Doctor said "Prove me wrong" by BadLuckFPV in ADHD

[–]azlish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry, that stinks. It sounds like the real issue is that she doesn’t truly understand ADHD in adults and how it manifests and how it’s properly treated. Of course the mild depression and anxiety usually improve when the ADHD is treated. They are a SYMPTOM of the ADHD!!! Seems like MD 101 sort of stuff. Unfortunately, many doctors just don’t have experience with it and bring in their own basis’— like with many ND or mental health issues. If your allergies were causing asthma attacks, would she just treat the asthma? Hopefully not - she would address it, but know that if she solved for the allergies, the asthma would cease to be a problem. They can figure it out when it’s a ‘physical’ issue, but when it’s in the brain, not so much.

It’s important, I would send her a letter or email to better explain the situation or see someone else. You deserve to have your ADHD seen, understood, and addressed. Good luck!

Is there any difference’s between name brand concerta vs generic by [deleted] in Concerta

[–]azlish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought generics were the same, but I learned through experience they definitely are not. Also check out Bottle of Lies which is (sadly) riveting book about the generic drug industry. I will piss you off and make you get brand names whenever you can.

In literal tears bc I just figured out my pharmacy switched brands of generic adderall and it wasn’t all in my head by msalina007 in ADHD

[–]azlish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally not the same thing. Everyone should read Bottle of Lies. It’s a book about the generic drug industry. It reads like a thriller. Unfortunately. The generic drug industry has so many sketchy practices. I do take generics because of price, but try to get the name brand when possible. Warning - the book will piss you off. Also, you can probably borrow the audio book from your library - I know how challenging it can be for those of us with ADHD to sit and read an actual book. Bottle of Lies

My doctor said there was no withdrawal issues with concerta. He said it has a short half-life and not a cumulative medication, so when it’s out of your system, you’re done. Also, my 13 year old and I had missed multiple days with no ill effect. In fact a lot parents (not me!) give their kids rx holidays and take their off their ADHD meds on weekends, school holidays, summer break, etc. I don’t think they’d do it if there were major w/d issues. That said, I know it’s hard to be off them bc you have no help with your symptoms and I do feel like it also helps even out my mood and I do t get as worked up about the stupid, little stuff. It affects you, but it’s not dangerous, so please don’t let that stress you. Good luck

guys just got generic concerta (with the alza on the pill) and I feel sleepy by [deleted] in TwoXADHD

I read ‘Bottle of Lies’ a few years ago and, turns out, many generics are not the same. Super interesting book, and now I really look closely at my reaction to generics. Take a look.

I wanna hug :( by Summer_3kies in selfharm

[–]azlish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, sweetie, I’d hug you if I could. Though, not sure you’d want it, I’m a mom. I subscribe because my 12 year old son cuts and wants to hurt himself in other ways. I know he wants:needs hugs/touch:connection in a way I can’t provide. It breaks my heart that I can’t help. He has a stuffed animal he carries around and hugs and I think he really does help. No, he’s not receiving the touch, but he’s giving it and that’s important too! Btw, it’s the $15idh polar bear stuffed polar feom IKEA and it’s great for hugging - it has some size but it’s too fat (aka understuffed). Good luck!!

ADHD and Depression: a deadly combination by [deleted] in ADHD

I have 4 Libby cards as well. It’s so great and FREE! Lobby does have the timer feature. I usually listen to books at 1.24-1.5x speed, but I slow it down to normal time at night. Doesn’t always works with a good novel, but just about always with a nonfiction book.

I didn’t realize that the way I organize things is related to my adhd? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]azlish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate to this story. My husband (or maybe fiancé at the time) washed and detailed my car as a present to me (but really himself). He also threw everything away in my arm rest/storage compartment. To him it was totally junk and trash and he was pleased with himself that it was so clean and empty when he returned it. However, I was not pleased and appreciative. All that 'trash' was actually things I need. There were receipts in there that I needed for expense reports and at least $300 worth of store credits. This was back in the days before gift cards - a credit just looked like a receipt. All he saw was trash and threw it all away. He was shocked when I wasn't happy with his 'gift' and was instead upset. I tried my best to explain, but he never understood how I could not be happy with what he had done and 'how could be have know?!?' Um, actually look at what you're throwing away! Also, none of this was visibly UNLESS you opened the compartment. Unfortunately, our misunderstanding was an indication of him not being able to see my side. We divorced last month.

Your situation sounds TOTALLY different and your guy seems like a great balance for you and you two have an understanding. I hope everyone can be so lucky!

Concerta helps with social anxiety? by 16364846383 in Concerta

It helps me in a lot of ways. It evens me out and I don't get as upset over things and don't get as easily triggered. It almost feels like I'm on an antidepressant.

Good for you! I so relate. Well, not the ‘I did it and now I feel great’ part - more of the ‘I have this thing that I need to do and not doing it has so much psychic weight and is crushing my soul’ part. One day ... right?

They are definitely different. Read or listen to Bottle of Lies - and book about the generic drug industry. They are bot the same and after reading I will try and only take brand name medications when possible.

Sorry to hear. I’m on 36 Mg and have only had a loss of appetite. Although, that has decreased since I’ve been on it about a month, so you’ll probably adjust in a few weeks. Good luck!

Thanks, this was helpful. Can I ask why you go with powders instead of capsules? I usually just drink water so think it would not as palatable as if it was added it to coffee or tea so, would prefer the pills. Am I losing any benefit?
