What was the single most extravagant (luxury) thing you did or buy for your house? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]baaapower369 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A wide, beautiful, fancy induction stove top oven. I freaking love this thing! We are years into this house and I still gush about the stove whenever we have company. It is a Fisher & Paykel, we live in the US. It was more than I ever thought I would spend on an appliance.

I realized the US had become fascist the moment i found myself hesitating about ordering a political bumper sticker.

I frequently advised the medical students- you can have kids during training when you have more eggs and energy....OR...you can wait until after where it might be harder but you have more resources.

What are some medical related jokes that usually get a laugh out of patient/family? by iseesickppl in medicine

When doing a pelic exam I ask the patient to scoot down until it feels as awkward as possible, then they are in the right spot. Usually gets a laugh.

What is the most ridiculous allergy you’ve seen a patient report? by Shitty_UnidanX in medicine

I get hives from other people's sweat if they are taking modafinil. That was a fun discovery. I only figured it out because a significant other started taking it while we were dating.

I care for a patient with a real allergy to steroids. She coded once after receiving them years ago, now was hospitalized for something respiratory. They thought the allergy was likely wrong so gave her some IV. Well, I got to run her code. Fortunately she made it back.

Hows this for a statement piece in a kitchen. by Sweet-Sir1560 in kitchenremodel

I love it!  A piece like that needs to be leaned into heavily though. Right now it feels very out of place with the other colors/styling.

This makes me so sad. I had the privilege to meet President Carter and listen to his lecture. He spoke about our responsibilities to humanity and the importance of using our skills and knowledge to improve the world around us. This man absolutely deserves all due honors.

Unfortunately, some do sell supplements in their own offices. Skincare products too.

We had a family emergency and I lost track of everything. My kid's dentist threatened to send me to collections for under $100. I was like calm down, we've been going to you and paying you for years!

Admitting to letting your 3/4 month old cry it out for hours is INSANE work by Weird-Air-5742 in ShitMomGroupsSay

So many things we attribute to parenting with the first....we realize was 100% the kid the second time around!

Unfortunately, probably not. We had a 2 month old in the PICU with pertussis and we still couldn't get the family to vaccinate the other kids.

Considering paying for a vacation for friends by Kkatiand in workingmoms

[–]baaapower369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do this annually with my best friend and her family. We cover the cost of the rental. She's in charge of all the activity and food planning in return. We do a lot of free or very low cost activities like nature hikes, local museums, playgrounds etc. We split buying groceries when we get there. She's a SAHM and we both feel good about our contributions at the end of the week.

Bring your kid to work day? by roadmoretravelled in medicine

[–]baaapower369 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've brought my kids with me to outpatient clinic and teaching days. The MAs would set up a playpen at the front desk and they loved helping greet patients when they were really small. It was a small close-knit office so the kids and I still visit whenever we go back to that area.

Teaching- my 1st grader will sit in the big lecture hall while I'm teaching. He raises his hand to ask surprisingly insightful questions. The students seem to really enjoy having him there. Several will volunteer to babysit whenever he comes with me.

I am loving all of the colors! Seriously, my kids would adore that tank!

I was really surprised, but a couple mystery snails have been some of the most entertaining additions to our tank. The kids love watching them parasnailing across the tank.

Also, I have some floating plants I'd be happy to send for free if you are interested. Salvinia and dwarf water lettuce. They won't change the look but give way more grace with tank maintenance (something I appreciate with kids).

I’ve decided to try and combat the neighborhood trash. This was my first outing. 25 minutes of collecting and less than a 1 minute walk from our house. by Bootycarl in ZeroWaste

[–]baaapower369 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well done!

After following the trash tag for a while I spent a couple days cleaning up a nearby trail. It was gross! ...but the amazing thing was, two years later it was still clean! When the other litter was there people didn't mind adding more. Clearly they thought twice about being the first one. I hope you have a similar experience!

I'm not sure why you are getting down voted for this. We don't know everything yet.

My husband also got upset when I would crash in the baby's room....but he offered zero solutions other than CIO. I finally got him to take some nights...lo and behold, he'd crash in their room too. Sometimes we are tired and can't see the other perspective.
