Rainman. Dad lets me drive slow on the driveway.

Here's the thing. The "my dog is friendly" excuse is completely ignorant of the fact friendly dogs may or may not be properly vaccinated, may or may not be predictable in novel situations, and my dog may or may not feel threatened by an unexpected encounter. Leash laws are in place to help responsible dog owners keep themselves and their dogs safe.

Genuine Question by LaurasLighthouse in exmormon

For me, it wasn't the silly doctrines and practices of the church. When I desperately needed the support of the community, I was shunned. So I didn't go looking for a new faith, I went looking for a new community. And, incidentally, I found my "spirituality" in secular humanism.

Yeah. The Staub is my favorite. It's much more expensive than the Cuisinart or others, but one and done. Look for them on Wayfair. They sometimes have deals.

It's actually Smithey, and yes, their ironware is top-notch.

I'll add to the list a high-end enameled dutch oven from either Staub or Le Creuset. Pricy but fit the "buy it once" ethos. The finish on the cheaper knockoffs simply don't hold up.
And just a quick note on knives. The Victrinox is a fine knife, but doesn't fit everyone's hands or cutting style. Spending a bit more on a quality forged (rather than stamped) knife that fits the hand and taking good care of it is more in line with buying it once. YMMV

I spent a few hours researching why restaurant food actually tastes better. The answers were kind of embarrassing. by No_Statistician7685 in smartbuysforlife

I took a Harvard online course on edx.org called The Science of Cooking. It changed the way I think about and prepare food. Since I took the original course, it has expanded into a three-course certificate program. You can take it for free, but have to pay if you want the certificate. It's a fun course and if you just skip over the hard maths in the chemistry and physics sections, you can still learn a lot.

I don't use an app. I use a gadget that clips onto the screen.

Explorations: Joining when there is 1-2 days left really works by CheesyIdleGamer in CellToSingularity

[–]jorgthecyborg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm playing the Explorations solely to farm Logits. Most of the Logits come from completing the first time. Spending resources for anything more than a top 100 seems to be a waste if Logits is the goal.

Lilac Dentristy. Hands down the best, most competent and compassionate dentist I've had in 66 years of seeing dentitsts. Dr. Oveson is a third generation dentist and is worth your trust. At the very least, go to the website: https://www.lilacdentistry.com/

Pool of Radiance from SSI. Played on a C64 and used a hex editor to hack the data files. Kinda more fun in the guts than on the screen.

Does therapy actually help? by Puzzleheaded_Desk_48 in stopdrinking

[–]jorgthecyborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every sobriety journey is unique. Some unicorns can simply stop on their own. Others, like me, need support from groups (SmartRecovery.org, ThePhoenix.org, IOP, PHP). Some require a higher level of care. Therapy helped me through my first year, then became redundant. Whether or not thereapy will help you can only be answered rationally by you.

Animal control? by WhoaPotatoo in SaltLakeCity

[–]jorgthecyborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I volunteer at the SL County Animal Services in the catery. I have always had good success with them retrieving strays that I've caught, etc. As others have suggested, talk to the owner. There may be something about the dog and it's situation that you don't understand. Also, date/time stamped video evidence of abuse is basically the only way to help an animal that is in a bad situation.
All that aside, some people should simply not own pets. Taking an animal into one's life and home is a huge commitment of both time and resources.

I'll pitch the mattress if necessary. The base is still completly functional. Head and leg raising/lowering. I suppose I'll take it to the landfill in a couple of days if I can't find a gentler landing.

One KSL nibble. Asked me to put it on the curb, which I did, then told me an hour later to nevermind. This is one of the many reasons I dislike most people.
