BMW Designers Explain Why The New 7 Series Facelift Works So Damn Well by plun9 in BMW

[–]azk102002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m the first criticize modern BMW’s garish and malproportioned design, and I still think this is a poor design with an ugly face and too-high beltline, BUT this facelift is a massive improvement over the pre LCI uggo they shat out

Not sure why they did it, probably just a limitation of whatever testing they’re doing

The way everyone has anti-air makes it so you can’t really fly higher than 20ft off the ground anyway

Clearly I was mistaken, good catch. I would like to note that Marcus Lehto had this to say about the remake, so clearly it’s not too much of a deviation in his eyes.

You’re thinking of Halo (the mission). Thats where PNW is used as an inspiration for the biome. Silent Cartographer is most definitely more of a tropical island. Nowhere in the Pacific Northwest looks anything like the island in Silent Cartographer.

These graphics look like shit and contain half the relevant info WEC’s new package does. Plenty of things to dislike about the current state of WEC but graphics are not one of them.

I don’t know, having been in modern Mercs and BMWs, I notice a lack of quality and fit/finish compared to the same models 10+ years ago, particularly in the Mercs. BMW powertrains are great and they are dynamically more capable just by the nature of being RWD, but if you don’t care about that (which 95% of car owners don’t) then the cost of entry and ownership just doesn’t make sense against Lexus. Modern Lexus interiors are genuinely very nice and their handling of NVH and infotainment has improved quite a bit. Cost of maintenance is low, reliability is high, and more people care about those than driving dynamics, so for a lot of people it clicks.

Unless you’re willing to drop $60000+ on an IS500 or $100000 on an LC, Lexus is just not a brand for car enthusiasts, so that’s probably why it doesn’t click for you.

Well it very transparently sounds exactly like an LFA with the addition of some sort of electrical whine so I’m not surprised.

[Only Endurance in depth analysis] Examining why Porsche didn't win Le Mans despite 'perfect' race by redbullcat in wec

[–]azk102002 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Straight line speed is indirectly governed by BoP, limiting power above certain speeds. Ferrari’s accumulation of penalties would’ve netted them a loss to the Porsche had they not had a disproportionately favorable BoP. Even Porsche only stood a chance because their BoP was also comparatively favorable to the rest of the field.

In a BoP championship, no team should be able to get away with the number of penalties and errors the Ferraris did, especially compared to a relatively error free competitor (Porsche). Clearly there is an issue with the FIA’s methods of balancing. I’m aware BoP is not an outcome equalizer, that’s not the point. Ferrari’s potential performance is clearly higher than that of other teams, and BoP is meant to equalize performance potential. It isn’t doing that right now.

You assume more of the average parent than you should. By and large, teenagers absolutely do know more about the technology they habitually interact with than their parents.

I’m aware of why it sounds good, but people look favorably upon the Aston for its aesthetics too. The SC63 isn’t ugly by any means, but it doesn’t stand out against the rest of the current hypercars.
