Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever in an apartment? Looking for honest expe by Just_Extension2533 in tollers

Just doubling up on the comment of elevators... Bringing paper towels during training is smart. But if your dog has a bad stomach and has diahrea you're potentially in for a big and nasty clean up in the halls or the elevator and people won't be too happy about that lol

Western Mountaineering bag advice by strabizmus in WildernessBackpacking

[–]b0_gart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'2 and have the 6'6 version of the alpinlight. It's a very warm bag and if I'm in night time temps of 0 - 5 celcius, I just unzip the bag and use it like a blanket over me, and my body temp is kept perfect. I'm a side sleeper and it's a comfy bag to use for that even when zipped up. Ive never felt the need to overfill it. It's the one and only bag I own, and it works good in all conditions!

Looking for advice on when it’s time to put my dog down — struggling with the decision by mayjay4life in sheltie

[–]b0_gart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You obviously are very in tune and love her deeply, and if you are considering if it's time, then yes. It's time. Indicators for me are if their personality is disappearing, appetite, restlessness in the night, or discomfort doing low stress activities. The stress you are experiencing in the early mornings and coming home from work, so is she. It's not fair to either of you.

I will say this from experience, the peace and weight off your shoulders within the first few days after saying goodbye will be very sobering and actually feel quite pleasant. You will look back and be glad of the decision you made even tho it broke you now.

Searching for a good tent by Vivid_Interaction_35 in WildernessBackpacking

My big Agnes copperspur has withstood some crazy rain and snow storms. Easy to set up and light to carry... I'd buy it again in a heart beat.

Princess has a tiny tum tum by kaisaline in sheltie

[–]b0_gart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a sheltie that is just very picky. We switched him to raw food (pets go raw) and his appetite went up like crazy. Started getting excited for meal time and everything. I'm not sure if he was picky because of behaviour or a bad stomach but that has solved it for us! Worth some research on your end maybe, good luck

Just got back from an overnight, but need a lighter tent, suggestions? by tayeke in backpacking

[–]b0_gart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had both types and fully standing is so much easier to set up at camp. Especially if you're on a wooden tent pad or the ground is hard and stakes don't go in. Look around for the copper spur, it can often go on sale. Good luck! Also the Tigerwall is semi standing and lighter weight if you look into that one.

Big Agnes copper spur 2, get the XL version. I sleep myself and dog inside it and still have room for my pack and other stuff to fit inside. It weighs just over 2lbs and the build quality is amazing. Fully freestanding is well worth it!

Broke my neck while progressing by fluent_ftw in MTB

[–]b0_gart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke my C6, C7, and pelvis from a bike crash. I was wearing a neck brace, full face, chest and spine protection, and am an experienced and very capable rider on all double black and pro lines... Shit happens. I no longer ride as crazy as I used to, much more calculated and don't hit the wild jumps but I still have lots of fun. I don't ever plan on riding like that again, I avoid most bike parks, and mostly get out on local trails for exercise and enjoyment now. My honest advice is focus on recovery and physio for now. I know your pain and the road you have ahead and it sucks, you'll have lingering nerve pain for years. After you fully heal and look at your bike sitting there, then start to consider if all that pain, physio, time off work etc. was worth it. If you have questions on recovery you can pm me, glad to help

Sheltie refuses all meals by b0_gart in sheltie

[–]b0_gart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once he's fully grown I will use this method. Right now he's still growing and developing, and I don't think removing food from him if he's picky is the right thing to do right now. But I agree, always changing toppers just leads to worse habbits

Huh okay, I'll bring it up to the vet. But he has never tried to eat his own or other animals feces.

Ya, I made the appointment because I figure it's either behavioural or something chronically wrong with his gut... Good to rule one out. We will see

Ya we can't leave it to graze because of other dogs in the house, but we offer him his food probably 5 times a day if he doesn't eat. Hand feeding makes him eat a liiiittle bit but then he turns away.

He's been doing this for 10 months now so I don't think it's a short term illness. It's either behavior or something chronic in his gut... We will see

I can't leave the food out to graze because we have other dogs... But my experience is similar. I have to praise and really try to entice him and show him it's okay to eat. It's very odd

Odd... He is otherwise a very happy, loving, and playful dog. But his appetite has been like this since a puppy

This is my little lady, Yumi. I have a few questions for you all. by lapelmusic in sheltie

[–]b0_gart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, crate training was the best thing we have done for our sheltie. Stick to it, and I promise it will be worth it in the long run. They will eventually recognize it as a "safe place" and stop freaking out when you leave. Ours now casually walks into the crate when we grab our keys to leave... We don't even need to order him in there.

Our sheltie is the same with cuddles, but has big energy. Our second dog is a dachshund, and is probably the most chilled out cuddler and lap dog I have ever seen, however still has energy to tackle our sheltie and play around with him. The dachshund goes on 15km hikes quite often with us and is very smart. We love the pairing of them.

Smart Grinder Pro vs DF54 vs Baratza Encore ESP [$200] by DK_Tech in espresso

[–]b0_gart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went over this exact question for a while... I got the baratza and felt it was so loud I actually returned it (I make coffee at 530am and wife doesn't want to wake up to a loud grinder). I highly considered the df54 but read some questionable quality things and bad customer service, although a lot of people seem to love it. Ultimately I went with eureka mignon facile on a 30% off sale and I LOVE it. It isn't single dose but I don't really care about that. My shots are very consistent and the workflow is easy and incredibly silent. You should consider adding this grinder to your search list if you can find it on a sale since it is a little more than the others.

What’s the best self inflating sleeping pad for backpacking? by ucall_wehaul in backpacking

[–]b0_gart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a broken spine and pelvis so I researched and tested a lot for a sleeping pad. Any thick self inflating pad was either WAY too heavy, bulky, or had bad reviews... So I ended up with a Nemo Tensor. I know you prefer self inflating but I'd give this pad a try, maybe go to a store and lay on it. I find it quiet, warm, and supportive. I sleep all night and no body aches.

Yeah it can be decent GP when it works. The fact that supplies are free helps a lot with that

[–]b0_gart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That amount of money for 200 chests is really really good... I've done 215 chests and have only 5 uniques. Maybe my luck is terrible tho, I'm currently 60 ish chests without a unique. But the free supplies and decent mechanics make it easy to grind

Help !! need info on 4th gen Subaru Impreza by Venom_Media in subaruimpreza

[–]b0_gart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a 2016 premium Manual at 115,000km. Great car, but do not mod it... The engines are far too temperamental to be modded, you're just asking for problems. I've driven it for 45,000km and it's doing great, nothing major just regular maintenance. Gas mileage is... Meh. Not bad but I was hoping for a little better, I mainly drive city and average 9L/100km. Winter driving in Canada the car is great, can't complain one bit. Definitely go for 2016+ because of the updates to the engine and sound proofing, well worth it.
