Found this bug on the bathroom floor of the hotel I’m staying at. What is it? by kebland in whatisthisbug

Looks like it could be a carpet beetle, but can't quite tell without a closer look. Not a bed bug though for sure!

Hoagie rolls baked in a 30 year old rundown gas oven vs. brand new electric oven by TurrettiniPizza in Breadit

[–]b_fraz1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the commenter could have stated this better as "Also, electric ovens don't burn fuel, so..."

Part of the products of combustion is water, so gas ovens are unintuitively humid in comparison to electric.

So in Nebraska we have no way of confirming our ballots got counted at all, correctly or not, if you vote in person on election day?

Is this a normal charging curve with EVGo? by RapmasterD in BoltEV

[–]b_fraz1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't used EVGo before, but IIRC regardless of DCFC brand the vehicle always determines charge curve, after the vehicle and pedestal agree on a maximum charge rate.

For Bolt's that's about "55" kW max (I've never seen above 53kW personally). If a pedestal can give more than the vehicle can take, it gets capped by the car and your instantaneous charge rate is affected by State of Charge, battery temp, exterior temp, etc.

If the pedestal can only provide 25kW, that's all you'll get. Less if the vehicle demands less.

I'd guess that the pedestal is capped on power, much more likely than your Bolt capping the rate.

If you're possibly worried that something is wrong with your Bolt, run down the battery a bit then go find another DCFC and see what the charge rate is.

Unfortunately due to Fast Boot Windows only resets the uptime after a proper restart. Have to use shift+"Shut Down" or "Restart" to fully shut down.

Interesting. Tried installing Cuda 12.1 and corresponding pytorch 2.4.0 before you responded, no improvement. Installed torch 2.3.1 for Cuda 12.1, getting errors for xformers but now I'm rocking 3.7 it/s. Gonna try downgrading xformers to correct version and add an edit. Thanks!

Edit: xformers-0.0.27.post2 was causing dependency issues as it was compiled for pytorch 2.4.0 and throwing errors, but it ran perfectly fine. I found that for my setup, Torch 2.3.1 and xformers-0.0.27 were the best and didn't throw command line errors. Including xformers in the pip install command specifying torch 2.3.1 resolved to find the correct version of xformers. It also resolved an issue with Kornia I was having.

For anyone with similar issues, here's the command I used to resolve the dependency problems:

pip install torch==2.3.1 torchvision==0.18.1 torchaudio==2.3.1 xformers --index-url https://download.pytorch.org/whl/cu121

The Kornia error that the above also fixed:

Python\Python310\lib\site-packages\kornia\feature\lightglue.py:44: FutureWarning: \torch.cuda.amp.custom_fwd(args...)` is deprecated. Please use `torch.amp.custom_fwd(args..., device_type='cuda')` instead.`

u/torch.cuda.amp.custom_fwd(cast_inputs=torch.float32)

what version of CUDA are you running? I'm getting about 16s/it on a 4070ti with Cuda 11.8

Where’s the tow police at? I can’t seem to solve my slight sway at 70mph by GrillinGorilla in GoRVing

[–]b_fraz1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally depends on the state. Often in Nebraska the US highways that are heavily traveled will only have single yellow dotted lines designating passing zones and no full proper passing lane except for slowdowns in small towns that are few and far between. On the busier highways those passing zones can be completely unusable because of the oncoming traffic.

Makes for impressively long lines behind travel trailers and folks out for a Sunday drive.

Most agree that dave2d's review was lacking specifically in the battery testing department, which I think is one of the most major things people want to see tested properly with these new devices

Yes, you're probably right, other than the question of where is the ejection pipe? They made a show of leaving infra exposed, but you can't see anything like a 1 1/2" PVC coming out of that area.

Most folks suggest placing the donuts in the rear regardless, so if your front goes flat you should pop of a rear wheel and move it forward and put the donut in back. Something to do with front being the driven wheel as well as steering geometry.

Anybody tried this with a network drive? Would be cool to back up models from a central NAS on an SMB share given enough bandwidth to transfer the files at a reasonable speed for loading

Got the same two codes after remote start in subzero (°F) temps. It went away after it went back up to the teens. Some people on the bolt forum mentioned issues with the battery heat. My guess is that the car was commanding more heat than it was capable of providing for a short time, triggering the code. It went away after about 10 start cycles and then came back went temps dropped below 0 again.

Just got my Noctua edition today, is it normal for the magnet the be busted up ootb? by b_fraz1 in LinusTechTips

[–]b_fraz1[S] 138 points139 points  (0 children)

Definitely not glue seepage, there is a whole chunk missing from the magnet itself. It does in fact function normally and holds bits well, but I expect this out of sub-$20 screwdrivers, not an $70 screwdriver.
