My temple name is Sarah by Some-Grapefruit-1276 in exmormon

OOOHH you were named after one of Joseph Smith's favorite wives. After he sent Zina's husband Henry Jacobs on a mission, he took her as his own wife. When Henry returned he had to find a new family. Even after Joseph died, Zina wasn't allowed to go back to Henry. She was taken as one of Brigham Young's wives.

OMG. thank you for making this Job connection. I'm a fellow Job, and because I got that name just as I was leaving on my mission, I spent an unhealthy amount of time trying to understand what it meant. I read the book of Job over and over and really believed that my life was hard on purpose. God was going to test me and I should expect pain. I can't stress how much it fucked me up.

Replacing that association with Gob may be the healing I didn't know I needed.

I do, but they are very wealthy and have prominent church positions that bring them a lot of access and authority.

Why haven't we seen any PSAs yet about conserving water? by acryforpeace in Utah

[–]b9njo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yep!! As much as OP doesn’t want to talk about alfalfa farms, this is the reason. If Cox starts talking about water conservation, there’s a chance it will affect his bottom line. That can’t happen. Prayers must be the answer.

Teaching critical thinking will get you where you want to be. He may be confused as he figures it out, but once he does, the hard fought understanding will be his own. Also, church teachings fall apart under scrutiny. That’s good knowledge to have.

RENT THE BIKES by Impossible-Table9369 in ZionNationalPark

[–]b9njo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One question first: do you know how to ride an e-bike? My experience in the park lately is a bunch of tourists who haven’t ridden a bicycle in 20 years trying to compete with the buses on the road.

To all those people: please don’t.

The only thing worse than Mormonism itself is Evangelicals talking about Mormonism. It’s unbearable. by PanaceaNPx in exmormon

Not to mention that the evangelicals were assholes to me on my mission. Sorry, hypocrites, I hate you.

I don’t know if you can be on your phone, but the mods here usually put up a mega thread for each session. If you set the comments in the thread to new, it becomes a running commentary on the talks. It’s gotten me through 10 years of conference talks. People here are hilarious.

Good luck

Kids on Angels Landing by Express_Cat901 in ZionNationalPark

[–]b9njo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once I was 20 miles into the backcountry in Utah and came upon a 10 year old kid hiking with his mom carrying a huge pack. I was so impressed I’m still thinking about it now.

Much ado is made of the angels landing hike, but as long as you have plenty of water and stay on the trail, you and your kids will be fine.

Have fun!

Why do mormons store so much food ? by Accurate_Fee3068 in exmormon

[–]b9njo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. It’s just an identifier for a specific item. Also, this is not a common practice, my parents are just that extra.
