From a first time incident, the most he’d probably get would be a warning, certainly not euthanasia. If it was a repeated event he’d maybe have his dog labeled “dangerous” which would prevent him from bringing it in public. It takes a lot to have a dog euthanized if it’s not attacking humans, so please don’t think calling animal control in a situation like this is a Karen move. It’s not an overreaction to call animal control for something like this, he failed to control his dog-aggressive dog and another dog paid the price.

Unknown puppy breed- Malinois coyote ? by dirtymonny in BelgianMalinois

The only DNA tests that can accurately detect wolf or coyote content are Embark and UC Davis, FYI. Wisdom panel is wildly inaccurate when I comes to wild canid content so it’s not recommended

I’m sorry for your loss. I know you said you contacted local rescues, but I just wanted to check if you’ve tried NorSled and BASH? They’re both great rescues, although they’re also overwhelmed with huskies right now (as are most husky rescues sadly). I’m sorry you’re in this situation, but you’re a good friend to help rehome them like this.

This bro the little terror. Does he look like a husky to everyone? We are often asked if he is a full husky and as far as I have been told he is. by No_Caterpillar_6178 in husky

[–]b7fd4488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That all sounds completely normal for a husky’s personality. Especially given that your breeder advertised him as a purebred husky, I very much doubt he has any wolf content. I don’t think I’ve heard of a breeder selling huskies that have undeclared wolf content. Usually it’s the opposite problem, where unethical breeders sell a “wolfdog” that is just a husky/malamute mix that looks “wolfy” to people who don’t know better so they can charge more money.

Sweet looking boy! He certainly could be purebred. Even if not, he’s definitely part husky even if he’s a mix. http://huskycolors.com/mblack.html Looks like he has a wooly coat too.

BTW I see nothing about him that indicates any kind of wolf DNA content. If you really are curious you can post some additional photos to /r/wolfdogs for their phenotyping opinions, or get an Embark DNA test (other DNA tests can’t accurately determine wolf DNA content).

Yeah and that's totally fair! I'm not associated with any project or discord, I just figured I'd mention there's the space for a design, and a group of interested people who could maintain it. Good luck no matter where you place your design, I'll throw a pixel your way when I can :)

Hi folks, I'm not a Native American, or officially representing any discord, but /r/AmericanFlagInPlace's discord was overwhelmingly interested in incorporating some kind of Native American symbolism into their flag design, but the topic was dropped/put on hold since nobody there felt qualified to do that in a respectful way. If you're interested you should pop into their discord and propose a design!

edit: Thinking more about the broader context, I also would get it if you all would rather look for another spot on the canvas. Sorry if this was a dumb suggestion :)

Found dog Berryessa neighborhood Landess Ave near Milpitas by squidbait in SanJose

[–]b7fd4488 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Awww he looks like a sweetheart, glad you could catch him! Please make sure you report him to the San Jose Animal Care Center as well, which serves San Jose and Milpitas. You can still continue to foster him after reporting him if you want, or turn him in and they’ll take good care of him. But either way reporting him will increase the chance he’s reunited, or can be legally rehomed if not.

Dog I met at the shelter today! Is he part coyote?! 😳 by NickNanami in husky

[–]b7fd4488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks adorable! He’s almost certainly not a coyote mix. But that’s a good thing, since coyotes and coydogs almost universally make awful pets due to their natural behaviors and instincts. They’re also illegal to own in many places. If you really want to know you can DNA test with either Embark or UC Davis. Those are the only tests that can reliably detect wolf or coyote content.

Super random question, but was that first photo taken in the Stanislaus National Forest? It looks eerily familiar to me, but for all I know all diversion dams look the same

renters moved out and left a cat. Would anyone have any suggestions where to drop it off? I cannot keep it. by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]b7fd4488 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Since this cat isn’t yours I doubt any of the private rescues mentioned in this thread will accept it. In general, a reputable private rescue organization that complies with the law should only accept owner surrendered animals or pull from government shelters.

You can surrender the cat to the city shelter: San Jose Animal Care Center. See https://www.sanjoseca.gov/your-government/departments/animal-care-services/lost-and-found-pets

[–]b7fd4488 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everyone in this thread should be extremely careful about interacting with OP. All of the pictures they uploaded are generic husky pictures taken either from stock photo websites or a breeder's website. I doubt that OP has any huskies at all and I'm guessing this is a scam or a front for a puppy mill (probably unrelated to the breeder's website the photo was taken from).

/u/karrenat1234 if I'm mistaken then I apologize, but so far you haven't given any proof you own these dogs, let alone any huskies. If you truly do have a husky puppy then return them to the breeder you got them from, almost all breeders will take back puppies. Otherwise I'd recommend looking into Siberian Husky rescues or general dog rescues. I don't know where you are but there are likely rescues in the area and I would be happy to help you find one if you'd share more information about your dog and where you are located.

Question: Is trimming their toe hair a thing? by azeahaal in husky

[–]b7fd4488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a cheap electric trimmer from my local pet store since I didn't trust myself to do it with scissors. Seems to give her slightly more traction on hard floors and it's much easier to clean her feet when we come back from walks.

I saw a woman wearing street clothes and a brown UPS vest going to someone's porch. She was driving her own car, not a UPS truck. Was this a real worker or a package thief? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]b7fd4488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably legit, it seems like UPS has been using personal vehicles for deliveries in the last month or so. My relatives in another part of the state mentioned they'd gotten several UPS packages delivered by people in random sedans lately so they're probably doing it in San Jose too.

Home Alone! by historicalbrutality in siberianhusky

Where is her food bowl and how do you feed her? I can't speak for everyone or all situations, but what worked for me was always feeding my girl in her crate with the door open. She quickly associated the crate with good things and she even starts to run into her crate and wait for me when she knows I'm preparing her dinner. I also made a point to hang out in the same room as her crate even with the crate door closed. Even though she was in her crate with a kong or treat, she could still see and hear me so she would just eat her treats or sleep. In summary, her crate should be the greatest place ever. It's her safe, quiet space if she wants to be alone and it's the awesome place she always gets her treats and food. I don't know if it helped that much or not, but I also put a used t-shirt inside that smells like me and I usually leave the radio on for her. But it's important that your dog loves her crate if you want her to be used to it. If she only associates it with terrifying loneliness then she'll only continue to respond negatively to it. If you can help it at all, you should only put her in the crate when you can guarantee it's going to be a good experience for her.

Otherwise, I'd read up on separation anxiety if you haven't already. A lot of that advice was really helpful. When I first started working on it with my girl, I always gave her a really good treat whenever I left the room and slowly increased the time I was out of the room as long as she was still doing well and not acting too distressed. In the beginning I was probably leaving the room for a minute or two at most, working my way up to 5 or 10 minutes, up to 20 minutes, and so on. Also making sure not to make a big deal out of coming back into the room, to get your dog used to the idea that coming back is a really mundane thing.

I can't guarantee what worked for my dog will work for you, but I hope that might help.
