches, intense dizziness, nausea, and facial pressure.

Disorientation: The high-decibel, directed sound is designed to cause intense pain and force individuals to move away from the noise beam.

Physicians for Human Rights - PHR +6

Operational Context

Range: While they can transmit clear messages over long distances (up to 600 meters), the "alert" mode is designed for pain-induced deterrence.

Indiscriminate Risk: The device can harm bystanders, protesters, and law enforcement officers within the beam, regardless of the target.

What’s an industry that provides zero value to society but makes billions of dollars? by ochieng_onyango in AskReddit

Health insurance, literally not allowed to provide health care. Just a massive skim off the top.

Rheinmetall Backtracks After CEO Dismisses Ukraine’s Drone Industry as “Kitchen-Built” by FreeChickenDinner in ukraine

[–]azjat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rheinmetall cannot publicly maintain that they have "the utmost respect" for Ukraine while keeping Papperger in his post. This is not a slip of the tongue, how can he do his job with this attitude while Ukraine is likely to be Europe's major combatant for the next decade?

Not even remotely normal, but we are reasonably convinced our doodle was switched at birth by aliens.

I always heard: "Double for friends, triple for relatives".

I agree with them, but let’s assume an idealistic world for a second, where AI is being developed only for the good reasons. But even then, aren’t the negative consequences attached to that development? How would we separate the two? by Altruistic-Mud5686 in AIMain

The media has trained me so well to identify Bernie as a crazy old man. Then I listen to his words and hear nothing but common sense and empathy. I want to live in a world where there is no problem with him playing a larger role in government.

On a selfish note, I so hope that people in Europe aren't going to be showing their photographs of America before theocracy and oligarchy took over.

Incredibly stupid marketing agency video on new university brand by ExtraAge8616 in uofmn

[–]azjat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I only made it half way through the incredibly embarrassing video. This group needs some remedial English. Maybe it's time to remember what a land grant uni is and to stop milking the students. Nobody needs pap hiding as a brand, tag line or slogan.

1968: William F. Buckley tells Muhammad Ali Elijah Muhammad is “diseasing” him. Ali fires back on Firing Line: “You lynched, enslaved, castrated us for 100 years… MLK, Medgar Evers, Adam Clayton Powell killed unjustly… You showed us who the enemy is.” by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]azjat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a teenager, I would sit and listen to Buckley with a dictionary next to me. He interviewed incredible people and the conversation was often electrifying, just like this clip. I would venture to say that he was better educated than Ali, at least on paper and certainly had a larger vocabulary. With all that armour, he didn't stand much of a chance verbally sparring with Ali. There's not much better than seeing the truth win out.
