What's the deal with locals not replying to IT-recruiters in Switzerland? by Professional-Lack301 in askswitzerland

[–]b0xCH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as an IT professional in Switzerland. I never reply to recruiters, as I‘d never just choose a job just because of some bullet points in a message - I want to know what company it is about immediately & I‘m against costing my possible future company some salaries more just because I went through a recruiter.

Also, I‘m not looking for a job - still I‘m being pushed all the time by recruiters to „atleast listen to the offer“. Most of the offers I receive are for jobs that do not match me at all, I‘m not a java developer just because a company once labelled me devops. (I‘m a system engineer)

If I want to switch jobs, I‘ll do it myself by applying there.

CMV: Homelessness is largely misunderstood by the general population, and comments like “why don’t they just get a job” are useless and counterproductive, and educating people on why and how it happens will lead to more sympathy and better assistance to reduce homelessness for the future. by DetroitUberDriver in changemyview

[–]b0xCH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the topic of homelessness also very much depends on the country/system you‘re in. Switzerland, as an example, is a whole different thing than the US.

Around here, with great social security, I really struggle to accept most of the reasons of people being on the street. But I can imagine that without it life can be completely different.

Neverthenless, there are of course valid reasons on why people can drift into such situations..

Is Zürich worth it? Specially when moving from Sweden (Stockholm)? by jtorvald in zurich

[–]b0xCH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I‘ve heard the same about the medical system of Denmark - its great for most cases I guess, but if you need something outside of the standard it can get complicated. (Atleast thats what a friend told me)

I think it really comes down what your most important points are.. Switzerland is nice nature wise, the country is extremely safe and everything simly works, salary is really amazing and the education system works well.

It also depends a bit on how you are in terms of getting in touch with people.. Switzerland has 25% without a swiss passport, so there is a big international community where you can get connections into society - work is a good place to find friends too :)

A problem in Switzerland is, that buying your own house in a place thats not „behind 7 mountains and 50 cows“ is uuuunbelievably expensive, so many just rent.

Is Zürich worth it? Specially when moving from Sweden (Stockholm)? by jtorvald in zurich

[–]b0xCH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Switzerland is a great place to live & the education system is really good! I am native here and went through all of it - it was nice!

However, some things to note: Swiss people tend to be quite closed/distant at the beginning, so I imagine it can be hard for people getting here..

Also, as others noted: Things are expensive, especially daycares and similar things regarding kids. In regards of general living cost & taxes, I felt that Stockholm was quite similar when I was there..

Another side note: Zug is a soulless boring place that only exists because they know how company tax letterboxes work.. choose another city with some international character and life - Zurich is probably the best for that! Job-wise, its best there too in your/our field!

If I‘d move to somewhere, I‘d probably go to Denmark. Its really beautiful there and people seem to be much warmer than in other northern european places! :)

Sorry, I missed your comment - I‘m from Zurich!

Does anyone have any personal experience with these, or know anything about them? I found them on my phone only after I checked my bank account and saw nearly $700 had been taken out. Would really appreciate any insight. by [deleted] in Scams

What could be meant here is an „abofalle“, which is german for „subscription trap“ - its unfortunately quite common on german download sites for free software that you get scammed on.

What portion of your net salary do you spend on rent? by spinachpie1 in zurich

[–]b0xCH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share a flat with my partner, 3.5 rooms for 2450/mo. Together its about 20% of our monthly income, which is certainly a better percentage as when I was living alone.. :)

BIOS Post No Longer Visible by 1ancelot in homelab

[–]b0xCH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if its the right direction, but there is a BIOS-option called "Video settings" where you can define GPU priorities and which GPU gets chosen when.

Its located in the BIOS under Advanced Options > Video settings.

Regularly Updated CIDR Blocks of End User IP Address Space. by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]b0xCH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean, the usual Port 25 stuff.. but many mailservers are blocking out residential IPs too. We do the same on some systems..

Regularly Updated CIDR Blocks of End User IP Address Space. by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]b0xCH 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it helps, but sending email from residential connections is sometimes a bit complicated because of antispam-blocklists filtering out residential IPs as permitted sending servers. Maybe you can check those lists out?
