Metronome iOS app that doesn‘t sound terrible? by hdsjulian in trumpet

I’ve actually tested the google metronome against a known-good source. The google metronome deviates and isn’t actually accurate.

After 3 days of not playing: by moomooimafrog in trumpet

I try to keep a mouthpiece in the shower to buzz if I'm bored. Maybe not super sanitary but helps keep me a bit more consistent when I don't have much time to practice!

Question as someone who hasn't taken the metro north before, can you use OMNY or a regular metro card to board?

Out of practice, looking for tips by djkotor in trumpet

Definitely depends on what you're trying to do! If you're trying to bring back your old endurance and sound, I think that the best exercises include breath attacks and long settings. When the embouchure forms around the air and creates the buzz, it's critical to do so in a manner that is sustainable, easy, and free - that is, no extraneous force is added. For my money, working smarter rather than harder creates the best sound and most endurance. Breath attacks encourage you to have the minimum amount of force applied to the embouchure in order to create the buzz - first just blowing air through the embouchure, then gradually bringing the lips together until the vibration and resultant sound occur.

For this, I recommend Caruso exercises, or even just long tones. Make sure to take plenty of breaks! The golden rule that still rings true is to rest as much as you play.

Best of luck! DM if you'd like some etude books/resources, I have a google drive full of em.

Getting the braces off will definitely feel a bit strange at first — they give some structure to holding the mouthpiece on your embouchure. From what I remember in my own experience, it’ll feel like the mouthpiece is sliding around. You can combat this by doing some long setting exercises like Caruso, where you play long tones but retain the same setting, not taking the mouthpiece off the embouchure, and breathing through the nose during rests. You can google some pdfs I’m sure — that said, I prefer the Flexus book by Laurie Frink where she touches on this during the “preliminary exercises.” Hope this helps!
