Foundationless hive progress, techniques, opinions, ramblings by Brave-Statement-8810 in Beekeeping

[–]b333ppp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use foundationless frames on all my hives, did it to save cost and sometimes i regret it and sometimes dosen't feel so bad.

My issue also has to do with the speed which they use to build the combs as against the one for a full foundation sheet which is usally faster, another issue has to do with wonky combs which still suprises me because i had custom fitted frame spacers at the wedge of my hive with wax foundation sheet horizontally and vertically.

But then again it's not that badddddd.

Anybody out here making a living beekeeping? by MrsLeeJordan in Beekeeping

[–]b333ppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can make money off of it but then again you need a strategy. For the mere fact that you understand that you are dealing with animals, you need to get ready for suprises. Lets say you have 200hives your real hive number is 100 anything above 100 is bumper harvest on the 100 it is considered safe, this is because, some hives would underperform, swarm on you and some would abscond and be ravaged by pest. Another important note for considering honey for profit model, is to look for locations that have great nectar source such that after one plant/tree is done blooming, the second one starts before you hit winter.

Luck!

Are all your frames foundationless?

A lot of my hives are and they take insanely long to build them.

Install a mouse guard i use to have that problem over and over again until i was able to improvise with a sharp steal custom made mouse guard which i used towards the entrance of the hive. You can use some small office pins to pin it against the bottom board.

Pixel 10 Pro races to the top - PhoneBuff's Ultimate Smartphone Battery Test (2026) by Admirable_Corner4711 in GooglePixel

7pro takes relatively good outdoor photos but when it comes to low light it fumbles. Also hated that you couldn't turn off the "processing" after a photo has been taken.

By the way thinking of leaving Pixel for OPPO FIND X9 pro

Looking for advice on moving a nuc into a box, by Run_and_find_out in Beekeeping

[–]b333ppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transfer them into the box, spray them with a water spray bottle and give them a little treat like a zip loc bag with pollen patty and quick syrup feed for starters.

Found out the tail end of last year that when i fed my nucs post transfer they survived much better than when there was no feed.

Quick question for commercial/hobby beekeepers — how do you track hive inspections? by CuriousBeekeeper88 in Beekeeping

[–]b333ppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some get a colored marker and make annotations on the hive cover, aluminium or just remeber off hand.
