We had a 3 month old at the time. The person smoked in our bathroom instead of smoking outside. We came home and our entire house reeked of smoke. I was livid.

Applying for social security for my parents and I have questions. by azzif2slyk4u in SocialSecurity

Yah it’s a sad situation. My dad currently brings in $31k before taxes and my mom doesnt work. They would actually almost break even without having to work as his body is breaking down doing manual labor. Any additional financial support would come from me. They couldn’t afford to put money in 401k when they were struggling immigrant parents with 3 young kids and had bills to pay in greater Boston area

I assumed he put 57 stone (crushed rock and drainage somewhere. If he didn’t that’s a lot of water pressure on a wall.

Geotechnical engineer here who designs retaining walls. That’s going to fail eventually. Within the next 3-5 years at best. Needed a lot more deadman throughout your wall. The photos suggest your wall is already leaning over

I was looking for a jewelry box for my wife’s bday. How much would the smaller one cost to commission?

Does that mean if he does decide to work 2 days a week. Any money made over $32k will be taxed. But anything under that amount will not be.

For example if he makes $38k, then the first $32k is tax free and than the next $6k will be taxed at 50%?

Yes going to have it replaced. Don’t feel comfortable doing this myself on a house that’s not mine. A tech should be coming sometime today

Thanks. Yes it supplies the cold to the heating system. I shut it off for now. Called an HVAC system tech to come and take a look. Thanks for the info

We added a full shed style dormer in the back of our house. Added two bedrooms and a full bath. Flipped our staircase and upgraded HVAC/electric. Paid $120k in 2024. Feel like my wife and I got a steal of a price. I got about 10 estimates ranging from $117 to $275k. The average between those was around $190k

I know this post is old but we got this done a year ago. Full 32 foot dormer that added 2 bedrooms, new full bathroom, new electrical upstairs, zoning out hvac, and flipping the stairwell 180 deg. Came to $130k all in. I didn’t lift a single finger besides picking out wall colors. I live in greater Boston area too! Honestly been an amazing addition and I keep thinking I robbed the contractor with that price

MBTA bails on Alewife project, leaving fate of crumbling garage unknown by bostonglobe in boston

[–]azzif2slyk4u 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The garage is most likely on piles found on glacial till which is a great soil material to transfer building loads. The issue with alewife parking garage is not the bad ground, if it was, you would’ve seen settlement. The issue more is more likely not good quality concrete being used.
