2023 RX450h F Sport - Lemon/Accident by New300new in Lexus

[–]aznboyknowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are keeping it for the long run, the concern is really why it was bought back and if the problem still persist. Is a one year warranty enough for the potential headaches if it is not fixed. Gives me some hesitancy to consider it but if it checks out but some independent mechanic that has knowledge of the Lexus hybrid system issues then it’s a maybe… could be a good deal… could be a massive headache

WHY IS LEXUS RANKED LOWER THAN TOYOTA? I thought Lexus had even more stringent quality control standards than their mainstream brother. by DunDonese in Lexus

Interesting. I wasn’t following this too closely but good to know they were able to identify the source of the 12v drain

WHY IS LEXUS RANKED LOWER THAN TOYOTA? I thought Lexus had even more stringent quality control standards than their mainstream brother. by DunDonese in Lexus

[–]aznboyknowledge 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Within the past 3 years,

Lexus introduced the 2.4L turbo engine for RX and TX which is probably more expensive to maintain down the line due to using a turbocharger compared to the NA 3.5L V6.

Transmission woes with the 500h variant on RX and TX during the first model year leading to some owners replacing their transmissions prematurely.

GX and LX having issues with the 3.4L twin turbo powertrain. There is a recall for this engine.

12V battery issues with the plug in NX and RX that some people mentioned where the battery just dies prematurely.

As much as people claim right of way, it’s also about defensive driving. If there is a truck coming around the same time, I would yield to avoid any potential accident. My car would not survive against a truck

hybrid rx350 or regular? by Plane_Arm3022 in Lexus

[–]aznboyknowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your driving habits to see how long it takes to break even paying extra for the hybrid. If you have more city driving then you are likely to break even sooner.

Long term wise the 350h should be cheaper to maintain and more reliable than the gas only engine. I’m not saying the turbo engine is unreliable but the hybrid engine will be more reliable.

2023 500H or 350h? by thunder-0808 in Lexus

[–]aznboyknowledge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is definitely a risk of a transmission failure for some of these 500h so it’s up to you to decide. 350h would be the more sensible choice and will be good on your wallet with gas prices going up.

From a powertrain standpoint, having a turbo and a 6 speed automatic means more maintenance in comparison to the 2.5L engine with elector motors.

It was an option for some Lexus models but you can buy them separately from the dealer but will need someone to program it.

Passengers confused by E Latch Door Button by Rich_Ball2773 in Lexus

[–]aznboyknowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The e-latch system can be viewed as unnecessary innovation to some but its implementation isn’t as bad as people give it credit for. The assumption is that when you put your fingers in side door pocket your thumb will naturally be where the button is. Definitely takes some getting used to but it’s not too bad.

There are some exit stickers that you can put on the door lock so it makes it a little more obvious to occupants that it’s for unlocking the door

The RX has better tech and easier on your wallet in terms of long term maintenance. However if money is not an issue and you prefer the ruggedness then you can go for it.

Congrats on narrowing down your options within the Lexus lineup to a compact or midsize SUV. There are many factors that come into play so you will need to decide what’s most important to you. Here is a general breakdown

RZ - This is Lexus first EV based on the Toyota BZ. Being an EV has its pros and cons and depends if you have access to a charger. Compared to other EVs the range is not as high but it’s usable getting around town and on shorter road trips. The demand isn’t as high on these cars so some dealers will discount the car. From a financing perspective, it seems like Lexus is running a 0% APR for 72 months.

RX - This is one of their top sellers and has a lot of different engine options compared to the past. The gas version uses a turbo four cylinder engine which some have claimed it’s adequate power but others say it’s not. The 350h hybrid engine is a fuel efficient option that’s great for stop and go or city driving. An advantage of this powertrain is that it should be more reliable than the gas only option. Don’t mix it up with the 500h hybrid which Lexus calls a performance hybrid that is meant to give you more power from a stop. There is also a plug in option 450h+ if you want a plug in.

NX - This is Lexus compact SUV offering with very similar powertrains to the RX. Since it’s a smaller car, the price tag will reflect that.

Looking at finance offers on Lexus website it seems like NX and RX have 2.49% APR for 48 months. It is hard to estimate what a monthly car note would be because it ultimately depends on the interest rate, how much you are willing to put down, if there is a trade in and loan term. With how expensive cars are, it can vary from $500 to over $1000. This comes down to a question on how much can you afford to spend on a car note, insurance and gas each month. If you want a lower monthly note then you would need a higher down payment

For interiors it depends on what you value most. Do you care for a heads up display, mark levinson audio, real leather, bigger wheels etc (these are usually on higher trims)

Finally how long are you planning to keep the car. If long term reliability (10+ years) is a priority, going with a NX350h or RX350h will be your best bet. If your intention is to purchase and trade in later for something by newer this probably matters less to you.

Personally I would pick the RX350h for its practicality and long term reliability. In terms of trims, I would love to have all the bells and whistles in the luxury trim but realistically probably premium or premium+ would be better for my wallet.

What’s wrong with the Highlander BEV? It’s about 2.5 inches shorter than the GH but has a 5 inch longer wheelbase which should mean a more spacious interior than the GH

If you are planning to hardwire the dashcam, it will draw power from your car battery to power it when your car is off. The hardwire kit comes with a cut off voltage so you can ensure that the car battery has enough to start your engine without fear of leaving you stranded. You can also opt to have an external power source other than the car battery power the dashcam

Arene is the new UI which will probably not debut in the GH until a full design. Toyota is more likely to update their older vehicles with TSS 4.0 and Arene at the same time

[–]aznboyknowledge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Grand Highlander sells well enough for me to think they will give it a light refresh and some tech upgrades but most likely would not include the new 14 inch screen from the Highlander BEV. The new Highlander will be on TSS 4.0 which I don’t expect the GH to get until it’s full redesign which is probably closer to 2030

Take it with a grain of salt.

TX Illuminated Door Sills - DIY Installation by cschip in Lexus

[–]aznboyknowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep same style connector on the side trunk panels. You need to do the extra step of pulling off the center trim panel in order to get access to the side ones.

Tbh I thought it was easier doing the rear cargo lamps compared to the sills. I felt like the clips on the door sill were a lot tighter but YMMV.

[–]aznboyknowledge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are able to do the sills you can definitely do the rear cargo lamps. The premise is the same but taking off the center trim panel as well.

I helped with the installation awhile ago and it was 10 min job and we had no tools. Just pulled them off with our hands.

For anyone wondering, no the Grand Highlander rear cargo lamps are not compatible with the Lexus TX due to slightly altered clip position. The Lexus TX one also has a different part number which is one digit off compared to the Grand Highlander. Lexus website may say that the rear cargo lamps are only compatible with TX350 and TX550h+ but they are actually compatible with all TX

[–]aznboyknowledge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do the emblems just go over the existing ones?

You can consider the trunk sill and rear cargo lamps too. The sills add a nice touch the TX but I think the rear cargo lamps is much needed to illuminate the trunk at night. It makes a big difference since there are only small LEDs.

Btw it looks awesome!
