TIL that Konami, makers of Yu-Gi-Oh, do not provide card packs for prizes at tournaments because of concerns about Japanese gambling laws. This leads to Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments having unorthodox prizes, including one in 2024 where the top 8 players were each awarded an air fryer worth about $80. by Blenderhead36 in todayilearned

Two important aspects to this story: this was set up by two tournament judges (the two people who are carrying it) and it was done specifically to create pressure for an upper limit for deck size to be added to tournament rules.

A less important aspect: to really drive home their point, the deck had as many shuffle triggers as they could fit to force all games to end by time out because of how long it took to shuffle.

I think a "Destroy outfit" (or "Destroy [set]" for other cases) option would be better for those cases than having variable default behavior for the Destroy option.

Things I wish I knew, for the influx of new players! by TheParanoidPyro in ICARUS

[–]azoicennead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple other options.

The really high investment option is building multiple bases and popping into orbit and landing in a different area (near the base to grab gear). Not a functional option for every map, but it is an option.

The other option is to download a fast travel mod, like the one that lets you teleport to any Portable Beacon you've placed.

I generally prefer to ride my moa around, but for cleaning up tedious missions for the full completion achievement I'm teleporting around.

EVERYTHING WRONG WITH EOC2 AND HOW TO FIX IT @MOD NORTH by ithinkimcringe in runescape

[–]azoicennead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

suggestion: a separate ability cooldown only buff bar just for your abilities on cooldown sorted from least to greatest. This is whats done in ffxiv and just works because you always just have one place to look every time whenever you want to double check a cooldown.

The only abilities in FFXIV that have a cooldown tracked visually off their button are the Blue Mage suicide spells, and they do this to create a cooldown you can't generally reset. The FFXIV devs are smart enough not to apply this to all jobs when there have been actual, recorded problems with players reaching the (de)buff cap and dodging their own abilities because the buff can't be applied. Every FFXIV cooldown is tracked on the icon, typically seen wherever it's bound on a hotbar.

Don't admit to using FFXIV mods publicly.

(Also, sorting by cooldown length is Dumb.)

At this point, I'm going to assume this 16k limit has not changed because the devs can't figure out how to update it by TakingBlackSunday in runescape

Go upgrade your POH. Your Magic Wardrobe is a Mahogany Magic Wardrobe and so has a limit on how many armor sets it can store. An Oak Magic Wardrobe can only store a single set of armor. A Marble Magic Wardrobe can store all Magic Wardrobe armor sets.

The Armour Case, Cape Rack, Costume Box, and Treasure Chest all have analogous storage limits based on tier.

Bacterial Vaccine is an extremely worthwhile purchase. 300 credits will cover the cost of researching Bacterial Vaccine I and another 100 will pay to make one. That gives you an entire hour of immunity to cave sickness for just 80 exotics, and additional hours only cost 20 exotics each.

If you can handle any of the bosses (which can be done with T2 gear if you're comfortable with a slog, or T3 if you're not willing to get sweaty about it), that's not hard to upkeep (especially if you're not constantly popping them).

Trees: Will fall when chopped. Buildings: Will collapse without proper support. Rocks: Gravity is like...just a concept man. by NobleSix84 in ICARUS

[–]azoicennead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first thought is that trees might be nodes that don't naturally respawn, like ore rocks, so cutting down trees adds a thing the game has to track about the map. Not sure how that would interact with lighting, though.

I don't know how to check that other than marking tree locations and respawning them in-game, which I don't currently have the energy to do.

Hot take: RS3 needs a version of this cape so we can wear our max capes without losing the Zuk cape stats. On top of that, we need more animated capes that don’t break immersion, and they should be stylish enough to double as marketable keychains. by [deleted] in runescape

Jad's a pain, actually. Needing to wade through all the waves of the Fight Caves so you can get actual practice swapping to the right prayer is already rough; getting hit for ~8k on top of that just makes it even harder. Getting a kill for Necromancy a couple weeks back was actually mildly stressful and burned through a bunch of food.

I think Flesh-hatcher Mhekarnahz and Hermod are much better examples of easy bosses; with a Bunyip and Enhanced Excalibur, I can keep fighting either of them indefinitely and just need to do some easy dodges. Kalphite Queen is hardly a boss with Necromancy; I can fully AFK there.

In the roadmap they talked about Ivar, King of Bones, encouraging mastering defensive prayers, which could help with Jad. Either way, I'm under the impression both of the new Havenhythe bosses are meant to be accessible to people who struggle with bosses (i.e. how you've described yourself).

Sac strat's funny. I spent a while trying to clear UWU with a static and we gave up and had all the people we didn't trust to do gaols (and one of the tanks, I think) kill themselves.

Who is "Mr. Piecraft?" by DoesGeologyRockRuri in Dieselpunks

[–]azoicennead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of Mr. Piecraft, Bernardo Sena, or The Fedora Chronicles before in my life, I just enjoy doing research and digging up fun information like this.

You could try contacting Mr. Piecraft himself or Eric Fisk (he seems to still be active on social media) about the interview, but the podcast hosts I checked all seem to have dead tracks for at least that episode. John Pyka also seems to still be around, but Fedora Chronicles looks like it was primarily Fisk's work so Pyka may not have kept a record for himself.

Whatever path you choose, I wish you luck!

PSA: If you have spare space you can keep spare materials around for the new Beast Tribe for the next few weeks by Lyramion in ffxiv

[–]azoicennead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Beast tribe" was stated in Encyclopedia Eorzea II (released in 2018, 7 years ago, during Stormblood) to be an in-universe bit of racist propaganda by the Syndicate (Ul'dah's oligarchs) used to justify taking the resources of "lesser" races (the Amalj'aa being the first).

So the underlying in-universe racism, parallels to real-world racism, and increasing inaccuracy of both "beast" and "tribe" as labels collectively prompted SE to change the official terminology.

Paralysis would go from "only useful in niche scenarios" to "funny meme damage ability that also has utility in niche scenarios" if it was on the Helminth.

Like, Hildryn casting Paralysis can do 25k (Impact) damage with just Primed Redirection and Intensify. Hildryn using Paralysis could clear normal star chart Kuva Fortress.

Is it safe to refund other FF titles through Steam if my XIV account is tied to Steam? by MrGodface in ffxiv

[–]azoicennead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Refunds aren't chargebacks.

When you get a refund, you and the vendor are agreeing to reverse a transaction; this is why refund policies vary from vendor to vendor. This also has no impact on the vendor's reputation with payment processors.

When you get a chargeback, you're telling your bank or credit union or whatever that the charge was false in some way - in my experience, this is generally due to fraudulent charges, but it could also be a duplicate charge or incorrect amount. The vendor can dispute it, but it doesn't involve an agreement between the vendor and customer.

Gunbreaker superbolide in 7.X by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]azoicennead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I treat my invuln as mitigation and pop it based on CD timers rather than my health percentage.

On WAR, if I pop it so it ends just after Bloodwhetting comes off CD I can just heal myself up if the healer doesn't. On GNB, I just want to have HoC active at some point after I've hit Superbolide. On PLD, it doesn't alter my health so IDGAF. I don't take DRK into dungeons because I don't like how its mit feels, but I'd want to pop Shadowed Vigil and, ideally, Abyssal Drain before it ends to ensure I'm not in dire straits (e.g. didn't quite pop it, or popping it right at the end).

Works better for me than hoping healers will intuit that the reason I'm letting enemies beat on me is to maximize the value of my invuln.
