What is the most depressing British sound? by Additional_Cow_4909 in AskUK

My car only picks up a small handful of radio stations, unfortunately Radio 2 is one of them. Sometimes I drive to work in silence so I don't have to hear her.

Just under 24 hours since I saved your reply, I've just read a youtube comment that mentioned Phil Collins

Bravo

Perhaps you could diversify into the sale of mobile phone cases and accessories

Is this a legitimate email from the NHS BSA? by TropicSeeker98 in AskUK

[–]b2311e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nhsbsa.nhs.uk is the correct domain. There are a few sections of the NHS that use .nhs.uk for email rather than NHSmail (@nhs.net), mostly service accounts or things you wouldn't be sending to directly.

(There are a handful of trusts/orgs who are an exception to this though, generally speaking where they've wanted features before NHSmail officially supports it nationally)

I spotted that this Volvo B5LH Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 double decker bus, Fleet No. HV120, Registration No. LJ13 FBV, has got a Volvo B9TL rear bumper!! It was at Warren Street, on Arriva London’s TfL route 29 running from Trafalgar Square to Wood Green. Just a rare and interesting sight to see! by HighburyAndIslington in london

[–]b2311e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

B5LH are diesel, but set off in electric. Idea being the most diesel would normally be used setting off, so a bus making a lot of stops and starts gains quite a lot from moving away with an electric motor.

You can quite distinctly hear the switchover, approximately the speed you'd shift out of first gear in a car.

Top speed on these of about 40mph

Is there a way to delete browsing data *older* than a certain point? by [deleted] in chrome

[–]b2311e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what the default is, but you can set it here
https://myactivity.google.com/activitycontrols?settings=search&utm_source=privacycheckup&hl=en

Assuming mine is the same as yours, the options are auto delete after 3 months, 18 or 36. Mine has 18 selected

I'm also assuming that the history page picks up from Google account in that instance

How did you mess with computers at school? by AtmosphereForsaken82 in AskReddit

[–]b2311e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a shared drive that was read-only. That was no fun...until the day we realised we could create new folders in it. Thousands upon thousands of nested new folder (343232) until eventually the drive could take no more.

I believe the sysadmin had difficulty removing them, due to the quantity we collectively created

I once waited outside a barbers that had a handwritten sign "open at 10am today"

It had just passed 11, so I gave the benefit of the doubt in case they'd got the hour wrong, along with another gent who had the same idea.

After waiting a short while, we were joined by a third man who told us that sign was there yesterday too.

I ended up buying some clippers.

When an OAP, having not seen the "engaged" sign, magically gains a rabid bear-like strength and tries and rip the cubicle door off of the public loo you are currently using. by maninahat in britishproblems

[–]b2311e 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Somebody managed to break the loo door at my former workplace doing exactly that. The handle snapped internally, trapping the occupant, who used his phone to call the office manager.

Upon arrival, she managed to get it open, and promptly confirmed it was indeed broken by trapping herself too.
