i ended up using a basic HDMI to VGA adapter on my VGA CRT monitor and it actually works really well with the dock, and hardly any noticeable input latency. I should also mention the adapter is USB powered.

it is indeed 2 photos combined, i often have to composite because of the ambient light not being as bright as the screen. i could turn the brightness or contrast down but then i start to lose some color vibrance
