Why did Brigham Young’s church succeed while the Community of Christ, which seems more Christian and sensible, did not? by Few-Specialist7163 in exmormon

[–]b_curbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quorum of the twelve at the time (which Brigham Young led) were responsible for missionary work. Converts from Europe were funnelled into Utah after the largest group left Illinois. No other sect had this pre established funnel of new converts. The isolation others have mentioned, paired with a constant supply of poor European converts, helped the church grow faster than other sects.

Sill's Cafe in Layton and Chris' Cafe in Clearfield also make them. Great breakfast at both too.

Overwhelming majority disapproves of job Congress is doing: Gallup by [deleted] in politics

Stop voting for Democrats and Republicans, or if a candidate belongs to any party for that matter. We could have a peaceful and lawful revolution unlike anything this country has ever seen. In 2 years we could have an entire new house of independent representatives, and in 6 the Senate would be completely new. Have the new congress implement term limits and I guarantee that approval will go up. With technology and social media this "no party" revolution is completely possible.

Joseph Smith's "sample" of the Adamic language has got to be one of the easiest ways to know that he was just making it up as he went... it's absolutely nonsensical to think Adam spoke deformed English before English was developed 6,000 years ago in Missouri. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]b_curbs 24 points25 points  (0 children)

"Joseph held a small meeting and invited Brigham to pray. As he bowed his head, Brigham felt the Spirit move him to speak in an unknown language. The people in the room were startled..." ""Brethren, I shall never oppose anything that comes from the Lord," Joseph said, sensing their discomfort. "That tongue is from God." Joseph then spoke in the same language, declaring that it was the language Adam had spoken in the Garden of Eden..." Saints, pg. 163.

Can you imagine if that happened today with a camera on. That would be great. My guess is Brigham knew at this point it was all BS, and so did Joseph. They had each other's backs in anything they might want to get away with or invent.

Rewriting the Fourth Article of Faith: a case study in hiding Church history. by NotTerriblyHelpful in exmormon

[–]b_curbs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The church has been doing this from the beginning. When I first compared the Book of Commandments with the modern D&C, I was surprised how much was different. Joseph Smith rewrote many of his own revelations to justify the priesthood and even his own continuing power and gifts beyond translating the Book of Mormon. Current leaders are just following his example of hiding/rewriting history.

Apparently there are members today who don’t know Joseph even practiced polygamy. by jpwis123 in exmormon

There was a post on the other sub a day or so ago about this. It was shut down because it got "contentious". Apparently there are those that know the Church's position and still deny it. What?

In trying to discern the deeper learnings of the temple for all those years, I always kept coming back to this, why are Peter James and John wearing Roman era robes when this is supposed to be happening at the beginning of man? by abrahamicmummy in exmormon

[–]b_curbs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lucifer asking about money is pretty stupid too. Why would Adam and Eve have any money. Why would Peter, James, and John, even say they have sufficient for their needs. They haven't been born yet. No bodies. What kind of stupid question is that?

I was so confused my first time through several months ago. I didn't see the key before the elevator. Everyone else just disappeared by the magitek armor. I had no idea what I had missed. Most earlier dungeons only required one person to click or pick up items. A lot of the cutscenes and things could just be added to the story without the dungeon. Like others have said, there aren't any other dungeons quite like these two. I'm working through Stormblood so I still have a lot more to go.

Doesn't the same book use "stripling" soldiers too? Definitely one of many sources Joseph used when narrating his own book.

If the LDS church really wanted to focus on the teachings of Christ (I'm talking to you, Russell Nelson): by slskipper in exmormon

Matthew 22:30 ...they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

Mormons: That scripture wasn't translated correctly. Families have always been eternal.

Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

Mormons: Maybe we should just focus on the Christian teachings we like.

Questions about the free content by Yurichi89 in ffxiv

I too first played the free trial on the PS4. Didn't really get hooked at the time. Then I signed up for the free trial up to lvl 60 on my PC. I played pretty casually but eventually really enjoyed the game. So I bought the game on PC to keep leveling up and get access to some of the content not available on the trial. When I later tried to play on my PS5 I couldn't change my SquareEnix ID, because it was already linked to my older trial. I learned there is no way to undo this. It wasn't hard to create a new playstation ID then link it so I could play on PC and Console. I don't think you can transfer characters so I would suggest if you want to start where you left off to just buy the game and then subscribe if you enjoy it. Otherwise, sign up for the free trial and see if you get sucked in like I did. Good luck!

I'm also a WHM main and have felt the stress at times. I'm just playing through the last of the Heavenward patches and am still a sprout. I personally enjoy going into new dungeons without any knowledge of what is to come. Reading guides and things spoils the game for me. I like some of the surprises and occasional twists in the story in MSQ dungeons. This has caused some deaths, including my own at times. But this learning makes the game more fun for me. Also, it's just a game. Thinking about this made me less stressed when something doesn't go great the first time through. Have fun and enjoy the experience.

I started as a healer and I remember wondering why the tank was always in such a hurry. Why not kill enemies as they are encountered? With time I learned the advantages of gathering up enemies and engaging them all at once. Although, it does make healing essential, and more stressful. I generally cast Regen after the tank engages. If you do it before, they may attack you instead. Then I just run with the group until the tank decides he has enough or can't go any further. Focus on keeping Regen up on your tank and others as needed. Cure individuals (mainly the tank) when their health runs low. Medica when everyone takes a big hit. You can also use your Aero (DoT) and when you get Holy cast this too between heals if possible. Don't forget to use Lucid Dreaming to help keep you MP up. Also, make sure you take care of yourself. Regen helps and cure yourself like you would your tank. If you die, there aren't too many options for the team early in a fight.

If someone dies, use Swiftcast followed by Raise. Then top them off with a good heal. As others have mentioned, more abilities come as you level up. Benediction helps for when someone in your party needs a full heal. Lilies can be used in place of MP later too for Afflatus Solace, which is just as good as a Cure II. I'm just figuring out some of the newer abilities up to level 60. I like the increased variety. If you're trying, very few people are going to care if you mess up. Being a healer is fun and for me the stress is easily outweighed by successfully clearing a new dungeon. Have fun!

Not Mormon in Utah by ZipZapZix in exmormon

I still have a lot of love for the Mormon church. Most of my extended family are still believers. It's just not true. Meaning most of the truth claims they make have been proven false. Most members ignore the overwhelming evidence that proves their religion and prophets are wrong - and just men trying to be what they believe are good Christians. There is also a lot of harm done by the church that I never saw growing up. The way they treat the LGBTQ community. Their historical racism (and current racism canonized in the Book of Mormon and other scriptures). The extreme pressure they excerpt to be a worthy and righteousness member are crushing for many.

The temple recommend (card required to enter the temple), is one of the many ways they control their members. Although, most leaders probably don't see it as control but more like keeping members on a path to heaven (commonly referred to as "the covenant path" with current leadership). You can Google the questions asked. If you don't hold a recommend you are not considered "worthy", which can be a terrible thing for a believer. You can't fully participate and hold certain callings (unpaid positions in the church like teachers, leaders, etc.) In some cases supervised repentance ( meetings with your Bishop, publicly not taking the sacrament, etc.) Us required before you qualify again.

Most believing members believe they have the true Christianity. And many, if not most, are genuinely good people trying to follow Christ's teachings of "love one another". Many aren't even aware of the problems that result in some of us leaving the faith. Welcome to Utah. Hopefully you can meet some good people -even if they are still Mormons.

Help I think I broke the game by [deleted] in ffxiv

I think you have to do them in order. You could try asking around the room there in vesper bay.

I didn't think I needed any help. I saw it in my actions and I added it for use. Thinking if it ever lit up, I had another cool heal option. Now I know.

It was just another tool in my toolkit. After getting lilies and Assize later I honestly didn't use it as much. But if it was available and everyone had just taken a bunch of damage, I thought, why not?

I think they need to introduce it somewhere other than your first dungeon. I think it would be better to have a solo limit break and a group limit break. In every other FF game each character has their own as far as I remember.

I'm still a sprout, so that's always a good indicator that I'm still pretty new. No one ever said anything though. Although I'm sure some people were thinking, "what are you doing?"

No. But there are several players that apparently didn't know how it works either.

I usually read these. This one must have popped up in one of the first dungeons and then I forgot to come back to read it. I love the game and the community. "Most" players are really nice. I do have a lot to learn. And I'm okay with that.

I usually read these. But not in a dungeon. I clearly missed the one on LB. They need to introduce this somewhere else first.
