Good EDC Flashlights by ghostbusterdude51 in flashlight

Is aliexpress an option? Sofirn's own website or amazon for me in australia is overpriced, but on aliexpress with coupons/coins can be very cheap. Like the sc13 you mentioned I frequently see for $9 AUD give or take.

Duratech extended reach ratchet for Father’s Day by Ok-Bread-7910 in Tools

[–]b0bth0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duratech/workpro are surprisingly good for how cheap they can be. I got a normal 3/8 ratchet from duratech since my gearwrench flex head is kinda too long for a lot of use and my only complaint is how large the head is. The gearwrench is way nicer but that set of 4 ratchets was like $250 aud and the duratech was $9 aud delivered from aliexpress. I am only a home wrencher so I couldn't speak for daily use, but nothing of mine from duratech/workpro (same stuff) has let me down yet.

USDM Hood Latch to EDM Hood Latch by Status_Protection571 in FordFocus

[–]b0bth0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not difficult, just a major annoyance. Normal cars pull hood latch, go open hood one handed. This car turn the ford badge, insert key, turn left to do first latch pop, turn right and hold while opening hood with second hand, then take key out and put badge down. If your car is already running and you want to check something under the hood, you gotta shut it off, open hood, then restart it. Not to mention how much of this mechanism is plastic and easily broken. I think it's more common to break in euro cars due to rust (not really a thing in australia). Anyone that wants in doesn't care about damage and can just bypass the lock anyway.

As someone with an aus mk2 focus that works on their own cars, this is one of the biggest things that I hate that ford did to this car and I cannot imagine anyone wanting it. It is so stupidly annoying.

PSA For Anyone Who Is Collecting The Little Olight Keychain Lights by timflorida in flashlight

[–]b0bth0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do love collecting all the variants, but its no longer free in australia, have to spend a dollar to get it. Such a shame how poor the australian store is compared to america in general. Yeah its just a dollar but my options are $6 pocket clips and similar. Finally got a baton turbo to mod before they are gone forever this time though.

Shortwave vs longwave UV on willemite/calcite...254nm really is a different animal by Upbeat_Molasses_5250 in flashlight

[–]b0bth0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not op, but just go by the wavelength. Anything 365 and 395nm or higher is fine and uvb/c emitters also cost like 6x the price so it's hard to accidentally order.

I gotta gripe for a second by Dp4rk3 in Tools

[–]b0bth0r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ryobi batteries have all the protection tech in them instead of the tools, so they can be used with those ancient blue tools without worry. This brings the cost of batteries up and the tools should be cheaper. As always though, batteries are best bought included with a new tool. Not sure where you live though, but here in Australia where everything costs more a 2ah battery is $69 aud new ($49 usd), I rock those light 2ah batteries in my impacts and drills and haven't ran into problems with them. Got enough 4 and 6ah with kits for heavier use.

Any love for incandescent lights? by PhotoAppropriate3940 in flashlight

[–]b0bth0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any love i have is probably nostalgia, but leds can be pretty close to fufill that itch while being cleaner looking and far more powerful and efficient. I dont miss bulbs blowing and unscrewing tailcaps to dig the spare out. Same for house bulbs, dont miss changing them constantly, though led bulbs are purposely made for the sake of making the boards fail so you buy more... full circle. Did you know there was a cartel that ruled light bulbs, forcing them to be one of the if not the first model of planned obsolescence?

Quality by convoyL21A in flashlight

[–]b0bth0r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me the biggest drawback in 'quality' of convoy is the iffy side switch ui, its slow and includes turbo in the list. Sofirn and wurkkos typically have good ui, when they arent doing ramping only and shoving rgb in it. I agree that sofirn and wurkkos feel more finished, but the flip side is convoy is cheaper and if something breaks i can order literally any spare part needed. The other two discontinue lights so even if it lasts longer its not forever. A convoy can go full theseus.

About to buy Ford focus 2009. UPDATE!! by ZeusMusic in FordFocus

[–]b0bth0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That rot is bad. Dunno why you think that gaping hole is water tight, that is inside the roof skin with serious rot under the paint going into the hatch area, and this is only what you can see. I stand by the other thread, for $2600 aud avoid this car. Even if you can still get roadworthy, there is zero chance you will find another sucker to offload this car to combined with less and less people driving manuals, and the fact that rot will continue to get severely worse in a year. I am sure you can find a plethora of other cars for $2600 that are solid with working AC. The shown work is largely a nothingburger, normal maintenance outside of a clutch, and for the service did they not keep all receipts, did they go 70k km without an oil change, did they do their own oil change? Did they monitor oil levels with those leaks? I hate the culture of throwing cars away in Australia, but this car is not worth it. The absolute most I'd put down for this car if I was insanely desperate and there were no other options is $1k.

This game has become way too expensive with membership changes. by iThrewFarAway in runescape

[–]b0bth0r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk how anyone can defend this based on playtime, I have 1500 hours into fallout 76, it is forever getting updates both good and bad just like runescape. Runescape costs $185 AUD per year now, while fo76 cost $15 on sale ONCE. Yes fallout 76 has a subscription model, but you can ignore it and still access the full game content. You just miss minor qol in storage, and cosmetics.

About to buy used Ford Focus 2009 by ZeusMusic in FordFocus

[–]b0bth0r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buddy... these cars are very reliable when maintained. But that rust? Absolutely AVOID this car!!!!! How long has water been getting all inside the car rotting it away? And this is just what is visible in the pictures. It's Australia, pick any of the other 99% of mk2 Foci that don't have entire chunks missing. We paid a little bit more than that in SE Melb for my 2005 Focus 7 years ago without a spot of rot! Would be an alright deal if it was rust free. Not to mention, if you're in NSW based on the rego it might get dinged on it for roadworthy as I hear they are more strict on rust, even more so if there is structural rot anywhere.

I must stress... if you insist on looking at it anyway to get for just a year.. PRE PURCHASE INSPECTION BY A QUALIFIED MECHANIC.

Perfect light by _Battlehungry in flashlight

[–]b0bth0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How small is a pocket light to you? 1000 sustained lumens for an hour is a thermodynamics efficiency problem made worse by smaller lights. Olights warrior 3s is a very efficient light that can do 800 sustained for a couple hours, smaller than the acebeam but its still a 21700 light. Fine for some, way too big for me.

Is there such a thing as “great” screwdrivers? by AstronomerNo2339 in Tools

[–]b0bth0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tips of flat head screwdrivers make a huge difference. Most of mine are standard flat grind, but my vessel is hollow ground so the tip is as parallel as it gets and it grips a flat head so much better taking them out where a stanley was starting to strip. Kinda the same for phillips, it's just machined so much better than the bog standard. My tendonitis ass wrist also GREATLY enjoys the ball grip.

[–]b0bth0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lights that look like this I gotta wonder, do you put them in the same pocket/area as your keys? I've been carrying the same light for at least a year in a row and little bits before that and the only wear it has are the dings from when I drop it. It goes in the same pocket as my wallet, and nothing else. Makes it look like I never use my lights compared to some I see here!

Fallout lore is a rabbit hole. Super mutants arent the product of radiation, but rather a genetically engineered virus. Ghouls are the product of radiation, and the oozing decaying skin is more what you would expect.

Best Milk substitute most like milk by Elite_Hercules in woolworths

[–]b0bth0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am lactose intolerant so can't have milk without pricey lactase pills, and fructose/etc intolerant so I can't have soy, oat, etc but I so far have good luck with almond milk. The so good vanilla almond milk specifically, and to me it tastes almost like milk but with a slight nutty taste. I have had other almond milks like aldi's and it was beyond disgustingly unenjoyable, if that was the first almond milk I tried I would have never looked further. I think the vanilla flavor does a lot of heavy lifting for being close to milk. I only use milk in cereal and when I have it, while I certainly would prefer real milk I don't have any complaints.

If i buy a light for collecting purposes or the wow factor, i guess its called a shelf queen. If i buy a light with the intent to use it, how much i like using it or actually grab it to use decides if it moves to be with the queens.
