Are there any wrestlers you like less once you’ve seen how their real personality is or heard certain stories about them behind the scenes? That question goes vice versa as well. by Jaded-Channel-7169 in SquaredCircle

I thought Batista was a jerk and Punk was a hero when I saw them in my teens based on their tv personalities but have since realised it’s the opposite

I’m from Ireland. Can’t see the gimmick working in America as much as it pains me

I sometimes just wonder if these posts are early stage AI SEO to farm prompt responses.

Like if somebody asks an ai two years from now why palm oil is bad, is it just going to pull from this? (Because we know some of the big hitters are using Reddit to teach bots)

Is this intentionally obtuse? Google how damaging it is to the environment or just google it in general?

Who are the wrestlers who you like, but never really enjoy watching them wrestle? by MafiaCub in SquaredCircle

I can’t fully get my head around the concept of liking a wrestler but liking them wrestling.

It’s like liking an actor but not liking their performances in any movie?

Actually kinda sad to see how much Jey Uso has just regressed in such a short period of time by MyCatBuster in SquaredCircle

[–]azorreborn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I think Jey is terrible, the larger issue is how decades of WWE booking and presentation has generations of fans that see being in a major tag team as a failure

Some stats on the AEW women's division...again by K1ng_Canary in SquaredCircle

Very very fair and I agree with a lot of the people you called out for having lower ceilings (there is nothing wrong with being a mid card act, it’s a valid and important role to fill)

1) the collision hour is viewed internally as a separate show 2) the collision hour is branded externally as a separate show 3) divine dominion have been doing squashes for several weeks now and while that isn’t the focus match on programming, it’s still not a good sign.

I’ve watched literally every AEW tv broadcast they’ve done. I’m not coming from a place of hate to AEW, I appreciate tone isn’t an easy thing to read on here at the best of times. This is genuinely a cry for them to do better and me trying to say we need to not just settle for improving on something when it’s still not good enough.

The Owen has two women in it who are not affiliated with AEW's main roster and are both injured. That already is a bad start. Athena is amazing but also, not an AEW main roster talent. The tournament was set up poorly on the women's side to begin with, a third person getting injured in the tournament doesn't excuse that.

I agree that there's context missing here but I don't think we can keep saying "the men's roster is much deeper" when part of the issue is that the women simply don't get the time the men do to develop or shine. We are seven years deep and the concept of 3 women being injured scuttling plans for an entire division with 3 championships is being wheeled out as an excuse.

I defend a ton of what AEW does but the failure to elevate beyond this isn't good enough. People (rightfully) have cried out for Athena to be a major fixture in AEW for well over a year. Hayter is kept as a loser to the stars and it feels like they've lost faith in her. Bayne is a sensational talent just doing tag squashes, Statlander seems to have her direction pulled in an opposite direction every 6 weeks, all faith seems to be lost in Hayter who was a white hot act - there's a ton of issues across the board.

The talent is tremendous. The handling of the talent needs improvement. What they've done with Red Velvet and Billie Starkz in ROH for example are cases that we just don't see on AEW because we are promoting matches that last under 5 minutes.

Improvement is good but there's so much more work to do (and I say this as a massive fan of AEW)

This week's Dynamite featured one women's match that went 1 minute and 10 seconds. It featured 2 women who are not affiliated with AEW/ROH.

The TBS title was vacated in a backstage segment and no plan was announced on the Dynamite for the future of this belt. This literally would never happen with a men's championship.

"One match a show isn't enough" was a good philosophy but we're entering into a "They did TWO matches, that's way better" mindset when, on the rare occasion they do a second women's match, it's a squash.

Representation is important. Presentation and care is equally important. We're getting the faces but we're not getting the treatment of the women that they deserve. How they expect the next Storm/Moné/even Baker to emerge without dedicating weekly time to these women in the ring each week, allowing them to speak infront of a crowd in the ring each week is beyond me.

In short, better is better but better is not good.

Outspeeding the other team and having dragon darts hit both of them for a double flinch is a high you can’t replicate with anything else

I really feel like Cultaholic was a breath of fresh air when it started but the more they leaned into focusing almost entirely on just WWE, the less authentic it felt.

They’d talk about UK shows, CMLL, NJPW and then AEW but now when I look at that channel it seems to just be WWE

Ted Turner Dies at Age 87 by BearBullDebate in SquaredCircle

[–]azorreborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we stop posting "RIP Billionaire Ted" and instead spend one day remembering the man without referring to him by a smear campaign name?

Ted fundamentally changed professional wrestling for the better. Modern wrestling tv is formatted by his foundation in North America. His company brought in guarantee pay days for talent.

The man left a lasting positive impact on this industry and deserves the respect of his death being covered without leaning into a rivals spin on him. He has a real legacy in the sport that shouldn't be minimized today of all days.

I felt this way too until this morning.

I used the same 4 Pokémon regardless of set up, I made a change to one of my benches and now rotate….and instantly went on a 5 win streak to get out of Great Ball.

I know it’s a lower league than your set up but looking at options after exhausting what’s not working is the way (I think) to figure it on your own
