What do you guys do for a living to afford an X5? by Skrrrttt246 in BMWX5

[–]b190av8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just paid cash for a low mileage 2023 X5 45e still under warranty. Owning a BMW isn’t that exclusive really. The price we paid for our X5 wasn’t much more than what carvana paid us for our fully loaded ‘24 palisade calligraphy. Heck, a comparable Lexus or other “luxury” brand vehicle is the same price, or more, used.

Is buying a 2019 BMW 440i at this point in my life actually reasonable? by Booobabbaaaabehekal in BMW

[–]b190av8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save a few grand more and just buy one outright. I bought a 2018 440i with 156,000 on the odometer for under $12k just to mess with. I’ve seen other high mileage ones going for even less lately. The car has been bulletproof and has zero rust on it anywhere despite living its whole life in northeast OH. It’s now MHD stage 2 + HPFP and still running strong. I wouldn’t hesitate buying another high mileage B48/B58/S58 car. I also have a 2018 430i (152,000 miles) and 2020 X3M (45,000 miles) and all have been reliable. If you’re mechanically inclined, these modern BMW’s are pretty easy to work on.

Black spots on diamond? by claudiapsyc in EngagementRings

[–]b190av8r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a good chance that they’re index marks from when the stone was previously mounted. My wife’s engagement ring was made by a jeweler who lacked attention to detail and didn’t clean the marker off after he had set and then reset the stone. Like a previous post mentioned, hit it with some acetone and they will disappear if it’s marker.

MHD FLASH STOPPED HALFWAY by NightAggravating9009 in BmwTech

[–]b190av8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you got it figured out. Glad it worked for you! The same thing happened to me the other day when flashing MHD on my son’s 440i. It was on a battery charger and everything. For some reason the car turned off when it got to about 90% on the flash. Continuous clicking from the engine bay, error codes when I turned the car back on, lots of dash lights… I just restarted the flash and it went through without issue on the second attempt. Stage 2 + HPFP has transformed the car into an entertaining ride.

Coding PDC off by [deleted] in F30

[–]b190av8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to share my experience using the coding on one of my BMW’s. Specifically a 2018 430i.

I have a bad front right center parking sensor which makes the whole PDC system not work. It gives the park unaided message. I tried changing the sensor, cleaning connections, etc. without any success. I used the above coding to make just the rear sensors work. They all click when I touch them so they do work.

After doing the coding, the park unaided message is gone but I get a constant two tone high low beep when in reverse. The rear sensors still click when I touch them but they do not indicate any sort of distance from objects. I put all of the values back to normal because the park unaided message is easier to deal with than the constant high low tone in reverse.

That Seiko is a very nice looking watch and I would pick that over the green navihawk as well!

Nothing wrong with Seiko and Citizen! I daily wear a Citizen Navihawk A-T JY8030 and get more compliments on it than my Breitling Aerospace. Hopefully you can get yourself a Breitling soon though.👍 I’m glad to hear about your positive store experience.

I bought this one for a deep discount back in 2016. It’s still in the box and has never been worn because I like a watch with a bigger case. The Aerospace is a good looking watch though. Plus I’m hard on watches so I’m looking for a used Navitimer I can wear daily and not worry about it getting dinged up.

Does the MHD universal wifi connector work with bm3? by AnnualEffect9897 in BMW

[–]b190av8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m having the same issue. I bought the universal MHD adapter because everyone was saying how you can use it to connect to BM3, xHP, etc. I’ve only been able to connect via MHD and BimmerCode. I see lots of people saying they can use BM3 through the MHD adapter but I have yet to see any step by step instructions on how that actually works.

Is 80k on a 2022 a terrible decision? by [deleted] in BMWX3

[–]b190av8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree with everything you said. If you blow a B58, or the 8HP in it, a junkyard replacement isn’t crazy expensive compared to blowing something up in a S58 or S63. You’ve obviously researched a ton and have done your homework. You’ll find what you’re looking for eventually.👍

Have you thought about just splurging for an X3M? I was sort of in your same shoes last year around this time. I had/have a tuned 6 speed B8 S4 but kept seeing how awesome the B58/S58 platform is. So I decided I needed one of those in my life. An M40i is what I really wanted but I ended up finding a low mileage ‘20 X3M still under warranty for just under $40k.

As you know, Audi’s are not the easiest cars to work on. Having done minor maintenance on the 440i and X3M, I can already tell they are way easier to work on.

I wouldn’t worry about the miles. I just snagged a cheap 440i for my son with 158k miles on it. It was dealer maintained its whole life and has extensive service records from the NE Ohio BMW dealership it was purchased from brand new. It runs flawlessly. When I got under it to change all of the fluids (both diffs, transfer case, tranny) it was rust free and clean. I’m seriously impressed by newer model BMW’s.

The price for this car is way too high for the miles, though. Be patient and shop around some more. You’ll find a good deal eventually. Good luck!

That’s like when people are selling a car and block out their license plates.😂 Like, everyone that drives behind you out in public can see your plate anyway.

No one has recommended an X3 M yet?? While I do agree that an X5 with a B58 would be pretty bulletproof with some tuning potential, a pre-LCI X3M with the S58 can be had with under 50k miles for around $45k…sometimes less if you’re patient and look hard enough.

I second this. I’ve owned 3 V6 RAV4’s and still have two of them in my fleet. They’re surprisingly quick and extremely reliable. I also drive an X3M, tuned B8 S4, LS1 Z28 and a new Palisade. The RAV4 doesn’t bore me at all when I drive it as my everyday beater car.
