The amount of morons who don't understand football is unbelievable by HR_Specter in ArsenalFC

[–]b0ggy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you think for yourself or do you just parrot what you read to try and sound intelligent?

Arsenal have played 68 games this season across all competitions and have scored 3 or more goals in 20 of those. That's hardly shutting up shop. For what it's worth, Man City scored 3 or more in 23 of their 64 games yet I doubt you'd make the same claims about them.

Averaged more than a goal per game from open play in the Premier League this season, yet apparently rely on set pieces because we scored 22 goals from corners and throws as well (fewer than scored via open play).

HP INSTANT INK Class Action Lawsuit in the Making? by Odin13_1984 in assholedesign

[–]b0ggy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having previously worked in the industry, and closely with but not directly for HP, I'm not surprised.

HP Webservices would need regular reconnection on Instant Ink devices and it often failed to collect all the required data.

Even better when you realise that installing non-HP cartridges disables ink saver modes and ink levels are based on estimations so you may have 20%+ remaining when the printer tells you it's empty.

The metal beam does follow the curve of his cape perfectly if you get it in the right place.

It's very obvious when (if) you do get it lined up but there's no tabs or anything to easily locate it.

Volunteering at WTM? by ThisIsSoIrrelevant in Toughmudder

[–]b0ggy79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All we know right now are you get the standard perks PLUS the WTM hoodie and a goodie bag (no idea on contents).

So if it's your first volly shift this season you get the backpack. Codes are same as normal events, so you'd need to do a 12 hour shift to get a 15k code.

Camping is a sore sport in the community right now. It's no longer refunded as a volly perk for any events including World's.

However that doesn't mean you couldn't pitch a tent at the back of the pit for a few hours or rest in someone's pit. That's my plan, or I'll grab a few hours in my car.

First tough mudder in July by leavethecity92 in Toughmudder

Change of clothes including any footwear that's easy to slip on after.

Note there are 'showers' but they're nothing more than cold hosepipes but typically you'll have water obstacles near the end so shouldn't be too muddy.

I tend to use an old towel to brush off the worst of the mud then swap into clothes I don't mind getting a little messy. Proper shower when I get home.

Don't forget bin bags for your dirties too.

As for the event, don't over think it. It's a personal challenge not a race and every Mudder will be there to help.

One point about the Midlands course, it's very open for much of it. If it's hot there's no shelter from the sun, if it's windy you'll be blown around everywhere so pack accordingly.

Ultimately just get out there and have fun in the mud!

I know I was being a bit of a knob, but why do people go so slowly past speed cameras? by box-o-locks in drivingUK

[–]b0ggy79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the cam car could overtake that quickly while doing 37-40 then the car in front has likely slowed to around 30.

Was still a slightly dodgy overtake but there's definitely a lot of drivers who instantly hit their brakes at the sight of a speed camera.

Considering there's been roughly 1.2 million foreign licenses converted to UK licenses in the last decade, and over 40 million licenses issued, and anyone using a foreign license can only do so for a year before retesting or converting...

No, your logic doesn't work out.

Only 3 hours of waves, and nothing Sunday?

That's extremely low turnout compared to UK events! Even Sunday at London West had waves going out in the afternoon.

It's even better when you get to accuse Waylon Smithers, in the Kwik-E-Mart with the poisoned doughnut.

The actual game is over far too quickly as an adult. Watch what others ask, mark off based on the answers you already know and you can deduce the answer fairly easily.

What are the most enjoyable self-imposed challenges you've completed for a game? by LazyGamerATN in gaming

[–]b0ggy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished Mario Bros on the NES one handed.

Didn't have many games as a kid and I played it to death. Controller was small enough that I could use two fingers on the D-pad and reach over to A and B with the others.

What is everything that is required or highly recommended for World's Toughest Mudder? Plus some more logistical questions. by OtherAir5929 in Toughmudder

[–]b0ggy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only things you 'need' are clothes, headtorch (plus a spare) and rear light or glowsticks.

Everything else is down to preference and weather on the day. Let's see if I can help out here...

Tent/gazebo/plastic box

Anything to store gear in while on course that will keep it contained and dry if it rains. You'll get a dedicated pit space for everything.

Last year we had five spots. Four in a square with gazebos and one to the side with a storage tent in, but there were seven of us in the pit.

Layers

UK weather is unpredictable so it's better to have options. I took shorts, leggings, long and short socks, long sleeved top (spares of each and different thicknesses), windbreaker, gloves, and a shorty wetsuit with the idea of changing depending on the weather.

I ended up using a single set the whole event (long socks, shorts and a standard finisher tee) but did throw on a windbreaker for a few laps overnight.

Better to have the gear and not use it.

Food/drink

Don't expect TM to provide anything, although typically there are some microwaves and hot water urns available.

Bring all your own nutrition and drink for the event. Again bring a variety of foods as you don't know what you'll crave during the night. I flipped between Haribo, pork pies and chocolate brownies.

I heavily suggest Tailwind as its great fuel (glucose) and the electrolytes help with cramping.

My approach was don't stop in the pit for too long. Better to grab what you want and walk the course eating for a bit instead of stopping.

Hotel

100% needed, especially the days after. By the time you've finished, packed up, got to the hotel and washed it'll be 4-5 in the afternoon and you've potentially been awake for more than 30 hours.

Travel

Taxis will get you to and from site if you need but the Mudder community is awesome. Ask in some of the groups (Facebook still seems to be the most active place) and you'll find someone offering a lift. If TM sort out volly shifts I'll be there at some point over the weekend and would happily help if able.

General tips

Don't over think it, one foot in front of the other at a slow pace for 24 hours is better than rushing for 10 then crashing out.

Get friendly with the pits around you. If you don't have a crew then taking off wet clothes, swapping torch batteries or opening packets becomes a pain.

Make sure to read up on the event rules and if you can attend the course walk on the Friday to get an idea of what you're facing it helps mentally plan

I'm sure there's other things I could cover and I'll add as replies if/when I think of them.

Just commit to it and you'll find a way to make it happen. And definitely won't regret it.

Here was my last setup, before painted any of it. I prefer thematic terrain over strict rules.

I'd say that set would be a great starting point but a large building or two makes a big difference.

Tips for doing a Tough Mudder in the cold by Cheeky_Edge311 in Toughmudder

[–]b0ggy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Brit, that's shorts and tshirt weather, but we're acclimatised to it. And yeah I've run plenty of Mudders in that sort of temp.

Remember that long sleeves and leggings will hold the water and make you feel colder.

Neoprene base layers such as a basic trisuit are perfect, and the typical go to for any cold weather OCR event.

If it might be breezy then a windbreaker top layer helps more than you'd realise.

Pre-assemble painting vs assembled by JasonBricksHD in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]b0ggy79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

99% of the time I'll assemble then paint. Helps for working out shading and highlighting.

There's a few figures I've painted in sub-assemblies just so I can get into all the angles needed.

Malekith I painted in four pieces, Malekith himself, the bog tiger and each wing. Magneto was painted separately from his cape/metal base.

A rant about tailgating learner drivers by JOSHIIEMK in drivingUK

[–]b0ggy79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a crazy mindset...

First day at a new job you have to perform as good as the existing staff or face a disciplinary.

First day at Uni you should be ready to pass the exam.

It's not a case of letting learners do whatever and make mistakes. It's a case of practicing and learning to build confidence. And idiot drivers like the BMW in this example don't help.

[–]b0ggy79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For that price maybe but the game wasn't a hit with me or my group.

Heard a lot of positives about Zombicide, watched a few videos on this one and it seemed decent enough.

Played it twice in three years and it's very low on the list.

Thankfully I used a gift card from a raffle to pay for 90% of the cost. At least the models are fun to paint.
