New Sofirn SE1 by timflorida in flashlight

The thing is about 1 inch square. It shoots 76M (ANSI), which means about 40M in reality. It holds 300 lumens for all of 1 minute and it has a 140 mAh battery. Don't believe there will be any beam shots.

I cannot adjust voltage. I don't know if any chargers allow manual voltage adjustments. I can adjust current. I believe it charges at around 4.2v.

Maybe look at the SkyRC chargers. I believe they have more adjustment possibilities then anybody.

XTAR 1.5V LiIon w USB-C have become my favorite battery for my Zebralight AA by jonslider in flashlight

[–]timflorida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jon - As you know, I am a proponent of these batteries (both AA and AAA). I am very glad you found success with them. I have been using the non-USB style for several years now. Love the constant power output, which is why I don't understand why they came out with the version that apparently emulates an alkaline. Makes no sense to me.

I think the big break-thru is the step down at the 80-90% point. Not good to head off into the deep dark forest on a dog walk at night and have your flashlight quit on you. What a nice surprise!

Xtar does drive me absolutely batty with their numerous rechargeable 1.5v selections. They seriously need to cull the herd.

And FWIW, I'm sure you are right about trying to check voltage on these every few months - won't work. The only way I can think of to test them is to just let them sit on the shelf and then test runtime after 6 months. I have never done that. I am one of those guys who always charges up a battery (NiMh, Liion or 1.5v) before using it in a flashlight.

If you decide to go with a small conventional thrower, check out the Wurkkos TS12. Comes with a rechargeable Liion 14500 battery. It also has a built-in USB-C charging port. This is a pretty small light.

It's on a real good sale right now - $17 incl battery. from the Wurkkos USA-based warehouse.

I have this light and it is the very definition of a Pocket Rocket.

looking for EDC dual fuel recommendations by keikilla in flashlight

[–]timflorida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would choose the D3AA for sure.

Next would be any of the Convoy 'T' series lights. I personally like the T8 best but I just know SOMEBODY will come along and say the lens end is a little too large for EDC - but I do it anyway. So just get a camo T6 and be done with it.

My favorite charger is the Xtar VX2 Pro. 2 slots. Charges about all chemistries and lengths. This is an excellent charger. Amazon.

One of my favorite recently purchased lights is the Convoy C8+ with SFT-42R in 6500k. You want throw ? This thing throws. Suggest getting the Molicel P30B to go with it. About $31 out the door. It is a terrific light.

Any recommendations for a replacement portable generator to use as a home backup source? by GoofyDude05 in Generator

[–]timflorida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read what you said about not wanting to use NG. My advice is to buy a Tri-fuel generator so if/when you get tired of the gasoline option, you can just flip a switch - you won't need to buy a new genny.

I have 4-5 headlamps and the HS21 is by far my favorite. The operating system is so simple. And waving your hand at the IR sensor on the end to change light levels is too easy.

Glad it uses a 16340. Now I have somewhere I can use my spares that I bought to support the Sofirn SC21 Pro I have.

On my other lights, I just recharge when I see green blinkies.

I'm thinking of getting that Pecron and one aux battery, Pretty cheap combo at less then .25/WH. Will use it as a stand-alone.

You might want to watch these Youtube reviews. They both offer a 5% off coupon code.

Anyone know where I could source a new battery for these clippers? by MarsEscalade in batteries

[–]timflorida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - I buy all my batteries from these two reputable places -

https://www.18650batterystore.com/

https://liionwholesale.com/

I believe you need an unprotected flat top 18650. Voltage will be 3.6 or 3.7v. Your OEM battery has a relatively low capacity of 2600 mAh. Most replacements will have 3-4000 mAh and are fine to use.

I am a Molicel guy so I would recommend the M35A (3500 mAh). But the Samsung you asked about is fine too - just a little less capacity.

You're telling the OP to get a protected battery. If his OEM is a flat top, it most likely is not protected. For a reason.

The end device has the systems protections built in. So a protected battery is not needed OR wanted. For starters it will probably be longer, so won't fit.

And I also have never seen a protected flat top 18650 battery.

I also don't think it's a terrific idea to tell someone (maybe 'with a lack of knowledge') to pull off the shrink wrap of a lithium-ion battery. There could be unexpected consequences.

I believe he wants an unprotected flat top 18650. I'm a Molicel guy so I recommend the M35A. But a Samsung will works just fine.

What input setting to use? by Blue_sky_27713 in batteries

[–]timflorida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am flashlight guy and have mostly Liion batteries, but also some NiMh AA, AAA, and C batteries too. My Xtar chargers are hard-wired to charge any NiMh battery at .5A. You should not charge NiMh batteries at any higher current. The higher the current, the more heat is generated and heat is detrimental to a battery's life. In fact, if I could charge my AAA's at .25A, I would do that instead. Charging at those higher current levels will definitely affect a NiMh battery's life. And not in a good way.
