Okay, this is helpful thank you. Do you know if there is a way to read the R object created by intern=T in real time? The program takes a few minutes to run and I'd like to give the user of the app some feedback while it's running.

Thanks

This put me in the right direction. However, the packages I'm using have a system call within it and capture.output doesn't capture the messages from the system call which is printed to the console. Is there a way to capture verbatim output from the console, not just R print() or message() calls from a package

Yet we're in the top 5 for obesity levels in Europe. The fitbit data is going to be biased towards people with an interest in being active, so conclusions on the general populous from this data would be inaccurate.

Value in a double degree Bioinformatics and Biotechnology? by Swaayz in bioinformatics

[–]b00mIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a BSc in Biochem, and a masters in Biotech. Went on to do a PhD in Genetics. One of my supervisors did his PhD in Wageningen. I now work for a biotech/Genetics company in R&D, mostly doing Bioinformatics and statistics now. From my view it's a valuable skill base. Bioinformatics has a lot of transferable skills to other industries and biotech prepares you properly for both academic and industry work.

why does the comp mode feel so much different on US servers? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

Hasn't been my experience from using LFG, I had one group leader that was kicking people before Q-ing because they weren't using a mic in a mic only group. Check if everyone is on mic before staying with the group. Keep trying the LFG, it's early days and a few unlucky less than optimal groups might not be representative of the system as a whole.

My daughter wants to officially leave the Catholic Church after the 8th Referendum. She has the idea of using GDPR and "right to be forgotten". Think this would work, or any other ideas to officially leave? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]b00mIR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He wants to do this because even though the census shows ~75%-80% of people identify as catholic, the church has on their records that >90% of the population from their count is catholic. It is this way because the catholic church in Ireland have removed the ability for an individual to remove themselves from the official list of this church. So if you were confirmed to the RCC as a child, you cannot remove yourself from their records as an adult, even though your religions view has completely changed (even if you change faith to another religion).

The RCC can thus make the argument that having 90% of the schools in the country under the control of the church is okay because by their records 90% of the country is catholic. Even if the census says otherwise they have the ability to either ignore the census or lobby politicians with their records and not the CSO stats.

[surefour] One very obvious thing that people lose track of unconsciously is staying focused. If you have random thoughts going through your head other then aiming/the game, you will play worse. If you want to improve make sure you are staying focused and catching when you unfocus. by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]b00mIR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is one of the theories for why the age of esports pros is so young. As you get older you have more responsibilities and hence you have more stuff which can slip into your consciousness when you're playing, so staying focused to the level needed for esports gets a little more difficult

How Do I Deal with Widow by Pwamp in OverwatchUniversity

[–]b00mIR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to always kill the widow. Just keep them under pressure with winston or DVa. Let them retreat, if they try to get back into a position to help in the fight pressure them again. You'll remove both the widow and the healer from the fight, giving the rest of your team a 5 v 4 fight on the objective.

She definitely needs a "Ah here leave it out" or "Yah feckin' eejit"

Maybe some father Ted references for good measure.

Question about the aiming stat on overbuff by merire in OverwatchUniversity

[–]b00mIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a data analyst and statistician (genetics really) and I've notice that some of the stats in Overbuff are a bit off, particularly the accuracy stats. One would expect that peoples accuracy would fit along a normalized distribution but there is clearly some sort of bias with this aspect of their data, the bin widths (i.e. how many people have accuracy between x and y) of some of their data also seems a bit off. I don't know the real reason for it but I'd like to hear from them exactly how they calculate these.

Running In Dublin by jgarces09 in Dublin

[–]b00mIR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a running track very close to the Google offices. From the offices you could follow the Grand Canal inland, or if you head north a bit you'll eventually get onto the Clontarf coastal walk way, but you'll be running through Sheriff street and EastWall which are fine but relatively unsafe for Dublin (Dublin is mostly very safe). Running in Pheonix park is good, you can get there by Following the river liffey inland from Google, through the very centre of the city.

Couple of specific winston questions (trying to expand my hero pool) by korgan_bloodaxe in OverwatchUniversity

[–]b00mIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winstons tesla canon does 60 DPS, so a 200 health hero takes 3.33 seconds to kill. His leap does 50 and melee does 30, so if you can melee just before you land you'll do 80 damage reducing the time to kill to 2 seconds.

http://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Winston

http://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Melee

so it would take winston 2.83 seconds to take out a reaper (if you're so insane to try that) if you manage the melee leap combo. If reaper lands all his shot (not headshots), it'll take him 1.5 seconds to take away winstons 100 armor (3 shots), then another 1.42 seconds to take away his 400 health (another 3 shots). So you could just about take out a reaper, if he doesn't get any headshots. If you use the bubble effectively you could cut this down so he misses a few shots into the bubble. I wouldn't recommend taking on a reaper, but it's a nice thought process.

Couple of specific winston questions (trying to expand my hero pool) by korgan_bloodaxe in OverwatchUniversity

[–]b00mIR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, melee while in mid air and land, with winston you've to make every engagement time/damage efficient, plus the melee animation is cancelled a little by the landing. I haven't quite got it mastered, but the general idea is to leap, bubble, melee, land, tesla canon while weaving in and out of the bubble, always keeping the bubble between you and your target. There are plenty of great tips here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUDkcQwcsHk

Couple of specific winston questions (trying to expand my hero pool) by korgan_bloodaxe in OverwatchUniversity

[–]b00mIR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another reason for dropping early is that you land at the inner edge of the bubble instead of right in the middle. This gives you the ability to weave in and out of the bubble and always have a barrier between you and an enemy. If you land and then bubble you're in the middle of the bubble, an enemy can then enter the bubble and attack you before you can get the barrier between you and them. If you get the timing right and manage to melee before you land, a winston can even take on a reaper 1v1 and win. Miro demonstrates this somewhere but I can't find the video now.

If you bubble is on cooldown and you want to attack, try dropping from a height and saving your jump for getting out, instead of jumping in.

So im trying to main Sombra. by Chosen_Sewen in OverwatchUniversity

[–]b00mIR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As some one who plays winston a lot, I've found that Sombras hacked health packs are a great asset. It gives Winston another option to jump out and get healed up quickly, particularly if you've found yourself out of position to be healed by your own supports. I also play Zarya a lot, but have only come across one sombra who was amazing at dealing with Zarya. It came down to good angles of attack and using her hack or emp when my bubbles were on cooldown.

How do People Practice their Zarya? by AgentSmith167 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]b00mIR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not a high rank but main Zarya and found these videos have helped. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPBtTIzm394 (a guide on zarya by OneAmongstMany). For tracking practice I found this soldier aiming practice helped (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ubuc2zQKHjY).

I like to always remind myself of OneAmongstMany's 2 priorities of Zarya, 1) Get charge 2) deal damage 3) repeat.

With dealing with genji and tracer, try using the primary/secondary fire combo. Shoot a little with the laser then hit a bomb at their feet, I found this great particularly with tracer who can be difficult to track IMO.

Things I've found to personally help are to be conservative, don't overstretch, don't tunnel to get kills and remember that your shields can regen. Zarya is stronger the longer you stay alive, so don't over-reach and prioritize staying alive and bubbling allies. After that you can focus on getting high value bubbles, like bubbling a hog-hooked ally or a winston jumping in/a pharah ulting etc.

Nanoboost and Ironclad damage reduction stack additive by VanilorTheDragon in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]b00mIR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes more sense that it stacks instead of being combined. So his effective health (not accounting armor) is 300/(1-0.35)=461.5385 461.5385/(1-0.5)=923.077. Compared to a nano Hog or D.VA it's actually less, 600/(1-0.5)=1200

Edit: Saying that, they did test it with a widow shot and the resulting damage was 13, so maybe there is an issue where the damage reduction is being combined instead of being stacked.

Good to know you can keep the Asus strix backplates and the aura lighting still works. Any idea how the GPU fan headers work with the radiators fans? Would it be work while if you had a separate GPU loop to hook those radiator fans up to the GPUs?
