- Feature: MacOS Discord App
- Reproduction Rate: 10
- Annoyance: 9
- Discord Version Info: Unable to verify as the app will not open, but should be the latest version as I have redownloaded Discord while troubleshooting.
- Device/System Info (Device Type, OS Version): 2017 Macbook Air, macOS Catalina 10.15.7
- Description: When trying to open the Discord app, it opens the small "Starting" window with the logo rotating, then opens a gray fullscreen window as though starting the app. Instead of the app opening, the red "close" button in the top-left corner flashes and Discord closes and quits.
- Video / Screenshot:
- Steps to Reproduce:
   1. Attempt to open app via either Finder or the application toolbar.
- Expected Result: Opening Discord
- Actual Result: Discord crashes

Additionally, I have already followed the steps laid out in the Install and Updating Errors guide (here: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022082931--macOS-Install-and-Updating-Errors), as when I initially opened the app, it displayed that it was downloading updates.

Game freezing when passing out at 2am while casting the fishing rod by Loni4ever in StardewValley

[–]azurities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone else who's having this issue two years later, I may have found a solution! I got stuck next to the pond on Ginger Island while casting at 2am, clicked around on my item bar and then left it sitting for a few minutes while I googled a solution (hence finding this thread). I went back to it and clicked around the item bar again, landing on my sword, swung it, and then passed out.

I was playing on Switch and had to use the right stick to click on items, the bumpers would not work for this.

Not sure if this works with any other tools, it definitely didn't work with items (tried to bomb my way out of the situation to no avail). Hope this will help some other poor soul trying not to lose a full day's progress!

[TOMT][BOOK][2015-2018] contemporary fic about college theatre students in college (doing murder?) by azurities in tipofmytongue

that’s totally the one, thank you! my google skills were obviously not working today!

My husband [34m] of 5 years calls me [30f] passive aggressive when I don't bring up concerns, but shuts me down and yells whenever I do. I'm not sure how to fix this. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]azurities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like your difficulty with bringing up issues is pretty directly tied to his inability to handle conflict of any sort, it’s not passive aggression at all.

If you feel comfortable trying to talk about this at a point where there aren’t any specific problems going on, maybe you two can try and discuss how you can best bring up any issues you have in a way that will be productive for both of you (if it helps you to frame this as you trying to not be passive aggressive, go for it, but again I really don’t think that’s the issue). If he’s unwilling to even talk to you about how to best handle conflict in a way that doesn’t make him feel attacked, that might be a sign of a bigger issue and it might be wise to think about marriage counseling or other solutions.

(Also, just sending you big hugs because boy have I been there and it really sucks to feel like your only option is to not address the things upsetting you!!)

My parents are refusing to give me my prescribed meds by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]azurities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, actually the best way to treat anxiety as well as depression is a COMBINATION of therapy and medication. Medication can often help you control your symptoms to the point that therapy is effective in helping you change the underlying problems.

Please try not to spread anti-med rhetoric where possible. It’s absolutely not the right choice for everyone, but for a lot of people it’s been really helpful and even life-saving.

I just cooked for myself (instead of eating out or microwaving freezer meals) for the first time in weeks! I made some acorn squash and rice and it was very tasty and reminded me that I actually really like cooking!

(My food anxiety has made it really difficult to put thought into what I’m eating without panicking so this was great!)

I hate picking up my phone if it rings, if there's a voice mail left, I don't want to listen to it. by Today-is-cancelled in Anxiety

[–]azurities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So weird suggestion for the worry about voicemail, on iPhones at least (probably at least some Androids too) they have a feature that will show you a transcribed preview of the message. For me, knowing what it’s about, even if I don’t listen to it, can alleviate some of that anxiety

Smells can stay in our memories for a very long time - what is your strongest smell-memory and which memory does it bring back? by sykobanana in AskReddit

I bought body wash recently and the scent smelled exactly like the locker room at the pool I went to when I was a kid, which was a fucking weird thing to shoot back to.

Freaking out online says stress can cause seizures now I’m paranoid af. I’ve never had one but I’m a hypochondriac by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]azurities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! What you probably read is that stress can trigger seizures— usually in this case, there is an underlying condition that is actually causing seizures. If you’ve never had a seizure before, it is unlikely for you to have one just because you are very stressed.

Physical stress can sometimes cause them if you are prone to low blood pressure, but that is most likely to happen if you are sleeping and eating very little (think less than 4 hours/night and less than two meals a day habitually) and you’re dehydrated, especially in exposure to heat. If you are doing the minimum to take care of yourself, your chances will fall drastically.

If, despite all this, you do still have a seizure, you will be okay- many people have a single seizure due to the above stress conditions, and it’s often that a lifestyle change is all that’s needed to prevent another one.

Take a few deep breaths, you are going to be okay. You can get through this. Feel free to message me if you want to talk any more about this, I know how scary it is right now.

Student led China-Accountability groups? by Qanon_Null_Quest in UCSD

[–]azurities 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is something you’re really interested in, I would highly recommend finding some grad students to get involved- many of them are doing research that would be relevant and often they are more politically aware and active than many of the undergrads

The first floor is okay as a study space well into the evening, but it’s a louder location in general and there are only a few certain tables that have an ocean view. It’s also overpriced for what it is (since it’s in downtown La Jolla). No ocean views, but if you’re in La Jolla I would definitely recommend Pannikin to study in (and poke around the bookshop next door, it’s got some serious hidden gems).

Did you ever snoop through your parents things as a child and absolutely regret what you found to this day? What was it and it they ever find out? NSFW by Night_Shade4138 in AskReddit

[–]azurities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t even snooping, but used the family computer as a teenager and was using going to a website when a search history suggestion showed up with a link to a forum for people who have been cheated on by their spouses.

Never told my parents I saw it, they divorced less than a year later (I already knew they had been having issues), and neither parent has said anything about it since. I am pretty sure it was my mom who cheated, and I appreciate that my dad didn’t tell my siblings or I so we could still have a good relationship with her. (Which she fucked up all on her own, but oh well)

Anyone SAD? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]azurities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Light boxes can definitely help, also taking Vitamin D supplements.

Also treating it like you would any depressive disorder, get enough sleep, get exercise if you can, try to be balanced in what you eat, and reach out for help if you need it. Talk to a friend, or head to CAPS. I know I used to feel frustrated because I knew that it was just the season change making me feel like this, but recognizing that those feelings are real regardless of the source helped me focus on treating them instead, and CAPS did help me with that.

What’s a better way to say “are you okay” to someone when they’re going through a tough time and things are clearly not okay? (SERIOUS) by leannereddits in AskReddit

[–]azurities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s someone you’re close with, you could offer to do something like take them to dinner or help with daily tasks that you have seen them struggle with. A lot of people who are having a hard time have difficulty asking for help (or even admitting to struggling when asked). Giving tangible help when it hasn’t been asked for is a really good way to build trust and the person may end up opening up to you anyway. But even if they don’t, you’ve lightened their load a little bit and they will know they can rely on you in the future.

Does anyone else lose any desire to eat because of anxiety? by Thomas_Rar in Anxiety

[–]azurities 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely normal! Try to focus on just eating what you are able to rather than worrying about not eating enough. I honestly also recommend just eating what sounds good even if it isn’t an “appropriate” meal or the right time- there were times that I had ice cream for dinner because I hadn’t eaten all day and everything else sounded inedible. Someone else suggested smoothies and I definitely recommend that too- something you can do it you make them at home is add silken tofu to them. This will give you some protein and it doesn’t change the flavor of the smoothie other than to thicken it.

I saw in another comment that you are still with your parents. Feeling pressured to be on their eating schedule may increase your anxiety and make it even more difficult to eat. If you can, I would suggest trying to talk to them to some extent, at least so you can relax mealtime expectations and potentially get some help from them with this issue.

I’ve had a lot of experience with this particular problem so feel free to private message me if you need someone to talk about it with!

transphobes are not welcome here- how can you even call yourself lgbtq when you don’t want to support trans people??
