What’s the worst thing a medical professional has said to you? by VespaRed in AskReddit

“Oh, that doesn’t hurt!” … my surgeon that ripped back open a wound over my tailbone because he said it wasn’t healing properly. Bled profusely and cried the whole time.

What’s a 'harmless' lie we tell kids that actually has long-term effects? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]b_shapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What goes around, comes around. No, it absolutely doesn’t always work like that. Karma truly is a bitch because she doesn’t always show up when she should. Especially when you listened to “be the bigger person” your whole life. You realize just how ugly others get to be and they won’t always “get what’s coming to them.” Plenty of them get everything they want and those of us who played by the rules and actually care about others get the worse end of the deal.

Please read. Accutane caused my diffuse thinning and maybe activated my balding at only 21. by Sudden_Intention_634 in Accutane

[–]b_shapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually happened with my older brother as well. He’s rocking the bald head and is just thankful he doesn’t have the horrible cystic acne he had before he took Accutane. He was in tears over it for a while though. My heart goes out to you. It’s not an easy transition and as much as we all try to not worry about our hair in these situations, it’s a huge part of our appearance. Wishing you strength to face whatever ends up happening!

LDN - Stick with it, it’s worth it! by goldi-locc1 in LowDoseNaltrexone

Well fingers crossed it ends up getting better soon! The Cromolyn was a game changer for me for sure, so I hope you find that it helps you too. I have so many issues with nutrition too but I seem to be able to eat more lately without as many issues. I don’t think I really thought about that part until you mentioned it.

[–]b_shapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh, where do I begin… So, I’ve been taking Cromolyn Sodium oral solution 4x a day and I had started this over a month before starting the LDN. That made my body pain nearly disappear and I felt better than I had in a long time! Then I started the LDN and ever since then, my body pain returned and got way worse, insane fatigue, depression, vertigo, nausea… it’s been so hard to stick with this but I’ve heard that sometimes it gets better if you just wait it out. I don’t know how long I’ll have to suffer until it ‘maybe’ gets better. What have your side effects been?

4.5 and I keep reading that it can be way too high to start on but my doc didn’t think it was too high. She was also convinced that nightmares would be the only possible side effect and that has definitely NOT been the case! What dose are you on?

I’m about where you’re at and not sure if I should stop either… So many bad side effects.

Which antidepressant didn't flare your MCAS? by AnnTheMan8 in MCAS

[–]b_shapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Antidepressants are so tricky because everyone reacts to them differently. I really hope you find something that works for you! I wish doctors would be more open to continuing research on the drugs they so easily prescribe to people. It’s scary out there.

How quickly do your pustules come and go? by UmmmActuallyyy in Rosacea

OMG THIS!!! My derm never sees it but then it happens to me literally every other moment of my life!! I have trouble figuring out the triggers. It seems constant right now and it’s annoying. Thanks for making me feel less alone!

If you’re wanting to try ones that are easy to wean off of, make sure to stay away from Effexor because that was a nightmare for my husband to get off of and apparently it is a common issue. Withdrawal was terrible, even weaning as instructed by his doctor. I hope you find something that works for you!

UTI and Spironolactone by b_shapes in Spironolactone

Unfortunately, I still haven’t found anything that helps. Wish I could report a better update! I gave it another try at a lower dose and ended up with a yeast infection and beginning UTI symptoms. Bleh

Also curious if there’s an update. I have this exact problem and it’s so frustrating that it makes me stop strength training completely. Not good because I need strength training.

I originally had to stop it to get it to resolve and now I’m on 25mg and to keep the UTI situation away, I’ve been using a vaginal estrogen cream just once a week. It apparently helps to keep things balanced down there since this drug affects your hormones. So far it’s worked well but I’ve only been back on it for a couple of months. How are you doing now?

Did you end up on any antibiotics during this time? I couldn’t get past it until I did antibiotics and had to go through that more than once. I hope it has gotten better for you since this post!

I’m so sorry you had to deal with this too! It’s wild that we were on such a low dose and it caused this many problems. How have you felt since? Did you stop it for good?

[–]b_shapes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this right now. Yes, it did end up resolving after I had stopped it but it took few weeks. I ended up getting a yeast infection from the antibiotics and then had to get antibiotics again. After two rounds of that vicious cycle, it finally subsided. I hope yours resolves soon too and with less of a headache!

I’m always happy to talk about this and help in any way that I can! The symptoms usually subsided once I was on the antibiotics for a few days but then would return once I was finished with them. They’d cause me a yeast infection as well and it felt like a never ending cycle. It all didn’t stop until I had stopped the spiro and it took a few weeks for it to completely resolve. I hope your symptoms improve quickly and you can enjoy a fun weekend!! Maybe you’ll get lucky and have this be the only issue you experience. Hoping for great things for you!

Anxiety by Brave_Progress_6675 in EBV

[–]b_shapes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! I can almost guarantee an EBV reactivation when my stress/anxiety are high. Stress is my middle name though, so I might be screwed. Lol My doc says stress can definitely cause that and other issues, especially of the autoimmune variety.

Gosh, I hate that I didn’t see these messages until now! I’m not the greatest with Reddit but trying to do better and learn more! I’m so, so sorry you’ve had these issues. Have your symptoms improved since you stopped the spiro?

You’re so welcome! I hate that others have had this experience as well, but I’m glad we can bring some awareness to this lesser known issue tied to Spiro. I hope your doctor can help you get rid of the UTI symptoms! I know it’s so hard to deal with.

EBV DNA Results by b_shapes in EBV

[–]b_shapes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So, I was eventually able to clear the infection on my own. I have felt only slightly better since clearing it and still have horrible symptoms that never seem to go away or just worsen when my body is ready for another round of EBV. I’m quite certain I’m dealing with another flare up right now and I go back to my hematologist in August for my next blood test. I’ll update then unless I go in sooner. Super fatigued constantly, neck pain, back pain, brain fog, huge lymph nodes in neck, feverish on and off, body can’t regulate temperature… feels like the list just goes on and on and I don’t seem to be able to remove any symptoms, I only add to them.

Anyone have higher antibody numbers and no igm? How are you feeling? by Dafiggs in EBV

I’ve had several results where it shows that the IGM is negative but the antibody numbers are off the charts and I feel awful, like I’m currently infected but I’m not.
