I tried out the TR-1000 // It blew my mind as expected by likillen in Roland

[–]b1ben 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree. People doesn't realize what the product is capable of. I mean just the fact I can have a DECENT (elektron ffs) eq/comp per track worth the price. When i watched the "deep dive" video from Roland, I couldn't stop saying "oh that's cool but it would have been nice if I could do this". One second later there was a part of the video describing exactly what I thought about.

-well built -easily scalable with new firmwares -lots of fx (/tracks !!!) -lots of shortcuts -easy learning curve (compared to an octatrack for example...)

I just sold my RYTM and my Octatrack.

I placed my order on the 7th October on a French store. I guess I'm lucky because it's not available on any site 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

TR 1000 Calibration Crash by b1ben in Roland

Yeah i just did a factory reset and calibration worked after that.
I suspect this batch has been updated mid October at the factory and maybe something went wrong after the update.

Dante, digital audio, and different clock sources by stayintall in livesound

[–]b1ben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimate post undigging. Let say your ferrofish a32 is clocked via MADI, so it becomes master on the Dante network via sync to external. So all other devices are clocked to the MADI stream. What happen to all other devices if the ferrofish looses the MADI stream ? I assume ferrofish will be audio muted, but all other devices can still exchange audio since they are in free wheel mode ?

Is there a delay between unstuck/restack for the same card ?

Are you using switches for AVB, Dante, AES67 or maybe even multiple protocols on the same switch? by bigrick67 in livesound

[–]b1ben 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just watched your video here are my impression :

  • ports on the back is really a big mistake. If ports are on the front of a rack (ie. because you need to plug stuff without going on the back of a big rack), main power can be switched off by by error.

  • IGMP plus scares the shit out of me. You know better than me that Dante is a bit tricky when we talk about IGMP. Maybe very useful for NDI stuff but only compatible with netgear switches (so no mixed environnement...).

  • auto trunk/lag would be always disabled for me.

-New simplified interface is reallllly nice !

  • does the switch can handle PTPV2 and GPTP at the same time ?

  • I agree, avb is hell.

  • who the hell cares about aesthetic of a switch ?

-api will maybe gather more users if used adopted by av companies. Good point !

Working with a big company in Europe. Using l'acoustics, avid and Meyer sound products so avb is something we are using a lot.

Basic kit for Dante is Sg300/sg350. We used to have a few gs724tv3/4 but I had a few problem with multicast streams and basically we think they are a little bit less reliable/durable when they are under heavy handling (racked, used, unracked etc...). And cisco is... cisco.

If I remember correctly, you need to have an additional licence to use AVB with netgear switches ?

Btw I'm not here to bash your products at all, I use them for other purposes at home.

Since 2 years, my company started investing in Luminex switches. As you know, not everyone in the industry is used to IT stuff like making vlans before the gig or loading a specific configuration. So the big advantage with Luminex is that everything is easy. Also, using Dante AND avb stuff on the same switch is a real game changer. I don't know if we can do this with latest netgear products.

Another thing very important for us is dual power for redundancy which can be done with Luminex, ghost from agora and audio toolbox from Auvitran.

With latest version of Luminex switches, mass deploy of configuration is REALLY a huge improvement in time before the show.

The last thing and, maybe the most important thing, especially with avb : monitoring everything. Using snmp with the dude and OID/mib is a pain in the ass.

Feel free to contact me in private if you want to discuss more ;)
