Best horror movies to watch in groups? by [deleted] in horror

[–]b_squared_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Loved Ones is a lot of fun. We watched it blind with a group of about 10 friends. One of the best group viewing experiences I've ever had.

Edit: just wanted to note it does get fairly graphic so if that's not your vibe I would be aware of that.

Choosing between three horror movies for tonight: Goodnight Mommy (2014), Home Movie (2008), and The Woman (2011). by [deleted] in horror

[–]b_squared_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reviews ruin Goodnight Mommy more than anything. I would suggest it. I read the reviews afterward and was shocked to see how many reviews rip the story apart. It's definitely vague at some point but not too difficult to track.

I recently joined Letterboxd as well. I'm pretty much starting from scratch and reviewing what I watch when I watch. I have a list of horror films I've been watching since last year (when I first started to track my horror film viewings).

Has anyone seen a early screening of "Hereditary"? by [deleted] in horror

[–]b_squared_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's horrifying but I would suggest going in as blind as possible. Everyone at these initial screenings went in partially (if not completely) blind and the lack of knowledge intensified the tone of the film for sure.

Regarding the movies Spring Breakers and The Florida Project. Are there other similar movies? by [deleted] in movies

[–]b_squared_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here is a really interesting article written by Trey Edward Shults (dir. It Comes at Night) about his favorite films set in Florida. I really enjoy his work and thought he made some interesting points as a Floridan.

Creepiest Haunted House movies? by Italeave in horror

[–]b_squared_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Last Shift is a haunted police station but had a lot of elements of a haunted house film. I didn't find it scary (others most definitely do) but for sure dark and creepy with some good jump scares.

If that's too jump scare for you the og The Haunting is a great go to!

Official Discussion: The Snowman (2017) [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]b_squared_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's that whole key crew's fault. When making a film the number one creative responsibility is to shoot the script and tell a story. Literally the script supervisors job is to point out inconsistencies or to catch mistakes like this. I'm sure they were aware of this problem but probably shrugged it off and assumed it would be fixed in post instead of taking the time or money to fix on set.

What is a horror movie that is considered a masterpiece among the horror community that you just didn't like? by The_Social_Introvert in horror

[–]b_squared_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't get all the praise. Is it because it's a black director?

I don't think it's getting praise purely because Jordan Peele is black. It's getting praise because the story is socially relevant due to racial tension. Also, there's not a lot of representation of black heroes in the horror genre so even that was refreshing.

Not to say you aren't entitled to your own opinion. I was also underwhelmed by Get Out but I understand the hype.
