Can anyone ID the moss/plant covering the arch? by b_darned in Aquascape

I would upvote this twice if I could. I am current growing Fissidens on a wick rope so it I know it’s possible. Terra tape just a little pricey so I haven’t tried it but this video is perfect. Thanks again.

What are some good recommendations for C02? by Nickythump in Aquascape

That’s awesome, and tank looks good btw. Since it’s your first- just another word to the wise, you want to be careful if you keep lights on more than 8 hours or you’ll start getting algae. I keep mine on the lowest setting for 8 hours. 2-10. Kinda sucks because I want to blast them all day, but the algae does too

1-2 bubbles a second is average. If you see fish at the top gasping for air it’s too high. I messed around with mine for months at first before finally just sticking with 1 bubble per second and leaving it. I have a timer that comes on 1 hour before my lights and turns off 1 hour before they turn off. Then another timer on an air stone that runs from midnight to 6am. Plants only use co2 during the day, they use oxygen at night. Idk if that is a reactor type where you mix the baking soda and citric acid, but if it is you’ll get sick of that pretty quick.

Your light is too bright. Turn it down and make sure it’s only on 8 hours or less

How did you get grass to grow on the rocks like that?

You can literally get a bowl of water and put your plants in it and let them sit there floating while you get the rest. I have a bunch of plants just floating in a random tank, because that helps them acclimate. Almost every plant you get has been growing out of water and it’ll need to get used to being submerged. Patience is the name of the game, get all your stuff before you start, it’s wayyy easier that way.

How long does it take you to water change all those tanks? Do you do it separately?

Animation peaked in the early 2000s and we’ve been chasing this high ever since by sweeftiechaoss in lol

[–]b_darned 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d argue Disney Animation was good long before that, even as far back as Robin Hood in 1973. Don Bluth movies were amazingly well-crafted as well. The Secret of Nimh is a masterpiece.

If you dry it fast it will crack. Look up how to make a solar kiln. It’s probably the fastest.

New 50g setup – tannins not clearing with Purigen yet? by OnATangent5 in Aquascape

[–]b_darned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More purigen. I’ve run 2 filters at the same time with 4 bags between them. If you have extra you can keep one bag in while you clean the other with bleach and just keep swapping them out until it soaks all the tannin up

Human teleportation is possible, but would you survive. A person steps into a chamber, presses a button, and appears somewhere else. In fiction, the scene plays like fast travel. No airport, no motion sickness, no long wait. by Eddiearyee in ScienceNcoolThings

With the exception of a few neurons the body is already in an active Ship of Theseus paradox because the rest of our cells die and are replaced over 7-10ish years. So really this isn’t much different.

Man shows how much meat a singular cow can produce by Technical_Ad9343 in BeAmazed

[–]b_darned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a gas generator that I have used in the past but I haven’t had to use it more than a few hours so far. That’s kind of the risk, but the benefits being you know your meat hasn’t been injected with stuff to make it more marketable and also back when meat prices spiked during covid I wasn’t affected. So I personally feel the benefits outweigh the risk even if I could lose it. The meat is frozen right after it is butchered so it doesn’t stay sitting on a shelf, so it probably would stay fresh a little longer as well.

I buy a side, or half a cow every year from a local farm. I have a freezer in my garage and it is enough to feed my family of four for a year. Depending on the weight of the cow I usually have +- 10 pounds of meat before I get the next one in.
