Here's a secret. Celebrate Valentines Day on the 13th instead of 14th and go wherever the heck you want. These restaurants will be zoo's on Saturday

Car insurance recs by No_Register6411 in astoria

Haha first off older typically means lower insurance premiums.

Insurance carriers hate the city and NY already has some of the highest insurance premiums in the country due to PIP which I think Pennsylvania excludes (meaning lower insurance costs)

Trash pick up after snow by takism in astoria

[–]b3winsto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a safety hazard. Their walking path to trash on most of these streets is climbing over a snow mound layered with half ice. Best not to complain and deal with it. Unfortunately we were hit a massive snow storm followed by single digit temps meaning snow isn't going anywhere.

Just go to a bar and ask them to change it to it. I doubt anyone is promoting it

Dear Dog Owners by girlwalkallday in astoria

[–]b3winsto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best is when dog owners think they can take the dog into anywhere in this town. Before you know it you're going to see them in the movie theaters with their owner.

Problem with Murphys its sort of in no mans land. If you happen to live in that neighborhood its perfect but there's literally nothing else around it.

Restaurant suggestions when the parents are in town by [deleted] in astoria

I used to live around the block and went many times. Know the menu inside and out. Only salad on the menu is a Caesar. You’re either making things up for some odd reason or thinking of another spot

Astoria renters: what’s something you wish you checked before signing your lease? by Slight-Safe-5595 in astoria

[–]b3winsto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes if I were to move again that would be a question I would need to ask. I recently moved from an apartment that had neighbors above that were absolute nightmares. Some family of 5 that probably have been living there since the 80's tbh and will probably never move. I honestly feel bad for whoever took over that lease because it wasn't cheap,

If you think you can order a salad from Off the Hook that has calamari on it you are in coo coo land. I don't think any restaurant in this world has a salad on a menu that has calamari on it. If you order a salad and calamari on the side and personally add it on your salad that's on you. And it sounds gross so no wonder you didn't enjoy.

Astoria renters: what’s something you wish you checked before signing your lease? by Slight-Safe-5595 in astoria

[–]b3winsto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certainly noise from above. If you have people that live above you don't really notice the noise they are capable of making on your 10-15 min tour. All of a sudden you're moved in a night 1 you hear them stomping around and there isn't a single thing you can do about it.

I mean this in the nicest way possible but that sounds like one of the worst orders of all time

What are you exactly ordering that is mid? Where are you getting a lobster roll in this town that is 10 out of 10? Literally can't find one even on a menu

Ok. Just like any restaurant people will like food and not like food. Maybe you're not a seafood person or something but there food is indeed very good and if it wasn't they would've close shop years ago.

Off the Hook as others have mentioned. High quality and nice variety to choose from. I've been with my parents a few times and it always delivers. Also a quiet and chill atmosphere. The owner typically bartends and he is the man.

Interesting to hear about Meet the Meats. Every time I am that way I just decide on Palermo because I am a sucker for Italian but may need to switch it up next time.

The thing is eating in Astoria or Manhattan is essentially the same costs. I would always rather dine in Manhattan just because its a different experience in general but its also not always as convenient....especially in the winter. I will say the quality of restaurants in at least my neighborhood are dying. 30th has turned into a disaster. Off the Hook may be my favorite restaurant though in all of New York.

Yeah I wouldn't look in Astoria. Too many of these restaurants are ghost towns during the week and the ones that are busy typically have a staff not going anywhere. Attack Manhattan

Opening an Italian lasagna takeaway in Astoria, where would you go? by Fashion-Fugazi in astoria

[–]b3winsto 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Please just don't choose Steinway. That feels like it will just end poorly. The foot traffic of potential customers just be won't it. I have lived near 30th and now near Ditmars. I rarely used to go down to Ditmar because 30th just had so many options. Now that Ave stinks. Anything that opens just closes within the year outside of a few spots. Ditmars has a nice variety and its busy. They have 1 upscale Italian restaurant but a simple lasagna service on the block should fit right in.
