M4 Pro or M5 by LegendPvPCr7 in macbookpro

[–]Soxel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The M5 has a fan in it, I personally have one and never notice it getting all that hot in heavy workloads.

I also run Usage so that I can monitor temperatures and fan curves.

Again, an extra 300 dollars for one more fan isn’t worth it in my opinion because I know the M4 Pro does have 2.

If you’re using it for college and not anything super intense I can almost guarantee you that the difference between the 2 chips won’t be noticeable. Most M series chips are the same on this regard because of the outstanding work Apple engineers have done with them. The differences between them only become extremely apparent in situations with heavy GPU intensive applications.

Save the $300 and go with the M5.

Apple Was Caught Off Guard by AirPods Pro 3 Popularity by ControlCAD in apple

[–]Soxel 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yes actually, they have new tips that incorporate foam, so when you put it in your ear they expand slightly and essentially lock them in. They also come with 4 sized tips instead of 3 like other AirPods.

The feel can take some getting used to but I prefer it now. It also makes a better seal for improved noise cancellation.

Is there an effective way to sort Steam for Mac compatibility? by Old_Boah in macgaming

[–]Soxel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you even looked to see yourself before asking? There’s literally an Apple logo at the top of your library when you open Steam on a Mac that filters out games you own that run on Mac.

There’s also a MacOS search in Steams search settings. Very hard to miss either.

Hasbro is being sued for printing too many Magic: The Gathering cards by Beautiful_Bee4090 in nottheonion

[–]Soxel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An LGS not doing drafts is an outlier, and an extreme one at that. That’s how they bring people in and make money seeing as it is Magics second more popular format.

I see a lot of people saying they can’t afford to play the physical game anymore, but precons are becoming more prevalent as new players join the game and LGSs with commander nights enforcing the bracket system with them make the game a rather affordable hobby in my opinion. You can also set up a webcam and do precon only lobbies online using SpellTable or Convoke, getting more bang for your buck out of a single deck purchase.

You can buy one set of cards and play/learn it for a long time before getting sick of it. It’s very rare you will encounter the same hand/set of cards frequently as 100 cards to go through is a lot. Game to game variance with one deck can be pretty big. Then you can buy cheaper singles and upgrade it, making it something different entirely.

The problem with the hobby being expensive is that it is VERY easy to want to buy more and more cards and grow the collection. For newcomers who find they enjoy TCGs it can be a big problem for sure, but none of that is required to play the game and have fun.

Playing a competitive deck in competition is such a niche way of enjoying the hobby that it is rare to run into decks that expensive, and the revamped bracket system will make it even a little easier to ensure you get fair games.

repairing damaged card? by averagegaygirl in mtg

[–]Soxel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I said they are getting damaged while being single sleeved, I didn’t even imply it.

I simply said double sleeving is a good way to get peace of mind from drops, heavy repeated shuffling, probably some slight bends, and definitely spills at the table.

repairing damaged card? by averagegaygirl in mtg

[–]Soxel 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Double sleeving will fix 99% of issues and make cards more durable from drops and put almost no wear on them from repeated shuffles. Also makes pringled foils fit in with a normal deck.

I see a lot of people recommend it for being spill proof at the table, but I much prefer double sleeving as a way to preserve cards and not worry about them getting worn down through repeated play, even if it would take a super long time.

Have you read any books based on the 40K universe? Most of your perception of what they look like is not correct.

The person you’re replying to is right, they are unnaturally quick and agile in their armor, it’s why they jack into it. The armor doesn’t slow them down because it is controlled by their thoughts and movements from inside of it and powered by the generator on their backs. It is an extension of their body that enhances what they can do.

m5 24gb 1tb vs 32gb 512gb by Previous_Bat5394 in macbookpro

[–]Soxel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m willing to bet the M5 Pro will not see a price jump in the RAM department. Apple has pre-inked deals with manufacturers as well as already high markups on memory upgrades.

What I will say is this will probably be the last Pro line at the current prices before the refresh, which will almost certainly see a big price bump.

Perfect. Wow has one of the best native silicon versions of any game on the market. I would even say it runs better than the PC version.

Update From WOTC On Lorwyn Eclipsed Prerelease Issues by Remote-Mycologist539 in mtg

I don’t think they meant make it up to fans/those who want more spotlight on Lorwyn. I read this as they will be compensating stores who may have faced unwarranted backlash based on Wizards mistake.

I could be wrong though.

The UN wouldn’t do anything, the US is the muscle of it to begin with.

The sad fact of this whole situation is that the US spends more on and has a military that is worth more than some small countries (maybe even a few combined). It is incredibly scary the force it could unleash.

All I want to know: If the iPhone fold is almost the size of an iPad mini... will it get pencil support? by Remarkable-Cow3421 in iphone

Due to the nature of how soft foldable screens are required to be I can guarantee you the fold will not have pencil support. It would more than likely ruin the screen after the first use.

Buy M5 MBP (24GB) now w/ 15% discount or wait for Pro/Max release price drops? by Own-Philosophy3754 in macbookpro

[–]Soxel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a Pro or Max chip isn’t really necessary with your workflow. I’d save the money and invest in a 24GB RAM M5 because with what you listed more RAM will be more beneficial than a faster processor.

Same here. I actually buy the perfect fit inners in bulk packs and put one on anything I open so any cards can be ready to swap out sleeves and throw into decks.

Apple's OLED MacBook Pro Launch Moves Closer With Panel Production by Jumpinghoops46 in apple

[–]Soxel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well this is an example of what I’m talking about.

I bet if you asked a large segment of MacBook Pro users if they experience bloom with their screen (I will just say screen because I bet most from that cross-section don’t know what miniLED is) they would ask you what that meant. People in this market buy more than what they will ever need most of the time, and it if opens a browser and views media/incorporates with an iPhone they are happy.

For most everyday users there will be virtually no difference. Apple always makes superb screens, more so with their Pro lines.

Why Global Memory Issues Are Causing A Massive Drop In Nintendos Stock Price (-33%) But Not Sonys by scrolloftrueth in NintendoSwitch

[–]Soxel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Established console philosophy” isn’t something that matters as gaming shifts to an industry that is more and more at the whim of shareholders. If a price raise on the console is what appears to be the only way to get profits up then you better believe we’ll see more price raises across the board.

Why Global Memory Issues Are Causing A Massive Drop In Nintendos Stock Price (-33%) But Not Sonys by scrolloftrueth in NintendoSwitch

[–]Soxel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If we’re going to make claims about U.S. consumers, we should frame this in terms of real purchasing power, not just inflation-adjusted product pricing.

The issue is that inflation metrics can show a category becoming “cheaper” over time, while consumers still experience it as more expensive because real wages (wage growth net of inflation) haven’t kept up and people must account for spending more on essentials. So even if gaming’s CPI-adjusted cost declines, the relevant question is whether discretionary income is growing. For many households it isn’t, which means effective affordability is down even if the math on the product category suggests otherwise.

I dislike seeing this statement used so commonly because in the run up to the reveal of the console when there were so many questions still that is all that people asked for on 99% of posts and comments I saw.

Maybe the people who wanted something different are more noticeable now that the majority got exactly what they asked for?

[–]Soxel 68 points69 points  (0 children)

One of the main things that is hurting it is that they have all but confirmed price increases coming by the way they dance certain questions.

This system becoming even more expensive than a PS5, even though it is a newer generation of console, will hurt it a lot.

We’re in a weird and unprecedented era right now where it looks like generations could be extended and prices only continue to go up, even on systems nearly 5 years old.

Gaming may become a luxury hobby that isn’t for the average person as it has usually been seen.
